Brad Gresock, Don't you pay any attention to the negative comments....they wish they could be doing what you are doing...they probably flipping burgers somewhere...you inspire some of the youth to do creative thing with their spare time.... by the way... thank you.
that’s dope brother I’ve always wanted to start my own wood bat company. I’m finally making the money I need to in order to get it started & this video helped me out a lot. cheers brotha good work!
Man that was great! I'm a guitar maker so have plenty of maple and ash about - looks like I'm going to make a bat next. One tip brad get a branding iron made up and put your mark on the knob end it'll look really pro.
Just a tip for anyone working on a lathe, do NOT wear long sleeves. I have personally seen someone get their sleeve caught in one cause they accidently got to close an it left a pretty bad gash on his arm. Sadly although he was injured he was lucky it wasn't worse.
It's great to see a guy woodturning at such a young age as well as making practical items. However, I'm amazed to see you still alive seeing the dangerous angle at which you are holding the roughing out gouge! By the way, my first lathe I had was the same one (by the look of it). I bought it in the early 1990's and it was already second hand then! But I suspect yours is an American-made lathe and I know mine was a cheap Chinese copy. But it served me well for 10+ years and it's still turning out projects at the home of a pal to whom I eventually gave it. Nice bat collection though. Kudos and a "like" from me (notwithstanding the awful chisel angle!!).
François Wognum we r factory of cnc lathe , any inquiry ,pls feel free contact me skype anna886691 or whatsapp008615966606596 we are sure you are very satisfired
Totally agree with the tool angle, that is dangerous bro. Look up some pros and see how they hold their tools, cuz u goin to get killed holdin a tool like that son
Have you tried any other wood types, I am making one for my grandson, and he is only 5 years old, so I want it very light, and obviously he isn't going to be breaking bats yet, so I was thinking of light woods like red cedar or something equally attractive but mostly light in weight.
Love this video. I know its a bit old..but wondering if you could recommend an inexpensive lathe to get started on. Or any specs. Going to look on Ebay
How would you flare the hand of your bat? Most wooden bats have flare just after the knob on the handle. Would you also be able to round the end of the knob of the bat? Just asking cause I am doing a similar project to this and I would like to include these features.
I'm guessing it is just for fun because little leagues, high schools, and colleges all require certain specs to use a bat. You can just bring a bat you made because it isn't labeled by a manufacturer to say it is up to spec. He may however just play pickup games with friends.
As long as it is a wooden bat and doesn't go over maximum sizes you can make your own bats. Composite and aluminum bats are the ones with all the restrictions.
Hey Luke, can not be sure but his lathe looks similar to a older Craftsman tube lathe. You can look on Craigslist (may take a few months) but you can find something close. $75-$150. Cutting tools included is a good deal. Just my 2¢.
Hey do you know how to make a baseball? Cuz I want make my own baseball because I just don't want to spend money when I could use it for something else!
I heard he will pusblish it online soon, so you might want to grab Hyezmar's Woodworking Bible. Even though it's not 100% complete it has some great plans and ideas.
Hey bro my name is Brian from Boston Massachusetts I have been looking for somebody that would be able to make me a bat that actually is solid and the handcraft is awesome and very good that could also ship it to me in Boston whether you can take down my information and how heavy or light I want it and if you could make me one providing that I make a video trying the bat out or if you want to charge me for it I will pay you for it is there some way that I could get in touch with you by email I would like to hear from you thank Brian

Damn that sucks! Great advice buddy for real.

Good video, I suggest you round the top tip of the barrel because if the ball makes contact there it could be dnagerous
Very nice work Brad.
Really it’s amazing once I grow up I want to be a baseball maker

Well made video! Well explained!
That's really cool, I'm looking for a lathe now
Really cool. Good job!
Awesome job man
Awsome man, really!!!
The center in the lathe head is the DRIVE CENTER not the live center. The live center would be located in the tail stock.
awsome video!
You rock Brad

that is really cool . you should make a video on how to paint them. you should sell them you would get a lot of money!!!!!!!
You don't shape the end to round it off? By doing so would allow you to reduce bat weight thus giving you more bat speed.
Looks like a fungo but a short ass one
Great Job Brad. lets. see a video on Turn of The Century Bats. I'm.. sure you can do it. Keep up the good work. jeff
Awesome
cool video!!!
Good job

Cashe Newans you would use a screwed chisel tool, practice first on some smaller wood pieces, from my experience it is a little difficult
Are you selling them yet?
Have you made profit selling or just do it for fun? The equipment must be expensive - also do you use your bats during your own games? +Brad Gresock
Also how much did the lathe cost - I'm finding them for just under $500

hi brad but my wooden bat broke and it got a huge crack in it can i fix it or do i have to get a new bat
Wooden bats come and go. It's a fact of life. When they break you buy a new one or make a new one, like he does.
