i did this mod the other day and it worked great, Thank for the video. I bought the ZIPPY 1000mAh 3S 11.1 25-35C LIPO BATTERY and it last's well over an hour.
Thanks. Very useful information. You went into just enough detail for me to decide to buy the grip and modify it for the LIPo -and to work with the CGO3+. The CGO3+ is another project but a relatively simple one if you are going to disassemble the steadygrip anyway.
The link to Amazon is for "uxcell 2 Pcs RC Model Servo Y Extension Cord Cable Wire Extend Lead 50cm". The one in your video doesn't look like a Y extension. Just want to make sure I get the right one. Great video by the way!
Great video, I just ordered the parts from Amazon, you say you use the the Yuneec Q500 battery charger, does the charger auto shut off when the battery is full or ???
Now by upgrading will this solve the issue of losing video while recording, I think I heard it has to be enough continuous power to keep video transmitting to tablet etc.
Any chance you can post another battery link to one that is available on Amazon? That one isn't available anymore it looks like. Thanks for the great video!
Sorry I live in Hawaii and think I may have found a few battery options locally, can't get it shipped here anyways...is there anything I should be making sure this battery doesn't do so I don't mess up the Steadygrip? Thanks!
GREAT VIDEO!!!! I just bought this device but i do not see the battery anywhere! I scrolled and read all the comments and checked the links but didnt see anything! Can you please help me in finding the battery!?!?
Thanks for idea on the Lipo battery. One question. Originally the unit needed 8 x 1.2 NiMH volt batteries = 9.6volt. The Lipo is 11.1 volt. I am guessing that isn't the issue? If you were to use normal AA batteries at 1.5v =12 volt It wouldn't be an issue although I was told specifically to not use these as it would fry the unit? Any ideas? thanks again.
hi - thats what i was wondering - i am considering 3d printing a modification to the steadycam battery compartment to allow a q500 battery to slide in.
There's no point in having great audio on a drone camera because all you hear is wind and prop noise anyway. My DJI Mavic camera can't even record sound.
Can you repost the link for the LiPo battery? I found a few on amazon and ebay but the connector seems to be different from the one is this video. Thanks!
hello, i have the same steady grip, but my camera is CGO 3+ type, if i have upgraded Lipo battery like your video, will my camera (CGO 3+) work? if anyone has the same problem with me, please give me the solution. thank you. thank you
Blinkit Photography The MAH capacity or C rating does not matter. I decided on this particular battery because it fit into the handle. If this isn't important to you then any 3S battery will work.
ah ok,i've got the typhoon h pro,it only has the main battery port and a usb charging point, yours may be different,i've not seen the Q500 charger,i'll have to go find something to fit it i'm guessing, but thanks for the reply :)

Thanks for the video! I'm surprised not many people have watched your modification tutorial? Seriously, it's brilliant. Using a LiPo battery makes sense then having the limitations of NiMH rechargeable usage time. Quick Questions. 01. You mention in your comments we can use the Q500+ battery charger with this 3S 11.1V 2200mAh 8C Lipo Battery, is this correct? Nice that we don't have to buy another battery charger. 02. The link to the RC Model Servo Y Extension Wire says it's no longer available. I looked up on Amazon for another vendor selling the Servo Y extension and found one. However, is there ANYTHING we should be aware of before ordering? here's the one I found (amzn.com/B01IB99IYA) please let us know if this is the same one. 03. I haven't heard of this battery brand (Floureon), is it common in the RC community? 04. You mentioned in your comments the LiPo battery usage charge will last close to 1.5 hours, is this correct? WOW, that's great!
I published this video just two weeks ago, so maybe it will get more views in the future. To answer your questions: 1) Yes, I use the Yuneec Q500 battery charger to charge the Floureon battery. Just plug the balance lead (the white plug on the battery) into the Yuneec charger. No problems whatsoever. 2) RC servo connectors are pretty much all the same, so no worries. 3) I wouldn't be too concerned about the Floureon brand. Most LiPo batteries are also the same with different branding. The Steadygrip is not a mission critical item, so I'm not too picky about what batteries I put in it because a battery failure is not going to be catastrophic. 4) Yes, I got 1.5 hours of use on one LiPo battery. I knew it was time to change batteries when the gimbal began to seize up and the controls became unresponsive. Even when the Steadygrip stopped working, the battery charge wasn't at very low levels, so I didn't find the use of a battery monitor to be necessary.

Big question I have is; Why did Yuneec even think of marketing this without a LiPo in the first place?
Nad Ragaw don't know. It seems like a silly oversight.
Great work! i've just ordered the parts. Thanks for this. Saved me a lot of hassle changing and charging batteries. Subscribed!
Glad to be of help. I have found that since doing the mod, I have been using the Steadygrip at lot more than before.
The link to Amazon is for "uxcell 2 Pcs RC Model Servo Y Extension Cord Cable Wire Extend Lead 50cm". The one in your video doesn't look like a Y extension. Just want to make sure I get the right one. Great video by the way!
Super Simple and works great!! Easiest Mod ever
Graet Video my friend, absolutely simple and to the point, easy to understand for us amateurs. Many thanks, you got your self another subscriber...
Thank you , your video is detailed and easy to follow. Thanks a lot.
Glad it helps.
Another cool thing is that you can charge the Steady Grip LiPo battery with the Yuneec charger.
Khoa Nuyen how? What part of the yuneec charger
Davonte Stewart the balance plug that you use to charge the Yuneec flight batteries. Plug the Steady grip LIPO battery's balance plug there.
Skyview Productions my charger gives me an error when i conect the battery
very helpful video,thanks Skyview Productions
The LiPo battery should be 3S.

Many thanks for this great video... One question: must the Lipo battery be "3S"? I found one without this spec.... Just 11,1V 2200 mah 8C...
Thank you! This works really well.
I just watched your video about putting lipo battery in steady grip. can you send me specs for battery - links don't work
Great video, I just ordered the parts from Amazon, you say you use the the Yuneec Q500 battery charger, does the charger auto shut off when the battery is full or ???
Yes, the Yuneec charger stops charging when the battery is full.

Do you have an update as to where you can find a battery for the steady grip? It seems the brand you suggested is no longer made. Thanks
Any chance you can post another battery link to one that is available on Amazon? That one isn't available anymore it looks like. Thanks for the great video!

what is the final voltage of the Lipo when the gimbal runs out of power and turns itself off ? Do I need a beeper or BMS or will it stop above 9v ?
Thanks for idea on the Lipo battery. One question. Originally the unit needed 8 x 1.2 NiMH volt batteries = 9.6volt. The Lipo is 11.1 volt. I am guessing that isn't the issue?

thanks again.
I use the 11.1V LiPo battery without reducing the voltage without any issue. I have also used 1.5V alkaline batteries without any issue.
ok great, I'll give it a go.
Woooouu. that's all or did something else before? Thanks a lot
That's all I did
SkyView SanDiego thanks
HI , can you tell us the specs of battery you use, link to amazon does not seem to work, thanks again for a great helping video
amzn.to/2edzx2H
This battery has similar specs.
thank you so much for your feedback, much appreciated
Can I use one of the originals q500 battery for this modification? Thanks 👍🏼
hi - thats what i was wondering - i am considering 3d printing a modification to the steadycam battery compartment to allow a q500 battery to slide in.
Off topic question...when you use the steadycam what is the audio source, is it the camera, or the phone. my audio on the cgo3 is horrible?
TheDBCooperforum I record audio using both. The CG03 is a drone camera so yeah the audio is awful.
Okay, thanks. was starting to worry I had something wrong...I haven't even used the steadygrip yet...
There's no point in having great audio on a drone camera because all you hear is wind and prop noise anyway. My DJI Mavic camera can't even record sound.
a B.e.c battery elemator circuit would help regulate voltage to study grip,.
Thank you. It works! Nothing fried :-)
How do you charge the akku, when it is in the steady grip?
please send where battery and wires, and charger ......thank you great idea
Can you repost the link for the LiPo battery? I found a few on amazon and ebay but the connector seems to be different from the one is this video. Thanks!

+Khoa Nuyen Thank you!
This battery doesn't seem to be available anymore. Is there another battery that will work?
Thanks for sharing, please send me link on battery and plug as the link does not work. Thanks again!
hello, i have the same steady grip, but my camera is CGO 3+ type, if i have upgraded Lipo battery like your video, will my camera (CGO 3+) work? if anyone has the same problem with me, please give me the solution. thank you. thank you
you can also use the batteries from the copter if you buy the right cable, why didnt you do it like that ?
Lars M I wanted the battery to fit inside the handle. A mod with a battery attached outside looks goofy.
Ok that makes sense
Does it have to be a 1100mah 8C lipo I have a couple of 11.1v 3s 25c 2700
Blinkit Photography The MAH capacity or C rating does not matter. I decided on this particular battery because it fit into the handle. If this isn't important to you then any 3S battery will work.
I ordered the battery in the first link and the gimbal powers up but slants to one side. Any suggestions?
Todd Larson I doubt the slant has anything to do with the battery. The gimbal is probably not calibrated properly.
I understand you can shoot in 4K on steady grip, but with CGO app the resolution setting only goes to 720p. Why is that?
Joey Kuciauskas not true. the CGO app allows for 4K filming.
My apologies. I mean the "RTSP Resolution" setting. Link: file:///Users/user/Desktop/IMG_3524.PNG
Where can I get a charger for this battery
Could not find this battery. No longer available.
Aren't you using a low voltage indicator with your set up?! I looked at the video to see which one you are using and don't see a mention of one..
I did not use a low voltage indicator because when the battery drops to about 3.3V per cell, the gimbal seizes up and no longer works.
Ah right I didn't know that. I ordered one just in case, cheers for Reply.
dude how do you charge the lipo battery???
great vid,can you link the charger for this as we've got the pack on the way but don't know what charger it uses, thanks
I used the Yuneec Q500 charger. Just plug the 4-wire plug on the battery into the Yuneec charger and it will balance charge for you.
you're a star,thanks my friend :)
ah ok,i've got the typhoon h pro,it only has the main battery port and a usb charging point, yours may be different,i've not seen the Q500 charger,i'll have to go find something to fit it i'm guessing, but thanks for the reply :)
where to buy battery..?
how do you charge this Mod
I can't get my steady grip to stay connected.
I noticed the link for the battery is no longer working. This battery has the same spec: amzn.to/2edzx2H
Hi Can this modification harm the ddevice in any way? Because it says nimh batteries only?
oldschoolrock4evr it won't harm the gimbal despite the warning. Been using the LIPO mode for over 7 months without problems.
it's also been discontinued...
There are several links in the description. One should work...

Can you charge this Lipo battery on the Yuneec battery charger?
Yes.
Cool, thank you. Plan on doing this mod....looks great and I love the 1.20 hr run time!
I tried to get the battery to charge with the yuneec charger but it just says error? any ideas or did yours say error while charging?
I haven't made the mod just yet.
Great! ;)
What battery was used? Link does not Work for Amazon

Poor camera is bunching around during all of this.
