And alimony that comes from his pension.. so basically she got nearly all his pension. A tragedy at 80 yrs of age... I made that fatal mistake in getting married. My first marriage, her second. She got the house and kids off her first hubby after the divorce and she always belittled the kid's father in front of them. This should have been a major wake-up call for me, but I loved her deeply. After we married she confessed to cheating on her first husband, who is a good hard working guy. That was it then, I distanced myself from her and next argument I blurted it out that I wouldn't have married her if I knew she had cheated on her first husband, because people don't change. Not long after that she started an affair. Suprise surprise. We are now separated and I have far more money, social freedom and three cars. People are now seeing marriage as some kind of milestone they need to cross or society or family simply says they need to do. They are not looking to find the right partner for them. If you don't love someone to that point where you can't see yourself giving up your player lifestyle, then you shouldn't be married. Your wages are stripped to pay for children that are no longer yours. If the ex-wife hates you enough she can use the court system in all sorts of ways to turn your life into a living hell. He doesn't want to get married, so I have to respect that. If that is what it takes for him to be in my life for a very long time, I just have to accept it. It is something that I really need to get over, but one main fear I have with women is the power they can have over me with just a simple act. Today's my 57th birthday!!! Recently retired with FULL pension, never married, no kids/grandkids, driving my RV across the country. Leaving for Montréal next week and headed for Munich for Oktoberfest in a couple months! I love females, I really do - they are my 'sexual preference'. But I just never found "The One" that I just couldn't live without or trust. Sex drive has dipped and that's just fine with me. Congrats man! I retired from the military at age 43 and at 49 I sold my home I had a mortgage on and used the equity to buy a home outright where the real estate was cheaper in a small town. Now I am 100 percent retired now that I don't have a mortgage and I am saving for an Airstream. I also never married and have no kids. Life is good.

Sad but true. I was married for 20yrs. and would never fall into that trap again. I'm not bitter, however, I feel like I got a second chance at life. I love being single. I would get home from a week on the road, and the first thing out of her mouth was how long I would be. $15,000 to an attorney and in less than 6 weeks I was in front of a judge getting the papers signed. I was FREE! I gave her everything, took my tools and stereo equipment and have not looked back. No regrets, other than the wasted years.
It's only crazy if you think that the court or the state cares about the welfare of the child. The judge doesn't care about the child. The states get money from the federal government when they enforce child support. They actually take money out of the Social Security general fund and transfer it to the state. It's a huge racket. 1) If a man is providing and yet his wife divorces him he's financially ruined. 2) If the man stops providing his wife can divorce him and he's financially ruined. 3) If the wife stops performing her duties she can divorce her husband and he's financially ruined. 4) If the wife divorces for any random reason the husband is financially ruined. There is no logical reason for many men to marry giving the above scenarios.

of course, I understand that as a woman you want to be loyal to your man, but for all the guys out there who actually do want to marry, there are also restrictions for marriage that count to them. They can't just go out and get married. They have to be physically attractive to the girl. They need to be financially stable to raise a family. And the reward they get in return is just not that valuable anymore. At least these days.

I love how friends, family members and complete strangers are always telling you that you haven't found the right woman. There is no "right" woman. Married men give up and just settle. I refuse to just settle.
For the money part. You can avoid paying for the ceremony if both you and your wife agree to just not have one. That's the smart thing to do. If you don't pay for a ceremony you can use that money for anything else.

Well, I am almost 62 years old, never married, any children! You need the first the have the latter! I pretty much opted out while I was in my first years of College, It just was a big waste of time and money, I when to flight school instead, been flying for money for almost 42 years now! I do mostly contract work- so I have plenty of time for things I like to do, fly fishing and big game hunting! My last girlfriend didn't think I should do either once we marry, I overheard the conversation with the mom at the Usual Sunday dinner! I didn't say a word, other than when I left I called a friend of mine to see if there was still a room for me on a late season Elk hunt, yep and I was in the car and on my way to Colorado within an hour! Came back in time for some medical treatment that I needed! That was 21 years ago! I never said another word to her since then! Men will put up with a lot, the one thing that I will not put up with is being told that the thinks I like have no value and that I should just stop! She didn't like the flying much either! So I have my hunting, fishing and flying and all my stuff too!

Hit the nail on the head! As a 40y/o male, well educated, established, no children, six figure income, and takes care of himself. I often find myself being considered a catch by my female friends. Problem is, I've only found the women to reduce my quality of life. Constant nagging, lost freedom, couples obligations, compromising more than I normally would, unnecessary expenses, and always feeling exhausted trying to keep up with my needs and theirs. I finally hit a point in my life where I had to ask myself, why do I keep doing this? Especially when I could lose everything. Custody should always be JOINT, children live with each parent 50% of the time so child support would be unnecessary. Support your children WHEN they are living with you but not when they are living with someone else.

Joe Fishy Well, in countries with Christian heritage, marriage is the foundation for raising children. But at some point it just became social norm whether you wanted kids or not. IMO, marriage is an outdated social convention.
Most non-christian nations also have a form of marriage, for example India and hinduism, before the British empire. It's strange that humanity has a natural tendency to believe in a higher power, but it's not strange that we link these beliefs with love. Humans are wired to find an ideal partner for life, have sex and raise children, which is why across all cultures (as far as I know) we condemn adultery and unfaithfulness, because they aren't beneficial to our species as a whole. However now society encourages and glorifies the single life and it has caused a lot of problems which weren't as bad as in the past (for example teen pregnancies, single parents, men who live in their mom's basement etc.). My point is that though marriage may be an outdated concept, IMO, we should still be trying to encourage faithfulness and creating a stable home for children with two parents (studies show their sexuality has no real effect) and if not for religious reasons, at least legal and financial reasons keep the tradition of marriage and give it incentives.
Having been married i'll never do it again. My ex turned from a caring compassionate partner to a nagging condescending bitch soon after I put a ring on her finger. Nothing I did was good enough, nothing I said was right. If I worked 20 hrs of overtime that week she would bitch at me that I didn't work 30 hrs and that I never spent enough time with her. If I bought her something nice for her birthday or Christmas it wasn't good enough because it wasn't as expensive as she wanted it to be, but bitched and complained that I didn't make enough money. When it came to housework/yard work/cleaning she expected me to do everything while she slept in till noon. So I go through a divorce, lost almost everything and came damn close to killing myself because of it. Oh and the best part is no woman will want to be with you because if you're divorced you're labelled a loser and failure while my ex is off doing whatever she wants. Every guy I know whose been married has gone through or going through the same shit. It's not worth it.

When I was in law school in the 80's I had moved from Florida to Boston to go to school. I remember having a feminist professor who taught the class that statistically men come out far ahead financially in divorce over women. If I recall she said men come out 20 percent wealthier. Ha! She honestly believed that. Seeing such an angry woman was a culture shock for me coming from Florida. Believe it or not, she was married to a MAN (It was the 80's however) I later divorced in my early 40s and it took me years to have anything. I left with nothing. Gave her the house, her 401K. My choice, so I can't complain but I did struggle for years. Both of my sons are now married. Neither wife cooks at all. One is home all day with the children and after my son has worked all day they go out to eat basically every night because, after all, she has taken care of the kids all day. I am a divorce lawyer and I can tell you that the young men who do get married who are in my office complain that they are expected to do everything but they are not allowed to have any expectations of their wives. Women today absolutely do not cook-none of them- and if you are really lucky the MIGHT clean. One positive note which is a result of the cultural changes is that most men are very involved with their children, even when born out of wedlock. OF course there is no shortage of women who try to run them off so they can be the single mother with the deadbeat dad. Its funny within certain nameless communities women actually seem to want that particular status. Last fun fact. Women rarely pay child support. First, they are rarely asked to pay anything if the man has custody. Most men say, "I don't want anything from her." Second, the women usually immediately have another kid having lost one to a father, and of course you can't put a mother in jail for non-support when she has a child at home.

Being 50, I've been divorced for 8 years after being married for 10 years. I will NEVER marry again. The idea that men are now lazy and immature is absolutely ridiculous at best. Men are realizing that there's absolutely nothing todays woman brings to the table except for a pussy they will no longer get to see once they put a ring on her finger. As for being responsible, I own my home (no more payments), own my car (no more payments) and just bought a nice truck with a huge down payment, along with being debt free. I have a steady job and have free time to do as I please. I can go eat at a restaurant or fix something myself along with wash my own clothes and house choirs. I have the ability to do carpentry, plumbing, electrical, car repairs, cook, bake, clean, built 4 monster PC's in the past 8 years, etc., etc., etc. So what does a woman bring to the table for ME??????? Since most women can't cook, just get fat, complain about every fucking thing they can think of, try to control you and the money, along with almost bankrupting your ass. Then in a divorce you get raped up the ass financially because the court system is so corrupt and one sided it isn't funny......I think I'll stay single thank you very much.

He told his wife up front that what he wanted was a stay at home wife to run the house and take care of the children - period. He makes VERY good money on Wall Street (about $400,000/yr.), and puts 20% of his take home into an account for her. They have a prenup that says that money is all she gets if they divorce, other than child support. That's still a great deal for her, because they pay all their household expenses from his money, and she only has to touch hers for luxury items that she might want. So, she basically gets $80,000/yr. plus free food, housing, healthcare, and utilities for doing the job of running the house. His expectation? After working long hours everyday, he is DONE when he gets home. He expects a clean house, healthy kids, and a hot meal, and no bitching. When she did start complaining about him not helping enough around the house, driving the kids around, etc., he offered to cut her salary to $30,000 and split chores with her!

Bingo! I have been single for 15 years and I love it. When I was married I lived paycheck to paycheck no matter how much money I made. Once I got a divorce, I had too much money and had to open my first bank account. My life became less stressful due to lack of drama and worrying about how I am going to pay my rent and car payment and keep my woman happy. Now I can just pay cash for whatever I want. The women are everywhere and dating is fun. What is the point of marriage other than putting too many restrictions and responsibilities on one person? Marriage doesnt even feel natural. It is something that I really need to get over, but one main fear I have with women is the power they can have over me with just a simple act. She can physically and emotionally assault me, but the instant I raise my arms to defend myself, she will go into a state of victim-hood and cry crocodile tears to gain sympathy. The states get money from the federal government when they enforce child support. They actually take money out of the Social Security general fund and transfer it to the state. It's a huge racket. Well, I am almost 62 years old, never married, any children! You need the first the have the latter! I pretty much opted out while I was in my first years of College, It just was a big waste of time and money, I when to flight school instead, been flying for money for almost 42 years now! I do mostly contract work- so I have plenty of time for things I like to do, fly fishing and big game hunting! My last girlfriend didn't think I should do either once we marry, I overheard the conversation with the mom at the Usual Sunday dinner! I didn't say a word, other than when I left I called a friend of mine to see if there was still a room for me on a late season Elk hunt, yep and I was in the car and on my way to Colorado within an hour! Came back in time for some medical treatment that I needed! That was 21 years ago! I never said another word to her since then! Men will put up with a lot, the one thing that I will not put up with is being told that the thinks I like have no value and that I should just stop! She didn't like the flying much either! So I have my hunting, fishing and flying and all my stuff too!

Hit the nail on the head! As a 40y/o male, well educated, established, no children, six figure income, and takes care of himself. I often find myself being considered a catch by my female friends. Problem is, I've only found the women to reduce my quality of life. Constant nagging, lost freedom, couples obligations, compromising more than I normally would, unnecessary expenses, and always feeling exhausted trying to keep up with my needs and theirs. Well, in countries with Christian heritage, marriage is the foundation for raising children. But at some point it just became social norm whether you wanted kids or not. IMO, marriage is an outdated social convention.
Most non-christian nations also have a form of marriage, for example India and hinduism, before the British empire. It's strange that humanity has a natural tendency to believe in a higher power, but it's not strange that we link these beliefs with love. Humans are wired to find an ideal partner for life, have sex and raise children, which is why across all cultures (as far as I know) we condemn adultery and unfaithfulness, because they aren't beneficial to our species as a whole. However now society encourages and glorifies the single life and it has caused a lot of problems which weren't as bad as in the past (for example teen pregnancies, single parents, men who live in their mom's basement etc.). My point is that though marriage may be an outdated concept, IMO, we should still be trying to encourage faithfulness and creating a stable home for children with two parents (studies show their sexuality has no real effect) and if not for religious reasons, at least legal and financial reasons keep the tradition of marriage and give it incentives.

Having been married i'll never do it again. My ex turned from a caring compassionate partner to a nagging condescending bitch soon after I put a ring on her finger. Nothing I did was good enough, nothing I said was right. If I worked 20 hrs of overtime that week she would bitch at me that I didn't work 30 hrs and that I never spent enough time with her. If I bought her something nice for her birthday or Christmas it wasn't good enough because it wasn't as expensive as she wanted it to be, but bitched and complained that I didn't make enough money. When it came to housework/yard work/cleaning she expected me to do everything while she slept in till noon.

When I was in law school in the 80's I had moved from Florida to Boston to go to school. I remember having a feminist professor who taught the class that statistically men come out far ahead financially in divorce over women. If I recall she said men come out 20 percent wealthier. Ha! She honestly believed that. Seeing such an angry woman was a culture shock for me coming from Florida. Believe it or not, she was married to a MAN (It was the 80's however) I later divorced in my early 40s and it took me years to have anything. I left with nothing. Gave her the house, her 401K. My choice, so I can't complain but I did struggle for years.
Both of my sons are now married. Neither wife cooks at all. One is home all day with the children and after my son has worked all day they go out to eat basically every night because, after all, she has taken care of the kids all day.
I am a divorce lawyer and I can tell you that the young men who do get married who are in my office complain that they are expected to do everything but they are not allowed to have any expectations of their wives. Women today absolutely do not cook-none of them- and if you are really lucky the MIGHT clean. One positive note which is a result of the cultural changes is that most men are very involved with their children, even when born out of wedlock. OF course there is no shortage of women who try to run them off so they can be the single mother with the deadbeat dad. Its funny within certain nameless communities women actually seem to want that particular status. Last fun fact. Women rarely pay child support. First, they are rarely asked to pay anything if the man has custody. Most men say, "I don't want anything from her." Second, the women usually immediately have another kid having lost one to a father, and of course you can't put a mother in jail for non-support when she has a child at home.

Being 50, I've been divorced for 8 years after being married for 10 years. I will NEVER marry again. The idea that men are now lazy and immature is absolutely ridiculous at best. If I ever got married again (unlikely, because I am in exactly the position you are - paid off house and cars, debt free, etc.) I would do it like my cousin Mike. He told his wife up front that what he wanted was a stay at home wife to run the house and take care of the children - period.

They have a prenup that says that money is all she gets if they divorce, other than child support. That's still a great deal for her, because they pay all their household expenses from his money, and she only has to touch hers for luxury items that she might want.
