The JUSTIFIED Execution Of Ferenc Szalasi

  • After the Second World War, there were many executions that took place to bring war criminals to justice and many of these were conducted in public. Ferenc Szalasi was announced as 'The Leader of the Nation,' of Hungary for a period of around 160 days after Adolf Hitler and the Nazis put him and his Arrow Cross Party in control. He was a far-right leader, but despite not being in power in Hungary for a long time, he committed huge atrocities that led to him being executed for treason in Budapest.
    When Szalasi came into power, he resumed the large scale deportations to the concentration camps, and around 15,000 people were executed during the months he remained in charge. His Arrow Cross Party fought alongside the German Army against the Soviet Red Army, and after the war Ferenc Szalasi was sentenced to death for treason. He was brought into a public square in Budapest where thousands of people witnessed his execution which took place using the pole method.

      Interesting cause I defected Hungary also but from the communist who killed Szalasi. OK, he was an extreme right-winger but Kadar was an extreme leftist. So we both left but I left from the bad people. Let's face it the Coomies were the bad people don't you think? From the right people didn't flee or defect. Only Jews and commies. Well, right now we have Putin's ass-kisser Orban dictator.

    One thing to note here:
    By 1944, Hungarian Jews had already been deprived of their citizenship. The **instant** that the Nazis took control of Hungary, the deportations of Jews to extermination centers began. Something like 200,000 Hungarian Jews were murdered in 6 months. These casualties **ARE NOT** accounted for in your '95,000 killed or sent to concentration camp' figure. That figure only accounts for Hungarian political opponents and partisans [though Hungary didn't have anything like the partisan activity in Yugoslavia, Belarus or the Ukraine]. These victims were Communists, Romany, and other political opponents of the Arrow Cross, but definitively do not include Hungarian Jews.
    And Szalasci's execution had a lot more to do with Stalin cleaning house for the Hungarian Communist Party than it did for any war crimes Szalasci committed. The man deserved execution for his crimes, but that's not what he was executed for.

    • @paulbrower4265
      @paulbrower4265 ปีที่แล้ว

      Szalasi had no following after World War II. He could have done nothing to thwart the Communist rise to power in Hungary. It is safe to assume that the Hungarians who tried and damned him were not Communists. The Americans turned him over to a non-communist Hungarian government that itself wanted him dead.
      he was unjustly hanged. Burning at the stake would have been more appropriate for him.

    little correction with this story.....Szalasi did grab the power from Horthy,after the Gestapo found out about Kallai's double standard to surrender to the Red Army....Skorzeny (Hitler's best commando unit's leader) shot Horthy's nephew from close range at the Hotel Majestyk in Budapest.....which in turn played the power into the Cross-Arrow (Nyilas-Keresztes Part) Party's hands....also the Jewish Rabbi was in Syria for a negotiations for the Jews in Hungary(which later worked as a Swedish Ambassador/Doctor was tasked to print out fake visas to thousands of Hungarian Jews and sent them to Sweden) with the OSS and the British Secret Service.....while the Rabbi was tied down in Syria,close to 30 000 people got wagoned up headed for Auschwitz Birkenau for "skilled labor" purposes.....out of the 300 000 only 60 000 or so were Jewish,the rest was just political opponents to Szalasi's reign and most of them were gassed .....the real numbers are still subject of investigations because the birth certificates collected in Hungary of all those that were shipped to Auschwitz,and the claimed dead bodies show a huge difference of how many were actually killed,and how many were just added onto the JDO's and UNRA's missing person's list as victims of the Holocast.....the order to execute these poor people came from none less than Pohl head of the SS/TV (totemkopfverden) division who got his just dessert at Nuremberg in 1946.....

    Good document and one that needed making. One secondary observation: you mention « the Regent » two or three times but without mentioning his name and I understand this to be Viscount Horthy. In one mention you say his son was taken hostage against release of the Arrow Cross leader: given the latter’s subsequent advancement presumably the Regent’s son was released but how old was he and what happened to Horthy afterwards? Again presumably, did he remain as Regent ie as head of state but powerless and at the mercy perhaps of the Arrow Cross leader who had the backing of the German army now in occupation. I understand Horthy somehow made contact with Soviet troops to withdraw from the war:how did he manage to do this? Perhaps via a legation of a neutral country? Or by some discreet instruction to a trusted army commander at the front lines opposing the approaching Red Army? Finally, how did Horthy manage to secure his own safety from Arrow Cross fascist reaction?

    Pretty wrong. You clearly have no clue about Austro-Hungarian method of hanging. Of course, they could just hang the condemned - let him slowly suffocate.
    But real method involved the use of the rather thin noose and pulling the condemned with the rope attached to the legs through the pulley. That should close not only airways but major arteries supplying blood to the brain. If properly done, executed person should lost consciousness within seconds (10 and less probably). Moreover, it is described that such sudden pressure on these arteries causes cardiac arrest due to some nerve-system loop.
    This method was used i.e. to execute K.H. Frank in Czechoslovakia - video is available on youtube

      @ligerpride The objectives of a punishment by law are multiple. Admittedly, one of them is taking revenge for the wrongdoing committed. Other such objectives are protecting the society from the person repeating the crime, deterring others from doing the same, providing relief for the victims and their families, and re-socializing the criminal, if possible. So, "vengeful" can also be "justified" if it's the society who takes revenge. Taking revenge for a criminal deed is unlawful for an individual, but a society with its legal and law enforcement systems has the right to exercise revenge by including it in the objectives of the punishment of a person considered criminal.

      Just like in Australia, where we abolished it state by state until it was completely abolished, the USA is doing the same. Indeed Virginia, one of the so called "southern states" abolished it in 2021. The only question is what state will be next to abolish it?
