Thanks! 🙏 I'm sitting in a hotel in Lisbon, tomorrow is my last day of the conference here, it's already half past midnight, and I feel at the seventh heaven after listening to BAND-MAID together with you. You make me so happy with your insightful comments, man! It's interesting that you notes that CHEMICAL REACTION sounds like THRILL. Well, at least it gives some justification for them calling this part of the album ROOTS. I'll wait until you listen to PROGRESS part, to hear your opinion on how progressive is that part of the album. But probably in order to understand the progressiveness or traditionality of these songs you need to know their full catalogue. We should have started from the first album and move to the later ones. But I love UNSEEN WORLD so much, I really wanted to see how you would react to it. Thanks again! Million thanks for your wonderful analysis!
Vlad, you are the fucking man dude. Thank you so much for making this happen! So far, this is amazing. And I doubt that's gonna change. I can't wait for side B! This is gonna be nuts 😂😂 I am so glad that you enjoyed the video and had a good time listening with me. All I hope for with these videos is that someone gets some solace and time to take a breath and enjoy life for a second. I hope everything goes well and please travel safe my friend 🙏
@@L33Reacts I think I have shared them with you. Three songs in instrumental versions will be in your B-side reaction, I guess. I mean, unless you want to make them separately, technically it was Disc 3 of the De Lux Edition.
There are 3 versions of this album. The two CD Limited Edition, which is what you are reacting to which is the only one that has "Youth." The Limited Edition which has one 12 song CD and a DVD/Blu-ray of "White Room" instrumentals of After Life, No God, Giovanni, and Without Holding Back. And a regular CD version of just the 12 song CD. Their "White Room" instrumentals have 5 videos for each song, one of the whole group and one focused on each member. Glad to see you doing this two CD version. There is also a version of the Sense single that includes a DVD/Blu-ray of a live performance of 6 songs from Unseen World. My hat's off to Vlad for sponsoring this. He has always done so much for the Band-Maid community.
Vlad is the man! He really does a lot for folks and I will always remember him for that. Youth is my favorite so far too, that's wild its just for this album. It's so fun and nostalgic. I love it. I really want to hear the instrumentals too because I bet they are nuts
It's amazing how Band Maid can include one of their seldom played songs in their setlist and all the audience members felt like they got a special gift.
Many Thanks! to superfan Vlad Chupin for sponsoring this! I know he loves Band-Maid and he has a boatload of concert videos on his channel. I've been following your album reviews for King Crimson and Yes and Genesis - I grew up on those progressive albums and I love them. Band-Maid is progressive too, but in a different way. They have their own style and sound. They don't have 10 minute epics ... although some prog bands like Rush typically made long epics out of a number of shorter songs, so who knows what the future of Band-Maid will be. I'd love a Band-Maid rock opera. You're listening to one version of this album; the "normal" version is one disc with 14 tracks that starts with "Warning!" and ends with "Black Hole." This "limited edition" version has the same songs reorganized into "Roots" and "Progress" plus "Youth" and a dvd/bluray with instrumental versions of four songs, with five videos of each song (focused on each of the four instrumentalists and one of the whole group). Disc 1 (Roots, 原点回帰盤) literally something like "return to origin" is intended to show they don't intend to forget the rock and roll they started with. Track 3 Youth is a bonus track, only found on this Limited Edition you are reviewing; you won't find it on their channel. It's one of my favorites - it sounds like summer. I Still Seek Revenge is a brilliant song in a live setting. You'll hear that Disc 2 is somewhat more frenetic than this. Kanami Tōno is a well-educated musician, but she retains the "feel" that a lot of progressive guitarists lose as their knowledge advances. My theory is that she learned a lot when she was so young that it was incorporated into her being at a visceral level. She knows how altered chords (for example) affect you at a gut level; they have a emotional purpose. They're not for flash or to announce that she knows they exist. The more you listen to her, the more impressive her songwriting is. You commented on one aspect of Band-Maid that I absolutely love - that's how each of them are off doing their own thing and yet they are fused together into one whole. I've compared it to Dixieland Jazz; there is an underlying structure that allows each of them to vamp while fitting into the song and advancing the harmony. It's really great and you can listen to this album over and over and over again without getting tired of it. You'll constantly be discovering cool little details you'd missed. I guess I don't want to be annoying like a pebble in your shoe, so thanks for the album review and we look forward to next Wednesday.
It's such a beautiful mix! Like you said, everyone playing their own song but all those individual songs equals the band maid track being played 😂😂 its crazy. And yes, vlad is the fucking man. We talk music a lot and he's very knowledgeable and very invested, just like me! I love finding birds of a feather. I can't wait for side B! I didn't even realize it was a special edition. I guess I'm lucky :) now I remember vlad mentioning that lol
Great comment, Surf! Also kudos to Vladimir, a true Band-Maid fan legend. Seems we have some similar musical listening background, as many of us older Masters & Princesses (but mostly Masters ofc 😂), with the Holy Triumvirate figuring prominently in our history. I always say I find a great deal of similar approaches to the lead guitar between Kanami and Alex Lifeson. Not really in their playing, but something about Kanami’s feel and the function the lead guitar takes in both bands’ songs. She, like Alex, does a lot to create the song soundscape, but like him she doesn’t do too much - always serving the song first and foremost. And like Alex, she can revert back to pretty heavy blues soloing at times, when it works for the song, ofc - like at the end of Sayonkadori- that crying, pleading solo is absolutely perfect!! It’s important not to take the comparison too far, their are vast differences, too. But she’s probably the first guitarist in 40 years who speaks to me in a similar way to Alex. Pebble, take care and rock on 🤘🏼🤷🏻♂️🎸🥁🎤🎼😎🤘🏼
The 4th song “サヨナキドリ” or “Sayonakidori”, which means “Nightingale”. You can find the acoustic version of the song on official youtube channel for BAND-MAID.
Great react. Thanks to Vlad for the sponsorship. This album is a masterpiece, front to back. Just remember that this is the more "traditional" side. The wild and crazy stuff is yet to come.
@@L33Reacts that's the beauty of BAND-MAID: they sound catchy enough to grab your attention immediately, but the more you listen to any single song, the more you discover. And then you hear an instrumental version, and you understand that you missed half of what is happening in the background 😂
They started their US tour this time last year. Finished recently and are now finishing their tenth anniversary in Japan. Over a year of touring on and off in small and big venues and in each venue are simply unique from reports and fan videos on line. This album, out of all of them. Took me a few listens before I suddenly loved it. Most Band Maid songs and albums are instant loves for me. But this took me just a few repeats before like turned to love. Each album is different from the last. At least for me, so getting used to being constantly hit with a wall of sound was fun.
They really do the wall of sound well. It's always a varied and complex sound that is constantly evolving throughout the track. It never gets tired, once! So much energy and enthusiasm. It's great.
It's been a long time since I listened to a "concept" album that isn't full of long songs. This is a real banger/masterpiece showing the "traditional" rock they can throw at us on this side and going bonkers on the second side with more experimental music. They are so good and not afraid of making music their way. They are truly unique in todays music scene.
Thanks Lee for a great reaction! Thanks to Vlad, too. Congratulations on your milestone! I'm going to strongly suggest you read an interview of the band when "Unseen World" came out on Mikki, 1-20-2021. If you can't find it, go to the Wikipedia article for the album and click on the link in footnote 12. The side you listened to is Genten_kaiki, or _back to the roots_ . Great comments, thanks again!
Thanks to Vlad and L33 for this. This reaction also helped re-introduced me to some of their deeper cuts. “Why, why, why” has been recently added to some of their Japan shows. Now I’m reminded why why why! I didn’t have that one on my playlist? Knock me over with a pebble!

Vladimir was one of the first people l talked with at length about Band-Maid on social media over five years ago. He was one of the first to get what this band is all about when everyone was guessing. I have seen them four times now and they are, without fail, one of the most personable bands going and truly appreciate their fans. The irony is that the band was initially out there several said this is a gimmick. Turns out the gimmick was being your real self. Ask Miku. She will tell you. This music is not just written by Miku and Kanami. It is arranged and produced by the band as well. Both MISA and Kanami know there way around a soundboard. There is no Rick Rubens standing in the wings. About the album cover. That was conceived and photographed by Saiki. How many bands do you know who are their own art directors? A band will often approve a cover the label proposed but very few bands do the entire thing themselves. Today my very favorite bands are Band-Maid, Lovebites and Nemophila. There is so much great music coming out of Japan it is hard to keep up with it all.

You're going to have "Manners" twice because it is on both CDs. They considered it a song that bridged the two CD concepts, Gentenkaiki -ban [ 原点回帰盤 ], Roots, and Gentenshinka -ban [ 現点進化盤 ], Progress. My favorite off the album, if I could be said to have such a thing, is on the next CD, Honkai.
