    Hey guys, thanks for watching! Humor is subjective and my humor is not everyone's cup of tea but I sure had fun making it! Plus, my mom thinks it's funny too.

    I designed the first alt bracket for the fiero in 06'or07? For West Coast Fiero, Chris West, backwards was what I came up with, it's been running 20k miles no problems. I still have the car, and do love it so..lol

    I think corvair alternators run backwards and therefor they have a reverse fan. Check it out.

    Alternators will work in either direction (because they are AC), and usually the fan isn't an issue. Fan blades are often just bent sheetmetal, they often beat the air into submission more than they operate in any particular direction. The only thing you need to be careful of is to replace the brushes. Brushes take a "set" when they are in use, and if you operate the alternator in the opposite direction they will often chip and spark, leading to failure. There are also alternators that have brushes that are offset from the centerline of the slip rings, these should only be operated in one direction (ie. factory direction) otherwise the brushes will fail quickly.

    Nice work. I noticed you use 4130 "A" on some of your weldments over condition "N". Are you using that for ease of forming or is that just happens to be what you are sourcing ? I envy getting to weld that thick stuff. I fabricate/restore vintage aircraft and most of the tubing wall thickness is .035 and .049. and sometimes .028. You have to be having one of those good welding days when you put the heat to that .028. Thanks for the video.

      Good question, I started ordering the steel from McMaster-Carr because of their price point but didn't notice the different lettering. I'm used to bending and forming 4130 and did not really notice a difference when bending the "A" material.

    • @rearspeaker6364

      @@JohnReynolds661 When I worked at Chevy, had many 5.3 Impalas with belt squeal complaints only with compressor running. New belt would fix them for a while, but the wrap area should have been more. I never realized this. Oh well it is what it is.

      @@JohnReynolds661 I always feel honored when a famous guy looks and even responds to my comments 🙂
      I am a boatbuilding cousin of yours. Not a brother because my workmanship is not at your level.
      My build approach is similar, the problem with composite builds is you have to wait for at least 24 hours before the epoxy sets.
      when I watch your current project I wonder if you had designed it the same way? e.g. the challenge of finding the right place for the coils springs.
      It's always good to know that the bolt on parts from Amazon can resolve your problem in case you are stuck :-)

    • @JohnReynolds661
      @JohnReynolds661  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure you're selling yourself short. We look at a problem, find all the different ways to solve it and pick the most elegant solution. Then it's a matter of being patient in the execution.

    If you run into cooling problems with the alternator, There are small, ductable fans available that run on 12v. or, you could make a new fan for it for turning the opposite direction.
