Some members feel that this is their absolute favourite book ever picked for Emily’s Walking Book Club. It is incredibly powerful, and feels very real in that it is full of contradictions, nothing is straightforward.
Listen out for Emily’s thoughts on the mother-daughter relationship, being a misfit, the power of poetry - and also for some readings from this beautiful book.
This was the June 2022 pick for Emily’s Walking Book Club, which meets monthly for a Sunday walk on Hampstead Heath, a Monday evening Zoom, and a Friday live Discussion Thread.
The July book is The Gold-Rimmed Spectacles, a powerful novella about being gay in 1930s Italy, by Giorgio Bassani.
