    Excellent video, great to see the line as it was only 9 years ago! At 3:22 you can see 2 straps across the 4 bearer sleepers, this is a breather switch and allows for expansion and contraction near points and crossings. They can be seen at Cherryville near the end too. Thanks for sharing!

      ***** Glad you enjoyed it Mick, yeah I see those breather switches a lot, have some on each side of the viaduct here in Thomastown too.

    Great video Twinkster, one of my favourite locos! 112 sounds different to her 071 cousins. It wasn't too long after this that she returned to NIR where she hardly turned a wheel.

    Great video, today's DFDS liner passed through Bennettsbridge about ten minutes ago due to the delays.

    A truly fantastic video Dan 112 sounds fantastic I always thought the 111s sound slightly better than the 071s to be honest

      I'd say they have a good 10 years left in them.

    Thanks MV! There is a subtle difference alright, slightly 'smoother' tone. Could be that the 111s have had a less 'gruelling' lifestyle than their 071 counterparts :)

    Now that's what I call carnage! Buckling of the rails could have been possible due to the extreme temps we're getting but it shouldn't happen if the rails are anchored properly to the sleepers.
    I notice we use a sort of spring clip over here so I guess this could allow unwanted movement of the rail. The only gaps I see are at signals where the track circuit is broken, this would allow for a small amount of rail expansion I guess. Is this not the case on the cork line?

    I notice that the 071s and the 111s are still being used due to their power and durability,I live next to the main Dublin Belfast line and get to hear these trains every day hauling tara mines wagons

      That's right, all 18 071s and 3 111s are still in service over 40 years after their introduction and there's no signs of them bowing out yet.

    most routes were up to 4 hours late.
    One thing I do wonder is on the Waterford route they have a little gap between the rails to allow them expand from heat but on the Cork route there is no gap and its heaver track so how does it expand is why I want to know

  • @TheIrishMainline
    @TheIrishMainline  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh I see, didn't hear about that, txs Ronan.

  • @Ronan34710
    @Ronan34710 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That didn't cause the delays, a track machine failed at 15.00 (rumour is track buckeled with heart) and a signal failure at Cherryville.

    So sad these trains have been taken away so easily

  • @Ronan34710

    Yeah it was a complete joke, both lines were backed up from Nass to Heuston including the double outbound lines, single line working was used for a time. When things started to move the signal failures at Cherryville end up with the 14.50 from Waterford blocking the 15.10 to Waterford and everything stopped for another 60 minutes.
    15.10 arrived in Waterford at 20.40
    16.40 arrived at 22.10
    17.35 arrived at 22.40
    18.35 arrived at 23.15.
    18.25 to Heuston was a bus transfer.

    Only very rarely, I've a shot of 112 on the bubble cement a couple of months after this: th-cam.com/video/oAPrpf11suA/w-d-xo.html & also Metro Vick got a similar one: th-cam.com/video/Xqxp1lWXCQQ/w-d-xo.html
