According to the staff:
The buffet opens for dinner at 1600
People tend to line up for it at 1400
At 1600 they start letting people pay and be seated
It takes about an hour to fill up the entire buffet, and once it is full, it is full.
There are no more tables available after it fills up, and as the first set of customers finish their meals, they clean up and a table is ready for the next customer.. assuming the 1400 people take 2 hours to finish their meal, more tables start becoming available at 1800.
BEST METHOD:
It appears that no matter what, you will wait for about 2 or more hours any which way you do it. So get there at 1400 with a little chair, and just sit in the front of the line. This way, you just sit there and not have to repeatedly get up and sit down again as the line moves at 1600. Bringing friends to take turns being on line also helps.
I stayed at the South Point in December. Didn't do the Seafood night, but enjoyed the regular breakfast and dinner buffet a few times. The Coronado Restaurant is also very good. Keep up the great work Danny!

Seafood buffets always attracts a crowd. It's usually not worth it. Surprised they have snow crab legs considering the crabs are almost extinct.

Enjoy your videos Danny, I've been doing Vegas since late1960's. Many casinos gave shrimp cocktails away like drinks - most Buffets were under $5.00, and girls pushed carts around to give players change. The machines were much looser then.

Thanks for taking one for the team but I would not have lined up for 3 hours. The only items I liked were the clams and crab. Seafood gets a new life with lemon juice to cover the smell.
I just loved your production and presentation. What I don't understand is why the South Point doesn't use an iPad or buzzing guest pager...forcing you to wait in that life-suckling line. The South Point is in the casino business, but has a system that won't allow you to play while waiting your turn. Makes no sense. You're a better man than I, Danny the Medic®.

The South Point buffet has just an incredible popularity that doesn't match up with the quality. I once had the brunch buffet and quickly regretted my decision, especially as I had a car and could have gone to the Black Bear Diner instead. Maybe it's just because buffets are disappearing, but they could probably use "Home of the Nursing Home Noodles" as a slogan and still have a 4-hour line.
It is popular because of the price and because the casino is pretty generous in giving away free buffets to people who gamble.
His name is appropriate since he cuts through the bullshit for us, so we know what the heck we are walking into when we go to these buffets. A lot of food but not a lot of good food. I love him!

My husband and I went here in early January and it was soooo great. I knew from previous videos that the lines get horribly long so we got there around 2:30. My husband and I tagged teamed the line. I would stand in line for a while and he would go play then we would switch, so it wasn’t so bad. We were about maybe 50-60 people back and we got our table around 4:30. The food was so fresh and very yummy, the servers and buffet workers are so nice. You can’t beat the price for the oysters and crab alone. We thought it was really worth standing in line.
they cant just HAND OUT A NUMBER? they gotta make you tag team your husband outside???.. horrid ! I am NEVER going back there for a friday night unless they stop that stand on the line baloney!
Hi Danny, as a local I don't live near the South Point so I don't go there. But, it seems like a very very popular place for all the locals there. 3 hr buffet wait is proof ! I guess in the beginning some people thought a large casino so far south and off the strip wouldn't make it. But, the population in the area grew and grew and now it's firmly established !

It was “Story Time w/DannyTheMedic” Now in the refilling of this video, get his grandson in asking the question, then story, then the don, then story, then grandpa Joe. Kinda like the wait in line. So much casting and editing involved. A real production.
Thanks for taking the bullet. I honestly would have felt ripped off for the lack of selection. More the stuff than the price which I guess was fair. If the labeled butter wasn’t actual butter, that’s a huge health violation. I’m assuming it was butter. The other mystery one was a sauce or margarine. Great video Danny!
Oh one night of my resort fee was refunded. My bill was messed up and I had to call and this lady I got made everything right and saved a customer.

I once walked to the end of that line, which led me directly into the Steak & Shake in the corner, where I enjoyed burgers and fries. Eventually I did the buffet at lunch, which is a bargain for $16.

Dungeness crab is my favorite crab that I have sampled. I'm not a big shellfish person. But, I had a girlfriend that introduced me to Dungeness crab and the flavor notes hit strong enough to override my knowledge that most shellfish are bottom feeders related to insects. I know...I'm a speciest. :)
Have tried going to this seafood buffet in the past...and each time when we saw the line, each time we ended up eating at the Steak 'n Shake, next door. Have only been to this buffet for the breakfast which by the way, over the years, is a bargain for the price you pay, especially if you are a South Point club member

Hi Danny! Wow! Look at that line…craziness! Now I am so curious what is so special about this buffet…this was so hilarious on all your comments. What did they do go send divers to catch all the fish and harvest all the crab? Lol! But I am glad you made it inside…it was a journey to get there then a very long wait…at least they had gelato😊…that apple streusel looked good! nursing home noodles…😢lol! keep in mind danny, that the fake butter is in tons of buffet and some regular restaurant foods too. when you see them make something at a hibachi section of the buffet, they squeeze on that buttery mix stuff and i also get that at most seafood restaurants too. but the cool thing is, when i go to my local hibachi buffet, i ask for butter, they say they dont have it and then i tell them they do and they get it from the kitchen where they do have real butter. and then put it in the nuker for me. :-)
I am sick of the cost cutting measures of for-profit restaurants....

Would never wait in such a line for any buffet but never go off strip anymore, anyway. The thin fried shrimp was "butterflied" which is as you described 'smashed':-) You can get much better and thicker in the frozen section of a super market. I like to dip them in very hot/spicy cocktail sauce. Those there had to be very small before being smashed!

We've eaten there for lunch on a regular weekday. Had about an hour wait and thought it was worth it considering the low price.

Visited South Point for the first time in 2015 and again in 2022. I have to say I think it’s gone downhill. I like to stay on strip, but a family member has a timeshare next door so we checked it out. It is the smokiest casino I’ve ever been to. I usually don’t mind some smoke, but everyone I went with had red eyes and sore throats after a few hours in there. The buffet is nothing special and I’d never wait in that line, but for your effort you gained a new subscriber!

After looking at this video again, I decided that the wait in that long line for what is called a seafood buffet is still not worth it. I would like to see more seafood items, mixes, salads etc.😁

I arrived at 4:10pm and waited only 1 hour and 56 minutes. Few of my friends went there and the average wait time is roughly 2 hours. The line was crazy long!!!!

I think the small cup was melted butter the labeled butter was clarified butter. Maybe the cups are for people that want individual portions due to being scared of germs. Maybe??

the prime rib line was not bad, and the food was delish, but that lobster line was way long and the food was horrid!

Thanks for standing in the long line for us … now I know in my opinion it wasn’t worth it, plus u had to travel a long distance just to get there. I agree with one of the comments that I’d much rather pay a little more at one of the better buffets on the Strip and have better quality seafood. We had a reservation at Bacchanal, still had to wait, but it was more like 30 min to get in for dinner.
The M Resort is even farther south.

I was at the South Point in April... The line was long (but your line was lonnnnnnnnnnnng!) so my friend and I visited all the other restaurants instead. The Coronado Cafe had great food too! Great video Danny! $44 for that? Do you feel it was worth it?

Thanks for the great video Danny. I'm not a seafood eater when it comes to buffets. I'll have some clams and some baked mussels, don't really care for the crab legs too much work to get a small bit of meat. Unless they were cut in half. For me Prime Rib all day.

I once waited in line for 4 hours at the Palms AYCE buffet on lobster night. Never again!
You don't need to do that anymore, just go at noon to wait in the line for about an hour in line to prepay, then you can come back anytime when it opens at 2pm, just another 15 min to wait to get a table

Whoa! I guess all those people are staying at that hotel and didn't want to leave to go to the Strip or out to eat elsewhere. So sorry most of the battered foods were a bust but you did find a few gems like the clams and Dungeness crab. The Buffet should really warn people what they are getting....cold butter? You called it all right. Scary that you liked it more than the "real" butter.
😁 We go there early morning and bet on horse racing then one of us who doesn't gamble will line up at 2:30 pm with ipad and watch movies. Lines are always long even on weekday dinners. This is not the best buffet in Vegas but we believe the price is right. 👍
