Was lucky enough to explore Pyestock back in the day before it all got demolished. It was such a vast place & I don’t think I will ever find anything that would even come close again... we spent days there and still didn’t see it all & never managed to get to the famous model jet !!

Dust? Or asbestos? Not much left but the anechroic chamber...The “pull” handles are in case someone gets left behind during a engine test, shuts it down. Endless ducting for the Venturi effect.

Noise that's used to come fromm this place unreal.but to me never annoying. always knew when they were testing, home electrics used to go mad... Was sad to see It go, saddened even more finding out no museum any kind would be laid to commemorate, which let's be honest, was so important to world aviation development

The bridge you across as The beginning of the video was made from wooden pads that they use when they need to put an excavator (digger) into a swampy or marshy area to keep it from sinking.

It's terrible that sites that are so important historically, are simply demolished. They usually lie empty for sometimes decades, before anyone comes up with a viable idea for the site. The UK possibly leads the world in the protection and preservation of historic sites, like Henges, Castles, and Stately Homes. However, on modern historic infrastructure - not so much.
And I knew that there was a reason that I only ever wear boots.
Red flags behind the fence probably show where anti trespass Thunderflashes are hidden. Or failing that, landmines. Always good for a laugh.
11:00 - Biggest Anechoic chamber I've ever seen. I went into an Anechoic chamber (not this one, which is incredible), years ago, with the door shut. It was unreal. Talking sounded like when you talk, and can hear your own voice with earplugs in. I was also aware of two noises, one low-pitched, the other high, which, as there was zero possible external audio in the chamber, was very weird to me. When I came out, I asked my friend, who was an engineer at the site, what the noises were. He said, quite nonchalantly, that the low pitched sound was my circulatory system, and the high was possibly my nervous system. That freaked me out a bit.

In space, no one can hear you scream! - In this facility, a security guard could creep up behind you, and you'd never hear him coming! Those extractor fans above the baffles, are almost identical to the ones in our grain dryer. Ours would be a tad smaller, and only two of them. I know you said you'd love to hear them running, but I can honestly assure you, you wouldn't!
Another place that would have been interesting to explore, would have been at BAE, Brough, just outside Hull. Now, they had external baffles, and you could hear them test running engines over here, some twenty plus miles away! It's been a long time since that facility went quiet. I can't really say what's still there these days.
Anyway, who's been a naughty boy then? - Spoiler alert! Ian obviously survived his accident, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to tell us about it!

Amazing place. So... what does the work of this place now? Have we, as a nation, stopped developing gas turbine engines? I guess Rolls-Royce at Hucknall nr Derby can do some work but it seems sad that we have lost the worlds greatest known jet lab. Great tour though folks, thanks for showing us the little worlds within the world we would otherwise never get to see otherwise!

The UK has a Quiet Law in the evening, so an abandoned US Air Force in the UK had a building for testing engines that had a giant extension that acted as a muffler to quiet the engine noise, when testing at night.
