    These are really great amps . The 18 watts is deceptive in these amps. They get a nice full clean sound that will hold it's own on stage with a fairly strong drummer.

    Recently purchased the head version of this amp. It's so badass. I don't think this video does justice enough. This thing seriously has balls. I think it's even tougher than my Dr Z MONZA . And the variable boost bypass switch really makes the leads sing!

      @@CraigHlavka actually both of my Maz’s are NR. When I was researching them I understood the NR had a little more sizzle or gain than the R. Back then that mattered to me but now it doesn’t. But since I don’t use reverb it works out great. Haha

    I bought a used Maz 18 about 1.5 years ago and had it sent directly to Dr Z for the Mkii upgrade and as soon as I got it back from Dr Z I immediately installed a Weber Silver Alnico. I also put all NOS tubes in it. Fortunately, I was able to gig with it a few times before Covid hit. The amp sounds dope.

    My only complaint of the older Maz 18 was the reverb. I ended up getting a NR and using a pedal. Sounds like this new amp has nice reverb, hopefully a fender reverb. Hmmmm, the gain sounds really good with the les paul.

    That is a great sounding amp...just wow! And the song choices, riffs, and overall guitar playing allowed you to hear all of the different sounds and how the amp accentuates what is great about each guitar. All amp demos should be this good. It astounds me whenever I read that the Reverb version of the Maz 18 doesn't have enough gain, and then I see demo videos like these that display appropriate amounts of gain out of a 1x12 combo! It makes sense in its cicuitry, but I'll take the Reverb version any day of the week.

    No review on youtube explains how the pots work! What's CUT? What's eq bypass? How do you get the distortion? Is it possible that even the official review doesn't explain anything?? I'm without words

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cut determines the amount of your guitar "cuts through" the mix by adding upper mids. EQ Bypass bypasses the EQ to further overdrive the amplifier. And you get distortion from turning the amplifier volume up.

    I'm sold on the mark 2 man! Tomorrow, I'm contacting Don, the repair dude at Dr Z and I'm popping the chassis out of my 2007 Maz 18 jr. With Reverb and I'm going to have them go through every bit of it and perform every update that they offer! I don't care if it cost 500 dollars or more the sounds that Mark II is worth every penny, and according to doctors he's weekly video chat with all of us those modifications will bring it up to Mark 2 status. I love my Maz 18 it's got the 210 speakers which I changed one of them out and put a celestion gold alnico speaker in it, 10 inch and it really brought that amp to life. It's kind of the matchless gig where they put two different manufacturer speakers in their amps with stunning results! Does anybody have phone number for Dr Z for the repair department?

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Master Volume is specifically tuned to get you down to bedroom levels, no attenuation needed. The EQ Bypass is a variable, footswitchable boost that can be dialed in for a subtle boost in volume, to full on singing, sustaining lead boost.

    I got this amp a couple months ago. Everything was great and i was happy and impressed with my sound and the dynamics of the amp but now i have a problem. The amp has a very loud hiss. It sounds like white noise the same as stepping on an distortion pedal. I can hear it through my rhythm playing even with the band. Revisions and improvements to the amps began in 2014 and culminated in totality with this year's MKII designation. In 2016 the variable footswitch and ultra light cabs made their appearance throughout the Dr. Z line. In 2017 the MAZ 18s started being stocked with NOS 6n14n power tubes. I'm an audio engineer who has owned a Z amp and they are by far my favorite amps to play and most importantly record. My only critique is with the demo videos on this channel. The audio always seems to be awful. Even a 57 in front of the amp with no EQ would give you a much better sound. Not a good representation of how these amps sound at all. Z hit me up if you'd like some quality control in the audio department for your demos! haha people who haven't owned a Z don't know what they're missing!

    • @DrZAmplification
      @DrZAmplification  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Josh, you might be a really great audio engineer (I wouldn't know because all I could find by googling your name was a facebook and a linkined in with 75 connections) but your public relations and professionalism is quite lacking. To come on and insult a potential client on a public forum is perhaps the least professional thing you could possibly do and if it wasn't for my personal curiosity, I would have rolled my eyes and not gave a second thought. Dr. Z going on it's 32 year, with tens of thousands of amps sold, at least 7000 of those being the amp you are commenting on, with 36k views 300 likes and 7 dislikes on this very video, let me give you some advice.
      What you should have done was send me an email, make an offer to send me a sample of your audio prowess or perhaps a trial, and see what I thought. That would have been a very professional approach and I would have considered it based on your samples and offer. But for now, since I didn't receive any samples, I think I will stick with Dave Baker, who is a full time studio musician and gun for hire in Nashville, the biggest recording city in America, and whom we pay very well for his professional services. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.

    • @thejoshuatree03
      @thejoshuatree03 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrZAmplification Hey I appreciate the response! I apologize for coming across a bit harsh, I certainly could have expressed my opinion a bit more delicately, but it was in no way meant to insult you or your company. I obviously have no idea how these videos are made or by who or anything like that, but you're right, in the end your company is thriving and rightfully so! You make an excellent product.
      I can't play guitar for beans so I'm no replacement for Dave Baker there, but I know how to mic an amp! And my stupid comment about hiring me for quality control was a bit of a jest and I thought it came across that way but maybe not. Honestly it would be a dream gig but I never expected you to read this, yet alone take time to reply to it so I suppose the jokes on me there! lol
      It simply comes from a place of frustration from having owned a Z amp and recording it on a good number of albums and knowing how amazing it sounds and many videos simply don't do it any justice. This critique actually applies to a majority of amp demos on youtube, so again, apologies for singling you out or insulting you, that was definitely not my intention. Anyone who has worked with me knows I don't shut up about Dr. Z amps and I've talked a bunch of clients into purchasing them. And will be purchasing another one here soon because in my opinion they are the perfect studio amps and I'd own them all if I could.
      BTW if your personal curiosity endures.. you can hear a couple samples here - soundcloud.com/joshbentonmixes I'm not expecting a job offer or anything lol but you are 100% correct in pointing out my severe lack of professional online presence.
