    Too bad about Takakeisho and Teru, but not all that surprising. Some great bouts in day two, for sure! Thanks, Jason!

    (sigh) I wasn't too surprised by Terunofuji pulling out, but Takakeisho AGAIN?! Is he just trying to get into the Top 10 for longest-reigning Ozeki? Because I highly doubt he's going to reach that if he keeps this up. (For the record, Goeido is currently #10 with 33 tournaments at Ozeki, while Takakeisho is currently at 29 tournaments, which will be 30 in Nagoya.)
    As a side note, I won't post the next Director (Terukuni) until after the next Top Division match is posted.

    Oddly, I can sympathize with Terunofuji right now. I'm dealing with a bruised rib myself, and if you asked me to participate in a competitive, top-level wrestling match, I would just laugh at you. It isn't a matter of 'fighting through' the pain. If I try to move too fast, or stretch in a way that aggravates it, the muscles just refuse to work. There is no way he could make it through 15 days of the best fighters Sumo has to offer with half his chest muscles randomly deciding they don't want to work anymore. Anyway, thanks for leaving the contest unlocked a little bit longer. This has been one crazy start to the basho!

  • @janellek21
    @janellek21 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    It pains me to say it, but I think Terunofuji is finished. I don't see how he can avoid retirement at this point. He won't be a dai-yokozuna, but his comeback from the knee injury and working his way back from Jonidan to Yokozuna is a tremendous achievement in itself and that's what he should be remembered most for.
    What's that pulley on your ceiling for?

    • @sumojason
      @sumojason  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      ummm... hanging stuff I think...
      as for Teru - he's been absent 10 of his 17 basho as a Yokozuna now, so it hasn't been a stellar run at the top, but his return to glory is undeniable and he still has 9 yusho - which is a high number even if it's not 10

    • @verholdt
      @verholdt 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@sumojasonyou’re right 9 is respectable it’s sad as he’s the most Yokozuna-like since my man Kakuryu as far as honor and respect and form.
      We were lucky to have him in the time we needed him.
      What’s sadder is whatever is in Hoshoryu’s mind that’s keeping him from dominating in the style of Uncle.

  • @ColinJ88

    The fact that all the top ranked guys lost on day one for the first time, speaks of the parity throughout the ranks. There is no clear cut consistent superstar able to surpass Ozeki rank, even with a depleted Yokozuna not getting in their way. Sad and strange.

      Enho hasn't retired. He's injured and down in the bottom division. Unfortunately he's a basho short of the 30 basho in top division requirement to be a coach. He has to fight all the way back up before he can retire if he wants to be an elder

    • @trel
      @trel 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      i'm sure many wrestlers pull out every basho, but the high-ranked rikishi who aren't there are more keenly felt... I started watching in a time of Hakuho's prime and Kisenosato - two guys who almost never were absent, until they were... Now we just gotta enjoy the basho with the guys who are here are ready to compete

    All good things come to and end. Terunofuji won't get his 10th, Takakeisho won't make Yokozuna. Of the other 3 Ozeki, who will be the next Yokozuna? I put my money on Kotozakura, then Hoshoryu. Kirishima? Of those three, my gut says least likely make Yokozuna.

  • @orlandofurioso7958
    @orlandofurioso7958 17 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Regarding Onosato's win on day one against Terunofuji, understandably, he was happy, nonetheless, the facial expression he had, this being only my personal opinion, afterwards didn't fit as it would have were he have beaten him in his prime. For example, I don't know who will win the Mike Tyson, Jake Paul fight, but Jake wouldn't even been fit as a sparring partner in Tyson's prime. If he wins, he will as likely as not boast how good he is. He's a joke.

C) The Mord Dreide channel was a fun channel , but is from ISRL , and in the worldwide university area in Europe and EE.UU...that is boykott . I unsuscribed from him. Sorry but ISRL is appartheid....
