    dude, i’m 36 years old right now and i always saw my grandpa do that when he was cleaning up after doing lawn work . i would hangout in his garage as a kid and i always thought he was just kookooo for doing that . He always intimidated me so i never asked him why he’s doing that to the chords. bro , you opened my eyes to something amazing and genius lol . grandpa was a genius . god bless you homie 🤟🏿

    This is like the 5th video on this i watched. Yours was the only one I could understand very easily. All the other ones seemed so much more complicated to me. Thanks for the clear and easy instruction.

    That's how I wrap my cords too but I start from the middle so you don't have to undo the whole cord to use it, just undo as much length as you need. Great channel Blake, keep the awesome videos coming!

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting that's basically 180° of how I do it. I can see how that's helpful also great idea 💡

    • @patrickr.2668
      @patrickr.2668 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Put a Tie-wrap at middle as marker so it’s easier to start from middle. That way if you have 100’ cord and only need 20’ you don’t have to unwrap it all.

    Ive used this method for about two years now. Works great. I wrap it vise versa since my only cord is 100' and ill unravel what i need.

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Second time I’ve heard that makes since, I always unwrap the whole cord as I hate having to go back and drag more out but I totally get it for something fixed in place though.

    At last I have found this method again.
    I first met it many years ago in water safety where it used to be used to tie a lifeline to a lifebelt. One end of the line was tied to the belt and the other to a post. In a emergency the lifebelt can be removed from the post thrown to the casualty, and line would unravel quickly and without tangling.
    These days, vandals would mess about with it or even steal the lifebelt and / or the lifeline.

    My first job was an electricians helper and I've never stored a cord any other way.
    People that have problems with it generally try unwrapping it from the wrong end!

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. After I did the yard with an electric lawn mower, I wrapped the Xtension cords this way and my neighbor called me a smart ass. I told him " talk to Blake about that." He looked so confused because my husband's name is not Blake. 🤣🤣

    Probably been shared here but you should go back to the other end (center of cord) after you plug it together and start there so you could only unravel and use what you need.

    I've watched 2 videos now and they don't tell you how to store the cable. I did this today and now it's really hard to put back into the same storage spot. Is there a particular way?

    • @exploringmaine207
      @exploringmaine207 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will fold up pretty well that way. I usually hang mine up out of the way.

    • @nobodyimportant_23
      @nobodyimportant_23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@exploringmaine207 yea but you know if you do the regular extension chord roll (which is bad for the conductors) it ends up as a neat bundle. I guess i can put a hook on the wall or something and just hang it up as you say. I tried folding it but it's pretty unruly

  • @WhiteWingSTI

    I've been trying to teach my wife and sons this way, for years. It's to the point, now, they use a separate cord. ... The only other way I'll use is the "over/under".

  • @dankeeton9599

    Fold in half then start at the other end. NOT the plug end. Then you don't have to undo all of it when you just want to use a little.

  • @jazzmangocats

    There is a MUCH simpler method which works on other things like air/water hoses. Try the over / under method it's a lot easier and faster. Musicians have been using it forever to protect their valuable audio cables.
    "How to wrap guitar leads the right way using over under technique" should find you a good video on it.

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks I checked it out. Doesn’t seem like it helps a ton with tangles but I do see how it increases longevity of the cables when winding with the natural twist.

    • @michaelhall9138
      @michaelhall9138 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jarrod Thompso: We've been doing "over/under" at church for years. Works great and the cord doesn't tangle when uncoiling. I also use that method with my garden hose and home extension cords.

    It's a cool way, but not the best. Laso wrap over under is the best. You just need a tie, but most cables come with a tie and there are ties in every isle that has cables in it at every store. You can literally sling it out with no snags.
