I love how Nastia's music is always mysterious like something out of a noir film and Shawn's is always sprightly, and bouncy. I mean, if you want to know a gymnast's personality just check out their floor music :)
I love her ending move for both this routine and the one she did later, where she drops to the floor. She has a flair for drama and both moves look great! She's the best at incorporating dance elements into gymnastics.
If I'm right on my dates, I believe this is were Nastia first "tweeked" that ankle and reinjures it at World's which ultimately keeps her out of any true chances and spent 2007 doing rehab. Thankfully, she was able to find her pace and basically was peaking just in time for Bejing in 2008.

This routine was an adaptation because the wag code have been changed... look for AA FX WC 2005 this is the original routine... after this she begins to use her last routine... the same she used in Beijing OG... bye!!
@skaterANDgymnast the truth is that shawn is more powerful than nastia, however there's this misconception that gymnastics is purely a power sport-yes it takes a lot of strength, but the combinations Nastia has, instead of big skills like shawn, are equal in difficulty. Gymnastics is about more than just power, and when people miss that, they get caught up about who is better- when really, it's not that simple. apples and oranges, people.
This will blow your mind...she's only 5'3!!! I know she looks like she's 5'11 or something, but she is not! Long dancer body but the height of a gymnast...it's like she was specifically bred to be a gymnast!
Meilin Wu Well a Double Front is harder, but tbh I doubt she ever seriously trained a double back on floor. Surely if Khorkina could pull off a double pike Liukin could’ve.
@skaterANDgymnast ok im really sorry because I am not trying to be rude but honestly why do you have to bring shawn johnson into this..they are both 2 different people and two different styles of gymnasts..they shouldn't be compared. Both of them are amazing at gymnastics....once again not trying to be rude or anything
I love Nastia, but I hate the choreography in her floor routines. I just think she was capable of a lot more. Most of the choreography is holding poses instead of actually dancing (especially her Olympic routine).
Again, I consider it stopping and posing more than dancing. Nastia was always credited as the "artistic" gymnast while Shawn was the "power" gymnast, but I always found Shawn's floor performances much more expressive and interesting. And for the record, I really like both of them. Like I said, I always thought Nastia was capable of performing much better choreography.
She actually does ballet leaps in addition to the regular gymnastic leaps. Each flick of the hand/leap emphasizes the music. Her choreographer is wonderful.
Agree to disagree, I guess. I never said her leaps weren't beautiful, but the choreography is so much more than just the leaps. Everything between the tumbling, leaps, and turns in this routine just seems like filler to me (although I do like the acrobatic-style choreography down to the floor). It's too disjointed for my taste.
She isn't much of a flipper haha she is beautiful and talented don't get me wrong and does other things very well but she never once in that routine did a double flip of any kind... it was all twisting
@competitvegymnast1 lol when nastia goes on to win the all around and Shawn gets second... "Nastias body is good for gymnastics" it's called artistry..

:47 my mind was just blown. HOW is that even possible?!
Wow! She has great lines and great flexibility. She twists brilliantly in her somersaults! She is like an acrobatic ballerina!
Beautiful I miss this Nastia this was my favorite routine of hers
holy crap he legs are just amazing.
she looks soooo much like a soviet gymnast here
She is soviet. She was born in Moscow, Russia.
I can't stop watching this video !
IS SHE THE GIRL FROM STICK IT THE MOVIE? OR AM I MISTAKING HER FOR SOMEONE ELES WITH THE SAME NAME?
She was in stick it
Her legs are freaking me out!!!!!!
I imagine she planned to add the double front to that second pass ....... Damn that ankle injury
first time ive seen her do a back hand spring!
I was in the crowd at this meet!

i luv that first pass!
yeah she is

She is 5'3, that is tall for a gymnast, because most gymnasts are 4'11 or 5'0.
I love this routine
shes got a dancer body. How tall is she?
How old was she n this video ?
carley patterson and mustafina have that power body type too. For nastia its quality not quantity.
Has she ever done a double back in her entire life??
haha never
WHEN
and no, bars don't count.

She was training a double layout and did it on tumbl trak in some interviews

@TheWingedthing lol yea that would be like the only move that I can do in that performance :D
@supercheertay pretty sure it was only a double
I am mad at Nastia Liukin... Gymnasts are supposed to be tiny little things. But she has these HUMONGOUS legs!!! I am 11 a gymnast and I am 4 foot 3!
She reminds me of Whintey bjerken.❤❤❤
you mean Whitney reminds you of Nastia lmao. it’s the other way around
Was that MUstafinas second line?... 2.5 into front 1/1 ?
AleaTeo 1.5 into front 1

She dances way more than MOST other gymnasts, especially American ones.

SheaNDamon1829 judges love her type of choreo and that's all that counts
@TheWingedthing LOL
the easiest move in the hole performance u say is mind blown :D
the black camera crane thing has an american flag on it hahaha!
his legs did not prevent from being strong!
She isn't much of a flipper haha she is beautiful and talented don't get me wrong and does other things very well but she never once in that routine did a double flip of any kind... it was all twisting
@888167 Haha wow really? that shit is crazy!
@competitvegymnast1 lol when nastia goes on to win the all around and Shawn gets second... "Nastias body is good for gymnastics" it's called artistry..
Well it is true.... :/ Not trying to be rude :]
i know that but at :47 she was sitting on the floor.
now THAT is artistic. how come she's so lanky, other gymnasts are more... heavy.
at :47 i know how to do that. its called sitting on the floor.
i'm sorry, her twisting on every pass is impressive for sure, but it's a complete bore
she needs more meat-too skinny!seems like she is on a diet!
I think it's genetic. Her mother Anna is also very thin.
