We are down to EIGHT! The road to the Championship is nearing the end as we find out our first two Final Four contestants tonight. First up, teammates from The Experts 3-Brandon Walker battles 11-PFT Commenter in person. Then, 1-Kirk Minihane looks to for the double, two titles in one year, as he takes on the Cinderella 24-Frank the Tank!
The Dozen: 1v1 Battle Royale 2023 airs every Monday through Thursday at 7|6c for the entire month of September!

Kirk lost ultimately, but he 1000% did not pronounce the lyrics to his “Born in the USA” question correctly. Should’ve gotten that one wrong by Jeff’s pronunciation standards.

The uniqueness of this tournament was the chosen categories, funny ones from Nick like “heads or tails” and “cartoon mashup”, and Dana B choosing his HS Bball category. KB having “Pennsylvania public schools” lol…. You made it a whole new tournament in the elite 8??!

From a competition standpoint it’s bs to change the rules but all of the rule changes make a better product. Having the regular categories makes it more true to the dozen. Competitors like Fran or the guys that don’t watch sports won’t stand a chance with this method

Not really. I think this new format gives a more accurate person who is the top individual person in The Dozen. Not only do you know your own stuff and personal categories, you also know typical Dozen categories.

And yes, Kirk was right - the rules changed every round. The last 4 rounds aren’t fun. What fan cares that they can’t “play along”? That’s the whole point of the niches - these are questions that only the hardcore fans of each niche knows.

I didn't think I would like the 1V1 format, but I have loved it. I like the personalized categories the most. Again, didn't think I would but i do. Either way, I always look forward to the Dozen.. Wish they would bring back Jenga too.

Just depends on what you are into, but on the Sublime side, for them being "Sublime" catagory questions they have been very very easy.

Kirk got screwed on the final 4 questions. I'm from Canada and knew his US History answer, they made a movie about the guy like 5 years ago. Tough one for Kirk, they both played great.

That’s true about 1994, but the 1995 season was also shortened due to the strike, which is what the question referred to.

Kirk missed that Springsteen finish the lyrics questions. He said 'you' and it was actually 'he'. So he really got beat by 2.
The format change today was a wild move to do mid tournament, that’s what made this tourney fun, was that the competitors got to pick categories that they were confident in! To just randomly throw in 4 “original dozen categories” was weird and unnecessary. It really did nerf Kirk too, and as much as I wanted him to lose, I wanted him to lose when he had his categories. Stupid move, Jeff.
It's not like the Dozen categories is what sank him. He got two of his hand picked categories wrong, which ultimately lead to his downfall. The longer he picks Freddie Couples and a documentary, the harder the questions will get.
