    "She remembered a summer's snow in Winterfell when Arya and Bran had ambushed her as she emerged from the keep one morning. They'd each had a dozen snowballs to hand, and she'd had none. Bran had been perched on the roof of the covered bridge, out of reach, but Sansa had chased Arya through the stables and around the kitchen until both of them were breathless. She might even have caught her, but she'd slipped on some ice. Her sister came back to see if she was hurt. When she said she wasn't, Arya hit her in the face with another snowball, but Sansa grabbed her leg and pulled her down and was rubbing snow in her hair when Jory came along and pulled them apart, laughing." • @saranemcova5448
      @saranemcova5448 4 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      I think there is tiny possibility that Sansa will be raped by Harry the Heir in the books (yeah, I watch Preston Jacobs' theories). But you're absolutely right. TV writers didn't understand Sansa. They thought her arc is supposed to be her transformation from the Little Bird to Direwolf... to full Stark. Fierce, honorable Stark. This is not her path. Being Little Bird means being underestimated. Littlefinger knows this; he specifically chose mockingbird as his sigil. Birds are small and seem vurnerable, but they are capable of singing and flying. Songs are connected with life and happiness in GRRM's novels, but they are also linked with lying. Sansa loves songs and sings well; she is learning to lie well. Lies can be poisonous, lies can be sweet, just like songs are. Flying in the books is connected with new perspective and resourcefulness. Sansa is learning to lie, Sansa is learning to get information, and twist information for her advantage.
      Sansa is still naive in the way, but naivity is not stupidity. Sansa always had a strong empathy, she knows what others want. Joffrey wanted to be viewed as strong and intelligent ruler; she twists his words and saves Dontos' life. Tyrion wanted to be understood; she says that Old God's customs would bore him. Tyrion wonders who she is praying for, but worries she is too honorable and she would tell him the truth, after she lied to his face.
      I highly recommend essay of Sansa called Dances with Wolfs: Martial Language of Sansa's Story. It made me fall for her arc even more.

      GRRM was right when she said that Sansa's story is realistic. In my opinion, Sansa was created as a metaphor for the maturation of a girl during childhood / adolescence. At the beginning of the series, she was just a naive and dreamy little girl who tried to marry a prince and live a love story like in songs. Now she is no longer a pawn for Game of Thrones players, but one of those players. She is intelligent, mature, difficult to manipulate and, most importantly, she does not trust Littlefinger.

Like we’re both free spirited and do our own thing but we’re really different in therms of my sister is much more of a tomboy loves sports is would rather give “brutally honest answers” while i’m more artistic and career oriented and would more likely seek status and care much more about material things than my sister does. When people say they hate Sansa I know they mean they hate Sansa alllll the way from season/book 1. Now don’t get me wrong she was the absolute worst then. She was like a privileged rich white girl that was oblivious to other people’s suffering. But after season/book 2 that begin to change slowly but surely she has went through character growth but it’s like people refuse to see that. And book readers insist that the show version of her doesn’t count, but she is the only character they hold to that logic. No one says this about Jon/Arya/Daenerys (season 8 not withstanding because we all want to say that doesn’t count.)

    • @darth856
      @darth856 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the reason people say that the show version doesn't count is because season 5 made a rather significant departure regarding her character, since Sansa is not the girl who is married to and raped by Ramsay in the books. But that doesn't mean she may not end up in a similar place. I guess we will see if GRRM ever finishes that next book ;-)

    • @Anonymous_P
      @Anonymous_P 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the problem in the show is that they wanted to play Sansa as this character that has had the bigger growth, and that is like the fittest to rule winterfell and is just this perfect leader and person that knows it all. And she isn't, and when you see the contrast between this Sansa they want you to see and who she actually is, the distante is big. Sansa doesn't come off as that, she comes of as an annoying "strong female character" that has a lot of plot armor and ¿future vision?, so saying "shut up she's badly written" it's easier cause the gap is so obvious, and thus hating her is easier, cause un reality her character growth was haltered.
      I think most of the characters are badly written (I mean Jon became a super that only knows how to say "mah queen" and "I dun want it"), over the seasons whatever character growth stopped and they became tropes, or simply whatever the writers wanted them to be. ¿They eanted Dany to be a Hero to the Seven kingdoms? She would be protrayed as such, ¿they wanted Dany to be a psychopath? So be it. They end up being whatever the plot needs (see Jaime's destroyed arc for reference), bit many of them are still close to the growth that had been happening. Despite how nonsensical the plot of the men with no face ended up being, it set up Arya to be this criminal mastermind assasin, and despite how terrible it was later on developed, they stuck mostly to it in a way that was believable, so that "gap" between what they were portraying and what was shown wasn't that big.
      There are still some people that give shit to other characters and their arcs, bit I think this is why Sansa might come as unlikable by many more. Also let's add the fact that from the beggining she was annoying...so some people will just hate.

    there is no good or evil as in gods and demons, there is only human behavior, some behavior exists in a multidimensional spectrum of expectation, approval, acceptance, disapproval, rejection, taboo.
    Also we do this obsession of value judgement of people based on sayings "people are or aren't" and we do it because is product of multiple cognitive biases & prejudices given to us by evolution, like the Actor-Observer bias, which is when we as individuals do something we are biased to believe that we are just reacting to the environment however, while we look at others doing some action, if we don't know them, we have the bias to believe they are doing what they are doing because of their personality and we ignore the environment, the external circumstances, but when we know them personally we can see both. In reality our behavior is product of the environment plus our personality (habits, values, etc)
    The reason is our Brain is a survival oriented computer. process all information, external and internal to us for the sole purpose of surviving, and it isn't perfect at it so we have survival mechanisms that act outside of context.
    once again, there is no evil or good, only survival human behavior.

I think it's fascinating to see a character go from wide-eyed, naive optimist, to someone who believes "There are no heroes. In life the monsters win". I enjoy the characters who grow and develop like Sansa, Jaime, Samwell, Theon, and Brienne. I enjoyed Sansa's interactions with Sandor as she seemed to bring out a bit of light and nobility from him that hadn't been shown before.
      I enjoyed Dany's storyline in the first book but started to not like her nor enjoy her chapters after that, she didn't seem to learn from the situations she was in (like overthrowing a city to save them from oppressors then moving on to the next city and being surprised that a new oppressor took over).
      To me characters like Dany (apart from the huge change in her character in A Game of Thrones), Arya, Tyrion, and Cersei haven't developed much, and I just don't find stagnant characters interesting.

He goes from a guy with good intentions that does terrible things to help his family, in the hopes that they one day love him, to a bitter asshole who's desire to destroy his family almost overshadows his good sides.
      For Arya, well I prefer Sansa to her. For Dany, once again what she learns may not be positive, but she's not static. No more than Brienne that's for sure. Yes, she's nice, but she's always nice and she never stopped being nice.
