      Some rankers had Podkolzin as high as number 2 overall in the draft. Him dropping to Vancouver at 10th was an absolute gift from the first 9 teams drafting before. If he wasnt available who knows maybe they would have taken caulfield. Personally I'd rather have the size and defensive responsiblity that Podkolzin brings.

    As a Flyers fan that draft was certainly a rollercoaster of emotions, but seeing what York accomplished this year helped. Big 10 D-man of the year, Captaining Team USA to WJC gold while being one of the better producers in the tournament, and a solid showing in the AHL and NHL went a long way towards softening the blow. And while I think Cole is objectively the better player of the two, Yam Cork is probably more suited to the team's current needs anyway. He'll be fine in the regular season, where skill is more important than toughness. And since he plays with Suzuki, I'm sure he'll put up impressive numbers with him.

  • @Chenzo6969
    @Chenzo6969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    I always found the hindsight 20/20 reactions to be really ridiculous. First we are talking about players that are still raw. The draft was only 2 years ago. Most of these players are just turning 20. Not to mention the sample size is poor at best. The top 2 pick were the consensus top 2 in the draft. Looking back and stating they made a "mistake" to taking a player with these picks is hypocritical. Considering that an overwhelming majority of the people that report on hockey like yourself had them where they were picked. Players develop at different rates. Just because this kid can put the puck in the net there is much more to the game of hockey. Just my opinion of course.

    Cole Caufield was one of my top choices going into the draft in 2019, along with Zegras. Would have been very happy with both picks, but that said, if we were doing a redraft and Seider fell to the Wings again at 6th, I'm still taking him at this point, regardless of whether those other two are available or not. We've been missing that elite all-situation monster on our blueline since Lidstrom retired, and with the way his development is currently going, there's an excellent opportunity to rectify that problem.

Hughes and zegras weren’t give the same opportunity as him and yet their GAR is way better than his, not only that but Hughes has been anchoring his line since he was 18, zegras played one of The WORST SCORING teams of all time. Go look up how terrible their power play was and yet his GAR is higher and he scored at a better pace despite not having the talent around him. I personally am a little irritated with the Kings always going Center Center Center. However, i still think LAs office is run by 2 of the best humans in all of hockey. RB and LR. But seriously with the centers!? We get it we get it. Every year tho we are doing this??? J.A.D. , Villardi, Turcotte, and most recently the way over hyped # 2 pick Byfield. Over Stutzle!!?? Gimme a break. I can’t fault Any one for seeing value in Turcotte over Canfield but you could fault LA for taking Turcotte at 5. I’m over it. If you had faith in JAD the why Villardi, if you thought Villardi would get healthy and allegedly dominate then why Turcotte and so on. Kings are not being honest anymore saying they are drafting the “best available” player. Until this year of course. Clarke is going to be a King for 20 years hopefully.

    Really think Minny drafted well with Boldy but he's not been able to prove himself yet.... shades of Tuch as to how I feel he can impact this team. Unfortunate Fletcher traded our previous power forward away so stupidly

      Agreed, thankfully there won't be another expansion draft for a while 😅

    Caufeild hasn’t even played a rookie season yet, don’t be saying he is already better than zegras, when zegras actually has played a rookie season, and dach, I know caufield has a lot of potential, but dach has already played 2 NHL seasons

      Zegras also technically hasn’t played his rookie season. He’s Calder-eligible next season
