There have been some who think English music doesn't survive beyond the shores of Britannia. Well here we are in Portland Oregon where young Americans have rendered a majestic and impassioned performance of a piece of music which could only be English and it was and will only be radiantly beautiful. A celebration of Life with its joys and sorrows. Bravo to all you lovely people !
This piece is so evocative bringing great sadness to me because of the wasted lives from WW1. Owen, Sassoon, McCrae, Butterworth, and millions of others on both sides died for a cause almost no one remembers.
as an englishman living far from home for some 21 years this music touches my soul and all i left behind. the composer was killed in the battle of the somme in august 1916, the world was robbed of so much beautiful music
What a wonderful piece my great great uncle was in the Durham Light Infantry and was killed on the somme he is remembered in the pozieres cemetery near george butterworth who was also DLI what a composer he'd have been he had a friendship with Vaughan williams pre WW1 what could they achieve
A beautiful performance. One of the best I have heard. Banks of Green Willow is based on a Sussex Folk song and I live in Sussex in England. Beautiful!
Beautifully performed. Evocative of a peaceful English landscape. It does my heart good to see children working towards a worthwhile goal. Though it's sad George Butterworth died at such a young age..... what if he'd survived WW1? How much more beautiful, evocative music could he have produced?
Such beautiful joy to listen too & sitting back in your favorite chair...
Being enabled to be taken on a journey of some peacefully place...
Lovely piece of music kind of reminds me of an England that is long gone unfortunately and i wish would come back.

Sassoon survived the war and died in September 1967

Very nice
Sounds like England how you would imagine it
Jarre's piece building the barn, in the film Witness, has a similar for the first few bars.
Well he obviously stole it from Gorge Butterworth then didn't he!!
It's perfectly pleasant up until the 2:02 mark.
