    you said you are a new weaver, but boy, do you make interesting fabric :-)

    I love this! You are doing exactly the kind of rogue inclusions and floats I am most inspired to try! Well described too. Thanks very much.

    Oh my Pipyr, I love your weaving!!! Just learning how to weave. Your weaving is gorgeous and inspirational!!

    This was great. I have never known how supplemental warping works - I have been meaning to learn, but haven't gotten around to it yet. This makes it look pretty simple and thanks for the additional comment about the supplemental warp getting loose. I would have thought I was doing something wrong.

    Thank you! I am grateful for this, I really was confused. The inlay videos were fantastic too, very grateful.

    Thank you for this! Your explanations were really clear and I can't wait to try something similar. I appreciate you sharing the technique.

    If you dreamed this up, well done. If you did not, it would be cool to know where you got the idea. It is certainly a cool idea. Thanks!

      I don't check in here often but just saw this. I think there are weavers incorporating band weaving into cloth with cards/tablets and I'm sure there are others doing it with inkle weaving, but for me this was born from wanting to bring my inkle weaving into my floor loom work and experimenting until I figured it out. This is just the way I do it. I'm sure there are other ways :)

    Love this technique but I am such a novice. i am trying to figure out the threading sequence to work in the supplemental warp. I understand it is threaded on 3 and 4 and the base threads on 1 and 2. I just can't seem to figure out the sequence. Any help would be appreciated!

    When winding the warp, do you also include the white threads, and when threading through the reed, do you put two threads through the reed at that point? I can get the weaving of it okay but the setup is a little confusing, so can you let me know if the supplemental warp is entirely separate, and threaded by itself, or included in the original warp and threaded as usual with two threads going through at
    the point of the supplemental warp, hope I explained this so you know what I mean. Thanks

      I know this was from a long time ago but I'm just seeing it now. I figured I might as well answer now in case you or anyone else is still wondering! The white warp was created as its own separate entity. I warp front to back. I threaded the entire regular warp on shafts 1+2 as plain weave. First, I used 19 epi through the reed and then 1,2,1,2 through the heddles. I tied that on the back beam. Then, without winding on, I added the white warp where I wanted it to go. I also used 19 epi through the reed for this, right on top of the original warp that was already there. Then I did the pattern on shafts 3+4. I tied this on the back beam. Then I wound on. The white warp doesn't hold the same tension as the regular warp. It will loosen up as you weave. I used weights on it to keep the right tension. I hope that helps!!

    Nice explanation. I do have a couple of questions that I hope you can answer. I don’t have a supplemental beam either, so would I be winding both warps together and then be prepared to weight the supplemental as needed? Also, if my pattern also (sometimes) uses the same shafts as those of the ground cloth, do I thread the appropriate heddles with one of each warp thread?

    • @Pipyr
      @Pipyr  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I wound it all at once and then added weights to even the tension as they became necessary on the white threads. For your second question, the issue with that would be that every other pick would catch that thread, because 1 and 2 are used for plain weave across the whole surface. I think you either need separate shafts for the pattern (so a 6 shaft loom if you wanted plain weave and a 4 shaft pattern section) or you’ll have to do some pick up work. I’ve done a pick up pattern like that in the band, as I would in a regular inkle band, and it is definitely possible but rather slow! I would recommend starting with a 2 shaft inkle pattern first to get a feel for the mechanics of it and thread those on 3 and 4 and then decide if a pick up pattern is your next project :) I hope that helps!

    Do you have a separate supplemental back beam for the white supplemental warp?

    • @Pipyr
      @Pipyr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mention at the end that I weight it separately off the same back beam when it starts getting loose. I don't have a 2nd back beam :)

    Have you got a second back beam for this technic?

    • @Pipyr
      @Pipyr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      just one back beam, but weighted separately off the back

    How old is your loom? I am looking to buy one that is from 1986 a 36 inch 4 shaft

    • @Pipyr

      I know this question is old but in case anyone else is wondering, I think my loom is from the 70's. It's the only loom I still have and I just got it to my new home in Louisiana (from Maine). My favorite :)

    I'm very new to weaving. Is the band part the same as "band weaving"? Another way to ask, is supplemental warping another name for band weaving?

    • @Pipyr
      @Pipyr  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Band weaving is often done on an inkle or tablet or tape loom, which is a bit different. Usually band weaving refers to a warp-dominant weave. The supplemental section of this is similar, but not exactly the same. Band weaving is great fun too!!
