  • £5 Friday, a silly series where I take a look at interesting things you can pick up for £5 or less from the interwebs.
    Don't judge, this is just a bit of fun, I felt like I needed a change so I dragged this old thing out. I am sure you will have a hundred different uses form a module like this.
    Halloween decoration
    Proximity warning "Keep away from my stuff"
    Talking toys
    and about a million other things

    It turns out that 'Likes' and 'Shares' actually help the channel so, if you want to, please click the thumbs up or share the video.
    I don't have a Patreon or a donate thingy, I get by fine. That said, if you are mega rich and fancy donating something I would find useful they feel free to check out my Amazon wishlist (No pressure) - www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wish...
    If you want to get in contact Twitter is probably the best way @mrdavidjwatts

    This is hilarious - what a great video of learning how something works and showing all the normal mistakes we all do at times ( instead of editing them out) - so cool! Thanks for posting this

    I am going to have to try one of these. I've had the board sitting in my drawer for about a year. Thanks for sharing! Appreciated that you kept in the various screw ups/minor hiccups!

    I find it easier to solder cables on pinheaders on the backside, where there already is solderpaste.

    Actually if you remove the microphone and connect an audio input instead it works just fine, it can record what you playing into it.

    David, Great mate, I'm using these on my n scale train layout, one for each section eg; waterfall, sawmill, station etc. solder on a switch to the playl switch.

    i had a similar module as a kid - we used to play around with it, screaming and making weird noises. Good times.

    FT mode, when short FT jumper, that means all sounds to MIC will direct playback
    to Speaker.

    I've just found one of these units languishing in a draw. I have a use for it but there seems to be quite a lot of (not so) background noise on the recorder's playback. Is this normal, do you know, and can it be tamed? Enjoyed your video - thanks!

    Hi, is it possible to send a short sound effect to ISD1820 instead of recording with the microphone?

    Cool! If you press the PLAYE button again before the recorded audio has run its length, will it immediately start over? For example, could you do a rapid fire laser sound if you press the PLAYE button rapidly?

    Can I ask what pins you used to hook your power,my module looks very simaler,my speaker has a dedicated jack,and doesn't have the side switchs,but the rest is the same ,I notice you used 4.5 volts good to no,I just need to no what pins you used,I found the ground pin,did you hook up the plus to FCC.anyone please

      Simply connect to the VCC and GRD pins that are clearly marked on the board that you own. Everything you need to know will be listed on the webpage from where you purchased it.

    Hi, quick question. How do you change the batteries? I have this music box (not a traditional one, one with this module in it) and it won't play well, I think it's because of the battery but they are in this metal casing that I can't get into...

    • @DavidWatts
      @DavidWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, I haven't seen a setup like that before. It sounds like you will just need to replace the batteries, cutting it out potentially.

    It will soon be (or is already) a legal requirement in Europe to have some sound emanating from electric vehicles at very slow speeds. You mention speech recording but, presumably, a low frequency recording of a motor sound could be made.
    Also, would it be possible to tap into the PLAY switch to have a remote button on the vehicle dashboard? Thanks.

    • @DavidWatts
      @DavidWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure that sounds possible. The car running off 12v would be your biggest stumbling block. A playing card in the spokes worked well on my bike, we need a 2020 car version!

  • @SuperLittleTyke

    The battery box supplies 6 volts. Is that not too high for the board? With my ISD1820 I took 5V regulated power off a Basic Stamp board.

    • @DavidWatts
      @DavidWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those were NiMh cells, so would likely have been kicking out around 5-5.5v. The ISD1820 can run from up to 7v according to the datasheet but that is a maximum value, normal operation is stated as 2.7-4.5v.

      @@DavidWatts Thanks. What is the theory behind the Pringles tube that causes the volume to increase to such an extent? (Using the supplied speaker.) Could I use a small wooden box from e.g. thin plywood and cut a hole in it for the supplied speaker?

    • @DavidWatts
      @DavidWatts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it just increases the area that reverberates giving a louder base sound.

    I assume they were 4 x 1.5V batteries you used to give 6V, and it was ok? (Unit is rated 3-5V.)

    • @DavidWatts
      @DavidWatts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they were rechargeable batteries so 4.8-5.2v is a reasonable figure for them.
