  • This video shows how easy it is to replace diesel fuel filter for Volkswagen Sharan Mk2 (second generation 7N model) 2.0tdi engine.
    Manufacturer recommends after changing fuel filter, run secondary fuel pump to bleed system. That involves connecting VCDS software. These video describes how to change fuel filter in case, if you don't have that software.
    Here's description of what has been done:

    I agree. Thanks. If you research, diesel is quite viscous. Since you primed the filter and housing, this little bit of air is not running your pump "dry." It's only a moment, it is still lubricated.

      @@wawayltd No worries, done DSG fluid and filter now - for anyone else wondering, basically remove air box and battery box, filter is then easily accessible. Underneath, you need 14mm hex bit to undo gearbox sump plug, then 10mm hex to remove inner spout/level device. Drain it all out, then either buy expensive VW tool to put it back in via underneath, or use Amazon Measuring Funnel to put exactly 4.6 litres in the top. It's slow but works. Filter housing is only a shade over hand-tight and plastic, don't break it!

    I totally agree with you. Even if you used the software. It's just going to pump that air bubble to the high-pressure pump where it will stay until you start the car unless you are able to activate that pump also.

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I finally got myself VCDS, I didn't try it on this car yet, but I used on Skoda, it started as nothing happened, even if I left empty filter before priming.
      Both ways are good, you don't need to have software just for filter change. Software makes it slightly hassle free.

But now i have to do the disks and brake pads with epb so i guess i ll try to find a cheap VCDS to open the epb and even with next change of fuel could prime the fuel pump with it i guess just to be sure :D was a bit afraid. What is recommended mileage interval this diesel fuel filter should be replaced?

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      toyo toe Service schedule says, that it depends what kind of diesel standard is used (can be specified to the country) and varies from 5'000 to 60'000 miles :) TDI engines using diesel with high sulphur content 5000 miles, sulphur higher than 2000ppm (whatever that means :)) every 10'000 miles.. If diesel is up to standard DIN EN 590 - interval is 60'000. Here's info about UK standard:
      www.dieselnet.com/standards/eu/fuel_automotive.php
      I just change it every second or third oil service...

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mike Cain If you leave fuel filter empty with recent VW diesel engines, without priming, you're risking of not being able to start the engine, also potential damage to high-pressure pump. The way I've done it in this video, leaves no more bubbles as if you would prime it with VAG-COM. When I replaced fuel filter very first time, I left it half-empty and I was struggling to start the engine, but that was stupid and I don't advise you to do that, because high-pressure pump shouldn't run empty. Ever since I always replace fuel filter the way, as I showed in this video - never had any trouble, engine starts in 1 or 2 seconds :)

    • @wawayltd
      @wawayltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that VW produces their own clutches. If I'm not mistaken, some parts (like alternator, clutch, cambelt kit) are produced by companies that specialises on them. VW may stick their logo maybe... Anyway I may be wrong 😊
      In my experience LuK is a good brand for clutch, also very popular.
      And yes, every time I changed clutch, I replaced dual-mass flywheel too, because it was going bad first.

      I have read somewhere, that if air bubbles get into fuel rail/injectors, because of extremely high pressure, they can cause some damage.
      However, now with the experience, having changed many filters on many cars, I have been in situation, where filter was half empty or even completely empty. I don't think that air gaps will do any damage to fuel system. If they are too big, you may struggle to start the engine till gaps are filled, that's all.

      Hi Štefan! I don't think that getting rid of fuel from filter tank is necessary, it's just me - like perfection. My pump broke, so I just use hose and start it with mouth - still works.. I don't know where the bubble goes, it must have it's way. Now I have VCDS (vag com), so I leave filter completely empty, close it and then activate fuel pump with a computer. Where all that air goes, no idea, but it doesn't seem to give any trouble to the engine. This is video about doing it with VCDS:

      There are 2 fuel pumps. One is lower pressure, sitting inside a tank that delivers fuel to the filter. And another is sitting on cambelt - that's high pressure pump, it's after filter and it's making high pressure in fuel rail down to the injectors.
