Just subscribed to your ambient channel and had it on while doing some work - awesome! Would you *please* consider combining some of that with the hardware/rougher sounds of jungle? The "intelligent" style of d&b is healthier than ever but the beats are simple/clean (generally), while the new jungle crew are killing it but rarely do anything spaced out and ambient. If someone were to bring both styles together, it would be the holy grail! It's 2025 now, we can combine technologies to get the best of both worlds...
Hey, I tried using it on a master bus for some of my tracks, but it works better in my opinion when compressing individuals parts, in this case drum breaks. It adds a bit of a punch to the transients and make things sit better in the mix. But to be honest, the majority of my tracks were done without any compression at all.
Hey, thanks ! The QuadraVerb is connected to my mixing desk via sends / aux, and i always keep one and the same preset for all my tracks, unless i feel like i need something else. It is very simple situation.
I'd love to see you use an Akai Mpc One and see your methods on that, that's what I use these days, I'm not on your level by any means, I'm just a hobbyist bedroom dj/producer, but yeah, would love to see your work flow on it. I've had it a couple of years, I used to use a Yamaha Rs 7000. Either way, I love your knowledge and old school sound and techniques 🙏👌
Hey. Thanks for the comment. I don't own Akai Mpc One, and frankly I am not into new gear , especially MPC One. Wouldn't be my workflow for jungle stuff. I am so used to linear music writing , i can do so much more in terms of complex drum patterns, I wouldn't even know how to do that with the MPC. On the other hand, i would use the MPC for house / trip hop stuff , but I would go for the old version, perhaps the 2000XL just because it has a lovely sound. MPC One sounds just like every other digital DAW , doesn't have that oldschool vibe at all to me.
@IJOSoundVideo Hi, you're welcome, no worries, I wasn't exactly into new stuff myself, as I say, I used to use a Yamaha Rs 7000 which I've had since around 1999 and a Korg Emx-1 which I used to sample the synth of, it's got two old Russian vacuum tubes on it which it pushes the sound through for a nice analogue hit. I just wanted a new hardware sampler really and thought I'd try the Mpc One as I could get it monthly, but yeah I find I can't get the sort of more complex sounding jungle going, I think due to maybe programming limitations, as you say, you can get complex patterns going. I would have thought though that the sequencer, swing and vibe etc would have been the same on this as the mp xl series? Unless I'm mistaken, so the sound signature would be more or less the same I would have thought. Either way, thanks for your swift response 🙏
Great track that kind of sounds like nostalgic and futuristic at the same time! You‘ve got to love that timeless sound! How do you EQ and process your sounds? Is it all done on the mixing desk or do you use any vst / software processing?
Hey, thanks ! My processing is super basic and very simple. I don't do too much in software, other than sometimes just playing chords on vst synths and resampling them to Akai. But most of my chords come from micro korg. Once the sound hit the mixing desk from the Akai, I only use EQs on the mixing board. For mostly everything I use the 100Hz hi pass filter button (except bass), and adjust EQs the way I think is right :D Mostly for all my pads and FX sounds and vocals I cut the lows and mids and to be honest i mostly program my sampler in such a way, that i get the first 3 channels of breaks, where i adjust EQs gently, to taste and to make them sit together in the mix nicely, 4th channel is mostly 808 bass which i maybe cut the highs, and channels 4-8 mostly pads and other sounds, which i don't even touch the EQ that much, they always stay the same for every track :D And also the lexicon delay inside my mixing desk is always the same on every track. And Alesis Quadraverb reverb always the same on all tracks, i just adjust the sends / aux to taste and pretty much it.
@@IJOSoundVideo Thank you for your detailed answer! I love that simplicity that works great apparently. One can get carried away pretty fast with endless insert fx on a daw trying to polish a turd :D
@@jungaIized That is true. Computers have so many options, that at the end of the day, you're not making music, you're doing sound design :) And because of this, i never liked any of my music that much. With hardware, even though it may take a little longer to program the sampler, everything just kinda sounds right straight away. You can make an absolutely "wrong" mixdown, and it will still sound nice. My personal opinion. Limitations on the other hand allow tracks to breather, things have space in between. No need to polish everything as if you're doing pop track. I know a lot of younger generation prefer "new sound" but i don't like any of the new stuff at all. The thing with the modern sound is - everyone is using the same bits of software and plugins, and all the music end up sounding exactly the same.
what are the 2 breaks your layer together hotpants with amen some insight in to what break mix well with each other would be great and a break down of how its done please
Hot pants will work with anything :) Also sesame break, also known as helicopter break, will certainly work with anything. Also, Cold Sweat break, that i used in this tune, will work mostly with anything. You just have to try out different combinations for your self. I also like to use breaks that aren't "classic" that sometimes work as well.
Really enjoyed that as always! I was wondering, could you explain a little about how you use FX? I am not sure whether to sample the sound with FX, or to apply FX on the sample playback, or both perhaps? Thank you in advance! Big up ♥
It really depends on what you want. You can pre-process your samples before going into the Akai. And since all of my sources are mono anyway, i do add additional reverb / delay during the mixdown on my mixer to give it a bit of space. I sometimes pre-process my breaks with additional filtered parts, that i then chop in the sampler and use as many chops. As for pads and other sounds you can add reverb to make them feel a certain way, but as i have said - the Akai is a mono sampler (you can work with stereo, but that will cost you 2 channels) so it doesn't matter much. I like to add tape hiss to some of my samples before hitting the akai, so combining computer and hardware there are plenty of options for creating samples. You could simply do that in the box, but i like running my sounds through akai and analog mixing desk as it gives the overall mixdown a completely different feel and textures.
how are you geting the sounds from your sampler in to the computer via your fusion audio interface inputs ? then back out the 8 audio put on the other audio interface in to your mixer ?
No, i don't use everything all at once. The MINIFUSE is my main soundcard, but in this case i use it to send MIDI through it in to the Akai and other gear. Once i have my Akai S1000 programmed, i use its 8 outputs connected straight to the mixing desk, and i run the final 2 channel mixdown back to my computer via inserts on the MINIFUSE soundcard. When i am not using the AKAI but i still want to mix on the mixing desk, I then use my other Gigaport ESI soundcard to send 8 tracks from the DAW to the mixer and then the 2 channel stereo mixdown back in to the MINIFUSE :) If that makes sense.
GREAT! but zzzZZZzz try harder, listen to more jungle old AND modern jungle.. and its 2025 use a transient sharper screw compression "compression will give you spiky beats" (ed rush and optical).
This channel is so authentic, no shilling, none of the influencer garbage. Thank you for making real content, it's so meaningful.

This is wicked ❤

Great production. Classic, authentic 90s sound. Keep them coming
Thank you, will try making more.
Really cool track! Nice to listen to a non-amen tune for a change! Big ups 👊
Thanks ! Agree, i need to dive more in to a non-amen tunes.
Keeping the Jungle fire burning with more ruffness 🔥 👌🏾 Amazing work
Thank you !
I absolutely loved it! I'd also definitely categorize this as Jungle even without an amen break being present. Please make more of these :)
Thank you ! Will try :)
Loveee this track, one of my favorite I've heard from you! When those chords come in it's just such a vibe 😌👌
Yes, thank you ! These micro Korg chords are insanely great, i have got a whole library of such chords i made for my own use :)
sooo goood❤
Amazing stuff (as always) . Love your production style
Thank you, appreciate !
Wicked tune
Thanks !
