"Like forcing a kid to take their medicine" Let me start off by saying this is ABSOLUTELY my favorite and I can't wait to see what happens next. Sitting on the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens "tomorrow." Since that's likely when things change in one way or another. More importantly that line has me convinced he's going soft on us. As a kid I had this nasty perpetual cough that forced us to have to get prescribed kids cough syrup. I hated the taste (who doesn't) so my mom used a liquid syringe (one without a needle) to shoot the fluid into the back of my mouth. It wasn't a perfect delivery system but it got the job done. What I'm saying is Solomon could have done the same thing on the first day. After the panic attack he puts us to sleep, draws the blood, works on the new delivery method until we wake up. Bing bang boom done (and I bet his actual project is to make the anti immunity thing edible so he can poison the food supply.) He didn't. And don't think I missed that he didn't ask us about our immunity development when he had our trust, or explained what that had to do with the blood test when we asked. He's actively stalling. Buying time. Letting us sleep. and I think the looking in the mirror thing is more than metaphorical. That we have a physical resemblance to him. I think we're his Grandkid. Possibly from a lover he had while still human. Which would add more weight to the "making us take medicine to get better" line.
Slowly, the humans breathing evened. Panicked heart rate slowing ever so gently. It made it easier to focus. And then the chemical concoction reached a waiting stage, and Solomon had to find some other means of distracting himself from the issue at hand. Fill in paperwork. Check the various serums in progress. Check the human to make sure their arm was healing alright. He found himself staring at their face. Jaw tight. Brow furrowed. They were calm and "asleep." Drowsing might be the better word for it. Deliberately calming themselves to drift off. He'd heard them wake up and tune out again as he moved around. They were actually falling asleep now. Muscles easing into gentle slackness. Their back clearly not their preferred sleeping position but he couldn't help that even if he wanted to. The resemblance truly was uncanny. The hair and eye color came from him, and he could see a bit of his facial structure. The nose definitely belonged to his old love. There were other genetics at play of course. The hair texture was different and the eye shape was new. And the blood test- "Get it together Solomon," He moved back to the serum in progress. The first gene therapies were aerosolized. Having them sit and inhale would be a much easier method of delivery and could be spread easily. Just have them installed in every buildings air conditioning. The immune would never have a chance, and he'd win. The fight would be over. Everyone would go about their lives without a care in the world. His Grandkid could be happy. Free. Blissfully unaware. At the mercy of any vampire cruel enough. He started mixing chemicals again, growling to himself. "Get it together what are the odds of that?" His immunity would be passed along his bloodline. He measured out parts of the two solutions and started mixing them together. This particular conflict was more annoying than usual. On the one hand he wanted to give them the serum. Pat them on the head and send them back to life in the human world. On the other he wanted to undo the restraints, hold them close and tell them who they were. Stick them in some safe corner where he could keep an eye on them while maintaining his facade. But that would give Liza more leverage. A sharper weapon than the one she cut him with. What was worse? For them to be blissfully unaware and unprotected from the danger around them? Or for the danger to be more certain but known? He ran final checks on the completed serum sample. Test spraying it in an isolated corner of the lab. The virus survived long enough in the open air to be passed. Like the blood draw the human didn't need to be awake for this part of the process. He plugged the serum into the aerosolizer and walked the mask over to the sleeping form. A few hours of breathing this in and it would all be over. They'd go back to their normal life. He'd never see them again. Maybe he'd even be able to work on other projects. Wouldn't that be nice. He was holding the mask at his side. Put it on their face. Get it over with. He held the mask above their face. Ready to slip the strap behind their head. In. Out. Slow, steady breathing. Even in sleep they didn't look truly relaxed. Compared to the forced, drug induced sleep- That forced them to be helpless. Scared on a primal level. He knew both feelings all too well. Solomon pulled back. Hung the mask on it's hook. He could always say the serum was taking longer than expected. Scouts Honor. Is it just me or does the 70 year thing seem important.
the funny thing about the listener character in this is that their entire experience growing up was basically an exaggerated form of my own. As a queer autistic, i've literally never been able to fit in even back when i *did* try. It was a forgone conclusion that i wouldn't be able to fit in. So what i did is decide that, yeah, the rest of the world is wrong. Not necessarily wrong in how they handle themselves, but in forcing conformity. So like, it's not even that different from my lived experiences lol

The "boo" caught me and I am ASHAMED. The audio mixing is (despite my own physical issues) PHENOMENAL, honey--you really knocked it out of the park!! I'm so proud aughhhhh 😭😭 The ambience is incredible. There's so many layers and nuances for Solomon, and while there was already some cheeky lore, it's so nice to hear you being in this character, but now I feel bad he had to deal with being shaken down over his methods 😭😭
