    OH BOY HERE WE GO.
Yeah, the tutorial sucks. I'm sorry that you had to witness that tutorial. I'm sorry that I will give you a list of tips, but you WILL thank me for this.
    1) On the first map, Mosquito Lake, float fishing and bottom fishing is a lot better than spin fishing. The opposite is true for the next map you unlock.
    2) When you got a fish on you should keep the right mouse button pressed instead of just gently tapping it. The pike was so hard to reel in because you didn't do that. Fish do tire and you can have insane fights with them. You can also move further inland and drag the fish onto the land if that's what you choose to do. The road's angles also determine the line's tension.
    3) There are 3 types of tension in the game:
    - green: let's you reel in the fish
    - orange: the fish is fighting and you can't real it in, here you need to keep the RMB pressed and increase the friction accordingly
    - red: this is bad, here the fish does tire a bit more easily but it also damages the road and if it fills up the whole bar then your rod gets destroyed
    4) The little white circle around the line symbol actually shows how much line you have left. If you get out of line the tensions fills up and your rod will get destroyed.
    5) You can change the reeling-in speed, hook depth for float setups, friction, etc. Just check the controls to see how to do that.
    6) If you get snagged (which only really happens if your hook goes through lilly pads or logs), just press ESC, keep SHIFT press down while clicking the EXIT button on the main menu. This way you will be logged out and then you can just log in (no password or anything so don't worry) and your position will be reset and all will be good.
    7) FOCUS ON THE CAFE ORDERS! That's the best way to make money. You should only sell the fish when their freshness is low and you haven't managed to complete any cafe orders.
    8) If you follow the main road you will see a bridge, if you cross it you can find your house, taxidermist and most importantly, the administration building. Here you can buy a map (very useful) and get new spin and float tackle if your stuff got destroyed.
    9) Fish have a multitude of behaviours they can exhibit while biting at float or bottom setups. So you will have a lot of misses at first but if you are smart you'll figure it out fairly easily.
    10) If you want to target certain fish you should adjust hook sizes (they are not as restrictive as on theAngler, you can have big fish bite on tiny hooks, it's just rarer and it depends on the species which hook sizes they prefer.) Here on mosquito lake you should mainly use 22 up to 8 in terms of hook size, but a bit smaller or bigger also works. Another thing you should pay attention to is bait. You can experiment a lot to see what baits fish prefer. You can also check the leaderboards and study what baits and lures people used.
    11) Try experimenting and be as cheap as possible with your solutions. Wet bread and worms are good starter baits and are easy to make. Wet bread can be crafted from bread you just buy at the grocery store. Worms you will be able to get easily soon after you buy the shovel. You should also opt for just getting free food at the "hot food" building as opposed to buying some yourself. You get it once a day and it fully fills you up. You don't die from hunger, but in order to replenish you energy after a fight you will need to have something in your food bar.
    12) If you keep the LMB pressed down longer when casting out you can get a super cast if you have enough energy.
Now, I know this was a fairly long read, BUT you should try to internalize this and keep it in mind, since it will move the series along very well. Russian Fishing 4 is a grind only if you want to get everything in the game. You can have plenty of fun just playing more casually. I am a more "casual" player and also never spent any money in this game (though I might in the future just to support the devs). But yeah, if you didn't understand something you can ask me or anyone else in the comments who might very well be a lot more knowledgeable than I am.

its odd that the previous tutorial was more detailed, telling you how to adjust retrieve speed, making you buy a loaf of bread and how to make that into wet bread to get you going in harvesting. With the pike in the tutorial, a simple pop-up to advise about using the scroll wheel to adjust the friction brake would get a new player familiar with one of the important fundamentals.

@@600f4 yeah, this tutorial really sucks. I just hope that he keeps the tips I gave in mind so we can see a longer series on this game. This could turn out like with classic where there are well over 100 episodes.

Although hard to understand, it's far more realistic and immersive than the pathetic attempt at a fishing game, theAngler, which resembles nothing about real life fishing.

yeah, being able to open your reel's bale arm and let the line spill off as your float drifts downstream, just isn't on the radar of other fishing games

90 to 120 minutes game time max, the standard for a youtube content maker. He won't even scratch the surface of the game.

      55 episodes later lol

@@jmullentech Yes he ploughed on but he still barely scratched the surface as someone predicted. Many of his sessions had wasted time with him trying remember what he did the week before. A normal new player would not have played like this, just allocating 50 minutes a week to a game and refusing to get involved in any way with the community.
He may as well have given up after maybe a few weeks, he never got the grasp of the game even after 30 hours.

@@600f4 Actually a really fair point. I watched a couple episodes and have to agree :/
