Very nice. I like your quick release mechanism.
One suggestion to make it simpler. Instead of cutting a slot in the steel and welding in half a nut you could have drilled and threaded a hole. Then just drill a larger hole that cuts into the threaded one. This would give the same result but with less steps.
I like your design and will copy it.
