    Think about this.... From 1991-2003 the only NBA Champions were as follows.
    Jordan's Bulls
    Hakeem's Rockets
    Duncan's Spurs
    Shaq's Lakers
    The Jazz faced all of them during their finals runs in 97-98. The NBA was a gauntlet back then!

    Sad thing is that Stockton was 36 when the Jazz finally afforded the role players needed to send the Jazz to the Finals. Yet even then, the Jazz went through a gauntlet in the West during those Playoffs runs. The Jazz teams that got to the NBA Finals beat Shaq and a young Kobe's Lakers, Duncan and Robinson's Spurs and the Rockets with Olajuwon, Drexler and Barkley to get there. The Jazz lost in the Finals twice to the Bulls. The second time the Jazz had the best record in the League and swept the Lakers while the Bulls went 7 games with Reggie Miller's Indiana team in the East Finals. The Jazz waited for 11 days to play and were rusty.
    There isn't enough footage when Stockton was young but he was unbelievable. I had season tickets back then. But in 1987, 1988 and 1989, when the Jazz didn't have enough balance on the roster, Stockton averaged over 17 points and 14 assists in those seasons. And despite the Lakers winning all those NBA Titles in those years, the Jazz took the back to back Lakers Teams to 7 games. If not for a last second shot by the Lakers, the Jazz might have gotten to the Finals in that season. Stockton had 23 points and 24 assists in game 5.
    The Jazz also lost to the Sonics in the closing seconds of Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals in 1996 or the Jazz would have faced the Bulls 3 straight times in the NBA Finals. Stockton stared off into the aether on the tarmac (steaming/pissed) while the team was waiting in the airplane after that loss in Game 7 up in Seattle. The Jazz made the Western Conference Finals in 1992, 1994 and 1996 before getting to the NBA Finals in 1997 and 1998 when Stockton was past his prime.

      the lakers in the 90s were not ready you said it yourself baby afro kobe was not yet the mamba till the 2000s . the jazz had the experience that the lakers didnt have neither did the ''rookie'' duncan spurs . jazz should have won and the 80s jazz with that 7foot monster eaton was a better team than the 90s jazz version . ostertag was a bum whatever his name was lol. see back then you could be a 7fooft bum because of your size with no skills but in this era bigs are required to be more skilled and not just a big waste of size

    I watched it live on TV, and wow was that a moment of clutch. After hitting that game winning 3, Stockton may have jumped high enough to actually dunk! O_O The pure emotion on the face of the normally stoic Stockton was such a joy to see.
    Just as he was a score-first PG in college, he could definitely take over the game scoring-wise when called upon to do so. With a more conservative offense-defense first coach in Jerry Sloan, he didn't really develop into much of a scorer in the Jazz system, but with his efficiency and craftiness, he could have easily have been Nash's equal offensively while still being all-defense on the other end. Really, Stockton was better than Nash but had so much more depth of MVP-level players... not even including Jordan or Malone. What an era!

      @@KingThomas150 agreed. The Rockets won back to back Titles when Jordan was playing baseball. Then they added Barkley and the Jazz finally beat them. But it was too late, Jordan was back by then. But the Rockets beat the Jazz in the playoffs when Jordan was out of the league. @gabrielaacevedo8971 Rockets should have faced the Bulls in 1998 to advance to the Finals. Just crazy how we couldn't get Hakeem and Jordan in 97 and 98.
      Rockets had a better chance in 1998 if they had beaten the Jazz. Lakers were inexperienced and Rockets would have beaten them like Hakeem did to Shaq.
      That's the only thing I don't like about the Bulls 2nd 3 peat run. They faced Utah twice. Should have been once and the Rockets after they played the Sonics.

      @@Melbester9 I’m tired of the excuse people use for the Rockets for being old cause the 97 & 98 Bulls & Jazz team were old too. The Rockets was that one team that could’ve challenged the Bulls with the firepower they had but they didn’t get the job done.
      I have nothing against MJ but I hate that his legacy is untouchable & invincible where their was no team in his path to stop him from winning chips. If MJ & the Bulls faced the 97 & 98 Rockets with Hakeem, Barkley and Drexler and the Bulls end up beating the Rockets in the Finals the narrative of MJ would be better.
      The narrative would be MJ beat a superteam and now Lebron lost to superteams with the KD Warriors but the arguments become not in favor of MJ when it comes to competition due to MJ not facing a team on that super elite level.
      And that’s why I hate how the Rockets failed cause that was one of the few teams that could’ve challenged the Bulls with the star power they had and they didn’t succeed

He might not be as athletic and flashy as Harden or AI, but the dude is the best pure PG to ever play the game. Not to mention he is the all time assists leader by a long shot and the all time steals leader, so an elite defender as well as great offensive player. • @eazyduzit-tr3nx
      @eazyduzit-tr3nx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Waveface killah
      Naw I mean their last ring was in 94-95, Chuck didn’t join them until after the 95-96 season, they didn’t even reach the WCF that yr they got swept. So yea it wasn’t “he joined them after winning back to back titles”.
      “Off the charts” is pushing it. Drexler only played 52 games and shot 43%, which was the 3rd lowest of his career, right after 93 & 94 seasons. He also shot 42% in the playoffs and averaged 16.6 ppg which was his lowest since his rookie yr. Hakeem was still productive but Chuck prior to joining them was struggling with injuries real bad and still was with Houston. So at the time their names together made it more intriguing and it was great to see on paper but everybody knew they weren’t in their prime anymore.

      That was a Superteam. They were supposed to knock off the Bulls, or at least be stiff comp.
      This "washed up" Narrative only began after Malone and Stockton eliminated them.

    • @eazyduzit-tr3nx
      @eazyduzit-tr3nx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morten Potzdidler
      Hakeem was still an elite player, which I said. Barkley though was battling injuries, it’s no surprise he retired soon after that team. Drexler was ok but he definitely wasn’t the old Drexler. Point is they weren’t in their prime as a “superteam”, everybody at that time knew they were older and dealing with injuries. That team doesn’t come close to what LBJ had twice, he either had all stars in their prime or young all stars. Rockets had two 34 yr olds and a 33 yr who was mainly battling injuries as their best core.
