This is the sister of Ben Stowers, and I wanted to say tank you for everyone’s kind comments about the late Ben Stowers and Aubrey Martin. I hope their lives inspire others to create ripples of music and kindness in this world
apparently both the soprano sax player, Aubrey Martin, and the bass sax player, Ben Stowers, sadly passed away in 2018 and 2022 respectively, may they both rest in peace, and damn they were amazing musicians, wish I had a fraction of their skills
I apologize at the outset if my English isn't the best, I'm Italian, I'm 16, soon to be 17 and I'm becoming passionate about jazz and as a child I always played the saxophone so my dream is 👇@@katiestowers716
This is like going back in time and hearing jazz from the 30's as if it were recorded with the latest modern sound equipment! How marvelous. You have the idiom of the period down pat.
Way too many big bands have this contemporary "sheen" to them, usually coming from the rhythm section, but this band has the style DOWN. Rarely am I so transported, but this is one of those videos.
I'll never forget sitting there SCREAMING during Aubrey's solo! Miss him and Ben dearly, if you think they sounded great they were even better as friends!
Amazing, what a great ensemble. The joy of the musicians, the camaraderie in the band, the skills of each member, the swing and energy made it a pleasure to watch.
2:10 Is referencing Things To Come. This band plays Things to Come, in the same key relative to the chord at 2:10, so the sax player knows it'll fit. Very clever
Every band, EVERY BAND, should be listening to, and playing, this music. This is where it starts. Duke Ellington, King Oliver, Sidney Bichet, Jelly Roll Morton. Such important lessons to be learned from the Roots of jazz
Insane!!!!!!! Those TJI kids are some of the nicest I've met too. Many of the bands can be very cocky and rude, but not TJI. Great kids and great music!!!!
The Superlative Presentation of the members of TUC Jazz Institute belies their youth. Ladies and gentlemen, this is "Organic Real Jazz" - to the Nth degree of surrealistic greatness. The soprano saxophone solo reminisces - - - no, not John Coltrane but Sidney Bechet and Zoot Sims, especially in tonal quality. Had I the green, off I would have gone and purchased a baritone saxophone after hearing that youngster's magnificence. And the young damsel with trumpet in hand is melodically smooth and tonally appealing. Orchestral Output: 5:5* Thanks for posting!
The only way these young talented musicians could play this piece so accurately is to listen to the record over and over again and it'd obvious they did just that. When it comes to playing these old arrangements you have to study the recordings. The notes on the paper is only half the story, concept is what really counts and this group is as accurate as could be.
Ooooo, don't know if it was the sound mixing or not but it sounded like the brass section clunked out near the end there... regardless, sweet performance and solos!
Rhythmic Driving Superb tempo,. Great stuff I did have what I recognise is a bit of an odd response. In the light of the pulse of the music I thought the trumpeter might have done a little hop or a strut as she returned to her place.
Wesley Gibson I’ve listened to so much Essentially Ellington stuff and I gotta say he was the best player I’ve ever seen go through that program, man if I even had a fraction of the talent he had, so good😊

How did they pass
@@shoring7709 their families didnt want to publicly share the reason, best to keep it private
Hello, this is Ben’s sister. Both passed by suicide. Please make sure you and your loved ones take care of your mental health as well as physical.
@@katiestowers716I pray for your family I hope you guys are doing alright may he rest in peace.

One of our favorites. Amazing what you can do with a $25 banjo and bass saxophone found at a garage sale!
No way, really!?
yep looks like a old Harmony
EDIT: it is a Harmony
bass saxophone
More like $10,000 bass saxophone.
swiskowski more like 25000
Imagine missing that last note
I actually paused before the last note and BRUH that hurts
PLUS, it’s hard to play a low Bb on a bass sax so what a trooper for Ben Stowers to nail it :)
Rest In Peace. Aubrey Martin. (Soprano Soloist)
What happened?
@@jeremyave7200 my condolences
You're lying wtf. I'm so sorry to hear. He was amazing omg
no way that's so sad. he was great :'(
How’d he pass ? What an amazing musician and he looked like an even better person. Rest In Peace Aubrey 🤍

his solo has a slight Sidney Bechet accent. i love this
Yeah it’s killin! His tone is amazing. The cool thing is that he can play in all different styles!!!

I CANT STOP LISTENING TO THE SOPRANO SOLO
Jacksonthesax me either bro! It’s amazing, one of the best soprano solos I’ve ever heard. He uses quotes and melodic lines to create a masterpiece🤟😎
It's so good
Its really good too bad he didnt write it

josiah566 it's because they only play dixieland jazz and traditional jazz. no new styles like funk, latin, or anything of the sorts
This rendition reminds me of the closing scene of the movie “The Cotton Club”.
I'll never forget sitting there SCREAMING during Aubrey's solo! Miss him and Ben dearly, if you think they sounded great they were even better as friends!
I got chills during the trumpet solo
Wow! That's all i can say about this performance. I spent 20 minutes just listening to the solos! Amazing performance all around.
I can't stop watching, listening, and smiling.
So good to see young people interested in jazz. Keep it going - you are the hope for the future of this genre.
Always nice to have this video up to see and hear Aubrey again
You guys are incredible. Thanks for 4 Minutes dancing and smiling in my livingroom
I just transcribed Aubrey’s solo on soprano. He was such an amazing player dude I really wish I got to meet him. Rest in peace
Duke Ellington would smile with approval at the young talent in this great little band.
Amazing, what a great ensemble. The joy of the musicians, the camaraderie in the band, the skills of each member, the swing and energy made it a pleasure to watch.
Rest In Peace Ben Stowers 💔🕊

Soprano and trumpet players are esp good. Great group.
WOW -- Great presentation, director & musicians
Something that people might not have known is that this group had won the previous 2 years of EE, no wonder they were so good
splendid, especialy the sax section.
EXCELLENT !

Magnifique !! J'adore !!!
와우! 훌륭한 연주 잘 감상했습니다.
Beautiful so much energy !
When you think your high school and is good but then you watch this. They even have it memorized
As a Bari sax alto and soprano player , I'm jealous of that soprano player
I heard “things to come” in that soprano solo
These kids are tops! Amazing!
Kids did a great job on this.
One of my favorites
2:11 he quotes some of things to come
I guess you could say it was a sign of... “things to come” (they played that song after this)
love the trumpet and sax solo.
that trombonists side burns gives me life
Yes sir! Awesome stuff y’all.
Ooooo, don't know if it was the sound mixing or not but it sounded like the brass section clunked out near the end there... regardless, sweet performance and solos!

.....no sheet music!......HOW!?
+No Future00 practice practice practice
It IS jazz
its not that hard to memorize sheet music
No Future00 head arrangements , ?
This is why I love going to tji
Did the bari player reference the Mexican hat dance??!!!
These kids got chops.
lovely.
just Wonderful!
The last note is the most important
is there a cap for how many ensemble members there can be on the stage at once? why only 2 trombones?
+Jeremy Horn The original score (which they are playing) only has two trombone parts. Pro Jazz Ensembles rarely double parts :)
thank you
That soprano solo 😀😀😀😀
This soprano vs pacif jazz crew (american music program) clarinet.?
That was great
No cap, the girl on trumpet was the best solo
why is the bari player playing 2nd alto's alto?
2:10 Things To Come
yes
Is this a high school band?!
yep . . . a "conglomerate" band composed of kids from the Tucson area
Yeah, I know right!!
Shoutout to the banjo player
How old are these kids? ?? ?
High school
High school
Nice
Good
that sounds more like Charleston! :D
I really hope that soprano solo isn’t improv because if it is
then I’ve failed as a musician.
It is. Aubrey was a very very very very talented saxophone. R.I.P
Wesley Gibson I’ve listened to so much Essentially Ellington stuff and I gotta say he was the best player I’ve ever seen go through that program, man if I even had a fraction of the talent he had, so good😊
The Silent Musician He would of been the next Bird. Such a tragedy to lose such a great player
Damn with no sheet music
