My company recently had to design USB-chargers for special industrial application and I've read the USB specification a bit, especially when it comes to charging phones. I think I can clear things up a bit. First of all: both dedicated chargers and your computer deliver 5V on USB (there are some rare 20V chargers but those are not mainstream yet). There is no thing such as a low-voltage USB-Port. The reason your phone charges slower on a PC is simple: your phone detects it's connected to a PC and limits the power draw to 500mA (effectively making it a 5V*0.5A = 2.5W charger). If your PC fails at communicating with the iPhone, this power is limited to the even lower 100mA current, hence why a broken cable could still charge, but only slowly. Every phone that wants to comply with the USB standard is doing this in order to protect the port it's charging from. Second: I have no clue what you're trying to say here, but although the cable was meant to carry around 5V, it can probably carry around 1kV. Cables usually don't fail unless you crazily overvolt them or put them under harsh physical stress. It could have been the failing part here, but because he was using another cable to prove it wasn't charging means that the iPhone must have gotten some of that high voltage. Third: I never heard of dedicated data cables for mobile phones, especially lower voltage ones, because the only thing that usually changes is the CURRENT. I have a feeling you have no clue what you're talking about. +Frankie Williams is probably right, something inside the iPhone most likely fried. It could be contacts (solder melting, pin corrosion) or a semiconductor (e.g. protection diode) failing.
voltage doesn´t have anything to do with charging speed.how fast something charges depends solely on the current supplied by the charger.and there is no such thing as 5v cable(have you ever seen how usb to [another type of usb] looks like inside? it´s just a few wires going from one conector to the other one)the amount of current and voltage a cable can transfer is limited only by its size-smaller cable will melt at lower currents than a bigger one.and btw i also grew up in modern age

that was not the case for apple, i had bought a imac, it broke when i open the packaging the screen drop off, bring to apple service centre only said i void the warranty so i can't fix for free, but i haven't even use once. there another case whereby i won a lucky draw with my friend both of us got an iphone 6 free redeem at official apple shop, again got a problem set, this iphone has a bloody red screen appearing and there some sparks at the lighting port when it turn on and it does not allow me to see the home screen and it getting hotter and hotter the screen get more bloody red b4 it turn off. it may expolde if i charge it, luckly i notice there spark at lighting port when it is turun on. the spark went off when the apple logoappear then the blood red screen. my friend had the problem as well so we went to the service centre. apple check and only said u need to pay to fix the phone as u jailbreak it, but we didn't jailbreak them so therefore i hate apple and won't use it again. u can get faulty phone/devices if the service is bad it is just unforgiving.

The funniest thing to take away from all of this, from my perspective as an Apple hater, is that the Note 7 actually worked 100% after the usb killer while on the iPhone the port was broken.
Guess Samsung makes their usb connector sturdier and safer than Apple does...

that was not the case for apple, i had bought a imac, it broke when i open the packaging the screen drop off, bring to apple service centre only said i void the warranty so i can't fix for free, but i haven't even use once. there another case whereby i won a lucky draw with my friend both of us got an iphone 6 free redeem at official apple shop, again got a problem set, this iphone has a bloody red screen appearing and there some sparks at the lighting port when it turn on and it does not allow me to see the home screen and it getting hotter and hotter the screen get more bloody red b4 it turn off. it may expolde if i charge it, luckly i notice there spark at lighting port when it is turun on. the spark went off when the apple logoappear then the blood red screen. my friend had the problem as well so we went to the service centre. apple check and only said u need to pay to fix the phone as u jailbreak it, but we didn't jailbreak them
so therefore i hate apple and won't use it again. u can get faulty phone/devices if the service is bad it is just unforgiving.
