I had to listen to this one a few times. Your sound is simply killer. And yes, it's killer both in and out of context of the song! That's a keeper for sure.
I have a '56 Goldtop Reissue and I absolutely adore the stock pickups. I opted for the '56 model because I definitely wanted an ABR-1 bridge and stopbar tailpiece. Justin, I love watching you play your Goldtop because (first of all, I like your playing style, but also) it inspires me to pick mine up make some cool, similar sounds. Whenever i see that you've posted a video with your goldtop in it, i make sure i watch it just because you give me ideas for my own playing. Thanks for the inspiration!
Another cool video -- I get several new sonic ideas with every one and I go back through the old videos as well to get playing ideas to emulate. My rig is what it is (in the short term) and it sounds pretty good. Incrementally better as new pieces come along. But it's your playing that helps my sound the most. Cheers.
Throbak makes excellent stuff. I no longer have any of their pedals, but i do have a set of pickups in my lp, and theyre awesome. I took a 19 lp classic and replaced all the hardware to more 50s correct material and throbak pickups and its about as close to vintage proper lp tone as youre going to get for under $5k. The customer service is great too. If you have questions theyll spend the time with you.
Cool video Justin, nice workout on that OD. So many out there it’s great to have a player like yourself run them down and provide good food for thought. As a rule for me anything will better once a P90 appears- great job bro
Justin another superb video! You alway have the best tone, so dynamic and harmonically rich, and then of course the amazing playing 👍🏾 Really appreciate all this in-depth content where you ready take your time to explain and give us details. Thank you sir!!!
My man this sounds absolutely amazing! I actually discovered the Overdrive Boost from one of your videos a little bit ago and I love it. But I could run the Overdrive Boost with a tape delay (usually a Volante or Belle Epoch Deluxe) with a P90 guitar and cover everything I need. Keep up the awesome videos!
I'm not saying Throbak stuff isnt good, but it is outrageously priced. I remember the first time I saw their PAF clones recommended then I saw the cost lol.
Yeah, it's not cheap. But very much well worth the price of admission. I had some early 60s PAF clones in an SG a looooong time ago. They were awesome, too.
Their stuff is expensive for sure but it is incredible and legit. Fortunately i got my throbak pafs and ron ellis tele pickups wayy before the price increases (which I respect, its so difficult to manufacture stuff these day n age)
@JustinOstrander I've got Wolfetone humbuckers in both my SGs, which I'm sure someone else would say were too expensive. They're very good and Wolfe is a good guy to deal with.
Old drummer here I have a CB 700 free floating maple/copper shell. I bought in 1985 and it’s still my primary one. Probably getting a salt snare this year
This is an awesome sounding pedal! I have a clone of a Fulltone Fulldrive Mosfet 2 (Caline Crazy Cacti) and when you crank the boost on the mosfet stage, it kind of has that not-Big-Muff fuzz tone like you were demoing here. I gotta dig that pedal back out now!
Great video Justin. Have been checking these out on Reverb ever since I have heard you talk about it. You may be responsible for the prices going up. :)
Hi Justin, are there any particular tracks that you've studied that have taught you allot about writing great guitar parts and layering in a way that most serves the song? Thanks
Justin, off topic question, but I’m curious… on any typical week, what percentage of your time is spent at another studio, rather than your home studio? Thanks!
Yo Justin - I lucked out on a set of SLE 101's buckers in a 335 I got second hand... alnico 2's, so so SO sweet, exceeded the hype for mine (somewhat relieved I didn't have to front the cash tho lol)
Good morning, that overdrive pedal sounds interesting. I can’t seem to find any info on what power supply is needed or how much power it draws. Do you have the specs available? Thanks. Your videos are awesome.
Man, can you talk about that speaker? I am looking for a replacement speaker for my Fender Deluxe amps and I am not a fan of Celestion Vintage 30's Why do you like that Warehouse speaker?
I’m impressed how quiet those pickups seem running into that much distortion, my p90 guitar does not like gain pedals Edit: okay got to the part where he went higher gain and that’s sounding more familiar to my stuff lol
Yeah, when I use those higher gain tones, I usually back way up away from the computer, and it helps a lot. It’s all very manageable with a volume pedal or tuner you can use to mute when you’re not playing.
There isn’t a pickup on the planet worth what they charge. It’s not rocket science or magic fairy dust. Lindy Fralin & Lollar make pickups every bit as good, if not better, at a far more reasonable price.
When you match the right guitar and the right pickups, it’s a beautiful thing. If you’re going for value for your dollar, Seth Lovers are great. I have Throbaks in the goldtop, Tom Holmes in the 335, Fralins in the Novo, Lollars in the Senn Strat, vintage Gibsons in the LP Custom, Leonards in the Jazzmaster. They’re all killer.
Just got my “If you know, you know” cup. Stoked! Thanks for the many lessons Justin.

Been using DT102s in my Paul and OD Boost forever. Love’em, the Fuzz haze is great too
Love that attenuated tone,
reverb combined is so unique

A gold top…keeps calling my name. Used to hate them AND p90’s simply for the look. Now I love them….both for the look🤷🏻♂️
Great vid as always🌻
Those chords at the end were the stuff that HIT RECORDINGS are made of .
Mr. Ostrander...you are a rad man. Thank you for all these videos and the inspiration

very cool Justin sounding great ! have some of John's SLE-101 PAF's in an LP really good !
Sounds really good!
Fantastic playing and tone man. Exactly what p90's should be.

@@CharlesWillisBonsai I've heard their p90s are really good as well
This and the V1 RC Booster are desert island pedals. Love it dude
50,000 Subs! Congrats bro !!
Old drummer here
I have a CB 700 free floating maple/copper shell. I bought in 1985 and it’s still my primary one.
Probably getting a salt snare this year
Nothing wrong with that old stuff

I have been using the Overdriver/Boost for a while now and I also dig how it stacks with other drives after it!
Yep
Amazing tones…fuzzed out its so harmonically rich.
Super helpful. Thanks!
Hey Justin
At the 17:00 mark you were getting into the Billy Gibbons tones. Nice on a p90 style guitar too.
That neck pickup! 😎
Have you ever checked out a lovepedal COT50 or a Tchula?
Off topic but where do you bring your amps for service? Looking for a reliable repair shop and there have got to be some good ones in Nashville.
Nashville amp repair
Had no idea they made pedals also, awesome video!

Justin, off topic question, but I’m curious… on any typical week, what percentage of your time is spent at another studio, rather than your home studio? Thanks!
Oh, probably spend more time at other studios overall. Maybe 70/30?

Sounds great, you can cover a lot of ground with that.
It looks like you put another DIY-ish tube amp on the top shelf of your amp rack. Do you mind sharing what those are?
That’s an AC15 circuit with vintage transformers cobbled together from a couple of different non-working amps. It sounds really cool

Sounds great with a battery, but it will take a standard 9v tap with center negative.
@@JustinOstranderThanks for your reply.
Just ordered one through your link.

I don’t like v30s, either. The ET65 is warehouse’s take on the g12-65. It’s smoother, clear with a nice breakup. I have it in so many cabs.
I’m impressed how quiet those pickups seem running into that much distortion, my p90 guitar does not like gain pedals

Does that Goldtop have treble bleed in it, or is it just 50's wiring?
Stock Gibson wiring. So I would assume 50s style. It is a Wildwood ‘55 reissue from 2005 or 2006.
What a fantastic video have a wonderful day Justin also do you have regrets when looking back in life ❤😊
That guitar and, of course, your fabulous playing sound great with that pedal. But, to my ears, they sound fantastic without it. Just my opinion.
Thanks a ton!
Hey Justin - which Throwback PAFs would you prefer for a Les Paul? Which are a bit brighter- I’m not a fan of the muffled sounds
DT102s
