- During the "Broadway For Hillary" fundraiser for the Democratic presidential nominee Monday night, actress and fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker sang "Tomorrow" from the hit musical, "Annie," a role she played in her youth before she became Carrie Bradshaw. Andrea McArdle, the original Annie, is the woman singing with Sarah Jessica Parker.
CBS news should have acknowledged that!
Actually she is not the original. Kristen Vigard was but she was replaced by Andrea McArdle, who had been playing an orphan, after a week.
Andrea should be ACKNOWLEDGED! The best Annie ever!
@Jason Smith McCardle is the original Broadway Annie. She is the Annie who opened the show as we know it, after it had its own out of town try outs and the show was rewritten and reshaped. She is the original in the sense that she originated the role and show as we know it today
@jasonsmith8300 well actually andrea mcardle is the original annie. Kristen was only in a few performances while it was still in previews so she doesn't count because she technically didn't originate the role on Broadway
Boy Andrea was not gonna let Sarah upstage her! LoL. She just kept singing louder.
I think that was probably planned and SJP was most likely more than happy allowing Andrea to vocally overpower her. Sarah-J was the third broadway Annie, but has never really considered herself much of a singer and very hard work and dedication to that role as a kid propelled her to stardom as an adult. Andrea was the original Broadway Annie and has always had that phenomenal singing voice. She continued working in musical theater throughout adulthood and kept using her voice whereas SJP never really did much singing after Annie.

@@marypatb22 You are correct and it be interesting to hear her voice singing the songs but IMO Andrea has one of the best voices on Broadway. It’s sad she hasn’t gotten more staring roles but unfortunately when you don’t crossover to TV/ movies they are less likely to cast you. Which is sad.

Andrea kind of changed the tune and was making it all about her rendition but SJP was a good sport and has been said to have been the best actress in the Annie role.She certainly has had a wonderful acting career.I agree Andrea had the best voice as a child

McArdle, the trained singer, heard that SJP was doing the standard, thus (McArdle) reached for the harmony for a better sound.

i think andrea’s voice was trained for broadway so she’s always super expressive and loud. i hear that lots of broadway singers have a hard time transitioning to other kinds of music because they have a tendency to yell and sing from their stomach. sarah never really sang after this so i think she’s just there for the fun times and memories lol
