Anyone else notice the immediate sound quality change as soon as I entered the studio, versus walking in the hallway at the start?

LOVE the #BTS you Share with us @PAt Flynn !

I love that you filmed this! It does such a great job of illustrating the sound difference. A lot of authors underestimate how hard it is to create an awesome audiobook, and if you have the budget for it, a studio with the right team makes all the difference. It's worth noting that it's important to get a studio/team that specializes in the spoken word. We've had some weird results come out of studios that are primarily for music recording. It isn't just about a studio, it's about the right studio and team for the best results.
Thanks for this!! I'm going to share this to my newsletter because I think it will really help a lot of authors make a more informed decision. Cheers.

Studio West was where I became a recording engineer back in 1974. I worked there doing commercials and recorded a whole bunch of great tracks for a rock opera called “The Pauper” that won the KPRI Battle of The Bands in 1978. I think they had a 16-track Stevens 2” recorder back then.

Love at you talk about at-home options even though you use a real studio! I also like how to talk about what it takes to train the voice to do this on a regular basis wihtout getting tired. Great video!

I’m considering which to do right now actually. This is super relevant. I recorded my own audiobooks for my first 2 books and they are very successful but I met a local audio guy at the park randomly that has a set up for audio book recording. You know one thing they funnily enough comes up for my is burping. For whatever reason when I’m trying to record precise audio, I have to edit out a bunch of burps. Odd, but I was wondering how things like that are handled in a professional session

I literally hired a vocal coach on Twitter I got into a conversation with. She lives in Australia, and we got on Skype each week to train. Lots of breathing and singing exercises - it was so fun! Kerri Ho is her name from The Song Bird Tree.
