Interesting but never ever tappy-tap-tap the inner race of a bearing. Always do it on the outer race.

The Barnsley backlash winds are well known here in red-rose territories, easily identified as they are accompanied by flocks of chip wrappers and flat caps.

A very interesting video Chris. as you may know, we have been running a weather station for over 20 years, and have repaired the anemometer in the past. The Davis systems use reed switches and seem to have a life of around 10 years. When replacing the reed switch I have found that corrosion has formed on the legs of the switch. Most of our failures occur in winder when the temperature falls below freezing. The end of the reed fractures and causes a miss anignment of the contacts. I have replaced these reeds with similar components but also covered them in a conformal coating to protect against damage.
I think your correct on the reed switch failures I will add a correction in the next video it’s a good call thanks.

Chris is a gifted genius. There are also UV resistant gray PVC electrical boxes w/gasket available at reasonable cost. Don't forget about hot wire anemometers, which are really not suited for this outdoor application. Just a different type to learn about. Cheers.
I like those boxes that are glass fibre reinforced I use them at work but they are expensive. I did look at hot wire and also ultrasonic but a bit complicated to build. Thanks for watching regards Chris
Nearly worked my way through your entire catalogue of video's and enjoyed thm all. I feel that this new direction for the channel will be good viewing. Love the detailed content in this latest project. Last time I used Gray code was at Fareham technical colledge in 1974. I stay away from digital nonsense unless I forced to use it as in repairing my frequency counter. Showed my wife the video as she is Lancasterian(she laughted).
Question, does cup size matter?

Cup size is certainly used to be a consideration but Just happy get the opportunity of playing with her tea set these days. I am also a Lancashire lad but don’t tell anyone one. Really glad you have enjoyed video and it is great to receive a nice comment. My thanks and very best regards Chris

Do you plan to make it completly stand alone at the receiving station, I mean no reliance on Android, Windows or Apple, I do hope so?
If it will have it's own dispay and control panel I'll order a Pi Pico thing and get 3D printing.

Thanks Dizzy. Sorry your comment did not show up for some reason. Yes I hope it to be stand alone and will be building a web server onto another pipico and uploading data to the web. However if I dont manage to do that I will probably build a base station with a LCD display.

Hello and Happy New Year Chris. I am really looking forward to this series - lots of information and fun! At work, we used polycarbonate boxes outdoors with great success. They seem to stand up well to UV and can be found with good weather seals and cover fasteners. They did not have knock-outs but can of course be drilled easily. Regards, David

For boxes use your 3D printer and design using parametric setting in the design and you can make boxes with screws of any size you wish?? I use freecad, and Ulimate Slicer 🙂
I’m still very much new to 3D modelling but really enjoy the design process and the ability to do 3D prints is awesome. Thinking of a resins printer for my birthday
