David Robertson Well with cats it’s different, because they have been domesticated. It’s worse with raccoons because they’ll start thinking that humans are friendly, when in reality, they will most likely be killed by animal control if a human calls them.

I love my raccoon, Rocksy! This little raccoon is hysterical, has lived in my yard for years and LOVES to play with a rock and knock on the door! She had just eaten the cats food when I shot this video! She is a mooch! Sometimes... she will come back ten times in a day! Playing with a rock to her... must be like being a chain smoker.... LOL... she has to have something in her hands! She will lay on the patio furniture and play with a rock... lay in the yard and play with a rock... she is so funny! Yes, she has five adorable babies who are growing quickly! I will be posting photos/videos soon. There are many mean people out there... so I have been very protective of her... please understand that. I am glad so many of you love her... she is very entertaining... and is a great mom to her babies! Please... be kind to raccoons... know that most raccoons out in the day are nursing mothers who just need a "mommy time out" to rest and nourish... for they stay in the den at night with their babies to protect them. I have volunteered for years in wildlife rescue, had my rabies shots... I know what I am doing for those who do not know my background. Do not try to pet raccoons, feed them etc... just let them be... Many times people think it is cute to get close to one... and they are wild.. .and if scared, they can bite. Then their life is in jeopard because many want to do them harm. Watch them and enjoy them from a distance. She is NOT a pet... but lives in my yard and surrounding jungle area... there is lots of wildlife where I live... and I respect it, love it, embrace it and encourage everyone to please, love and respect all animals... they are such a gift to this earth... we must protect them and educate people as to just how wonderful they are! I have not seen her or her babies in two nights. That is unlike her. There is another mommy raccoon that just brought her babies around last week... she and Rocksy are sisters. But I have one neighbor who has already killed some of them... and had another OLD BAT tell me that ALL wildlife should be killed for humans are superior. OMG... she is nuts.... literally losing her mind. I wish all people would love and respect animals like you and help them. Our world is full of mean, cold hearted, clueless people. To know the love of an animal like this... to see/feel the trust is like nothing I have ever experienced. I live in a swamp and over the years all sorts of animals and birds have come knocked on the door and I fed them. None ever stayed more than a couple of weeks, most only a day or 2. I think if an animal is desperate enough to come knock on the door they are really in trouble and just need a little help and they will go on their way when they are able. Once a male yellow warbler came knocking and I would put stuff out for him, food, water, dryer lint, broom straw etc. about a week later I found a dead female warbler in the flower bed so the daddy bird was taking care of the babies. He came for about 2 weeks and that was it. So that whole don't feed them or they will never leave is not always true.

If you constantly feed it it's going to rely on you for everything (as shown in this video), get lazy and eventually die earlier from a lack of wild survival knowledge. If you ignore it, it'll eventually leave and be independent.
What a cute video! I'm so sorry to hear that your neighbor poisoned poor Rocksy. My husband has worked animal rescue and the baby raccoons and possums are so sweet. Raccoons are very smart, it angers me someone would do that. I have cats, dogs, mice, rats, fish and an iguana. I call our house a menagerie lol! Thank you so much Athena. Rocksy was precious. I have rescued so much wildlife in my life and learned so much from volunteering with wildlife centers. Humans have taken all of the land... these poor animals have no where to go... so I try to leave my little property wild... lots of trees, bushes, areas for them to hide by the lake. For 14 years, I had families of raccoons come and go... many having their families under my deck, living there... they feel safe here. Rocksy was born in my yard... then got pregnant.... and started knocking on the door. They always play with my cats and dogs through the glass... I have one photo of one of the raccoons on the deck in the day.... my cat laying on the bench sunning himself... an a huge mascovi duck sitting with them... they all live in harmony. There has NEVER been any time where any of these raccoons have tried to come after my pets... ever! They live in harmony and respect each others boundaries. Sadly, there are a few freak neighbors scattered amongst my awesome neighbors... NO one has anything to do with them anymore... they are so mean, sick and evil... they kill everything. When Rocksy did not knock New Years Day morning... I knew she was gone... she knocked everyday... many times a day for about a year. I looked so forward to her knocks and didn't tell many... but everyone kept encouraging me to share her cute, smart talent... I had NO idea it would go viral... it was meant to educate my FB friends about raccoons being out in the day... they are usually nursing mothers... NOT rabid raccoons! Thank you for all you do... we must help change the way people think and we must protect ALL wildlife... they do not have laws that protect them. My goal is to change that! Thank you...Susie
That's so heartbreaking. We have raccoons that have been coming into our backyard after the chipmunk for about a month and my husband and I have had a blast filming them with an infrared camera. I haven't even got near them, just watched them on computer and I'm already so attached to them. I can't imagine someone killing them. I'm so sorry, Zoosie. Please tell me some charges can be brought up against the neighbor.
Thank you Dee...Wildlife is so fun to watch! They crack me up and I am glad you and your husband enjoy them... they will bring you so much joy! I was devastated to say the least and I reached out to the Florida Wildlife Commission. One guy was great and told me to get everything I had and he passed me to another man. Bottom line... after working for days, putting together an 8 page letter complete with names, times, addresses and even photos of the murdered raccoons and opossums... they would do NOTHING. Wildlife has no rights... yet psychos do. I am just sick... so many of my neighbors just love watching the wildlife around here and have for years. These poor animals have NO where to go because humans have taken away all of their land and destroyed their homes. I still have wildlife in my yard... and I love it and have notified all of my nice neighbors to be on the lookout. The bad people know they are being watched. Heaven help them if they try to do anything again... I will ruin their life by posting their address and doing a protest in front of their home and calling all of the media that was here before to cover the story. For now, I am laying low...I have so many great neighbors... but there are a few sickos scattered right around our area. I have even offered to live trap or lend out my life traps any if any animals bother anyone as I don't want the animals hurt...But this asshole loves to poison animals.... omg... they have NO friends and are total loners... scary really. Thank you for caring. My goal... make laws to protect wildlife and laws that will put animal killers in prison.
We just found a baby by the road and her eyes are still closed. I got her to take the formula today, she realized it was food. Going to take care of her till she can take solids then taking her to our wildlife coalition place. I would love to keep her in our yard but there's an expressway behind our house and we have Terriers who will not take to her at all. I'm enamored but being realistic.

Have bird feeders and accessible water outside, but in the former "greenhouse' that is accessible for us from the kitchen (door to yard open) we have water and a wide variety of foods laid out for visitors...fruit, veg, bread, etc. and a steady clientele of various species. We can watch from the kitchen. Mom raccoon's baby is now old enough to come with her. Cuute! I was once a mother raccoon. Vet had taken in two orphaned babies and gave them to me to raise (bottle fed until able to eat solids). They grew up to be very sweet people, and the Local Navy wildlife facility took them after they had lost their older raccoons, and said that Rosie and Bob were the most cooperative and quick to learn (commands) that they had ever worked with. They didn't want me to visit, though. They thought that if they saw me (the only momma they knew) that they would want to be with me and would probably forget what they had been taught. It hurt, but they were well loved and pampered by the keepers.
Love how she's not just knocking but using the rock to get maximum attention. Smart animal. I fostered two kits about 2 days old until release. It was alot of work but tons of fun. I see them often because I grow fruits and veggies and nut trees for wildlife to munch on, (they both have crooked tails so easily identifiable) racoons are very smart little critters that can be as loyal as a dog. Thank you for your sweet comment. Raccoons are amazing and we must protect them. I have done wildlife rescue for years and learned so much. I have yet to see a raccoon with rabies! It is always a hungry mom out looking for food to nourish herself and have some mommy time out of the den. My glass door is so scratched up and I love it... it reminds me always of my precious Rocksy. Sadly, my neighbors poisoned Rocksy and 3 of her 5 babies and have continued to poison all of the wildlife... 3 rabbits just this week. Our laws suck. I have had the police and the Florida Wildlife Commission out here... they basically do not care... this man that is killing hundreds of animals is crazy. I am afraid of him frankly. Other raccoons are around, but they vanish... mom and complete litters will be there one day and gone the next... that is only because this freak did something. Laws need to change and evil people need to be in prison.

This summer, after my neighbor cut down all the trees in his yard, I had a baby (4 month or so old) raccoon move into my covered deck. She didn't want to leave and stayed there for weeks. She got used to me, and liked that I fed her cat crunchies. After a few months, she would come down and meet me when I got home from work. I played with her a bit. But, it was getting close to fall, and I knew she couldn't stay (we live on a busy road, and I have a neighbor that shoots raccoons on sight). So I arranged her to be picked up by a wildlife rehabilitator. She hopped right into the crate, and loved her new surroundings. Still miss the little critter. But I know she's living a good life now. Raccoons are so awesome. :)

So sorry to read of Rocksy's sad end. Coming from the UK I'd never seen a raccoon until I visited my sister in Ohio and met the raccoon that used to visit her home each night for a corncob. I really liked the little guy.

Rocksy was so cute and so very smart. Sometimes she would knock with such a huge rock... I thought for sure she would break the door... so I would take the rock from her... throw it out into the garden and she would run right out and get another one... it was hysterical... she was obsessed with rocks and knocking.... I miss her so much... my neighbor poisoned her and 3 of her 5 babies and continues to kill all of the wildlife around here. I have reported him over and over but no one cares... we need to protect our wildlife and get laws changed and those murdering psychos put behind bars where they belong.

So FEED her already,...geeze! :-) I couldn't have stood there watching her "perform" and not given in to her,...as that performance was amazing. (and you're lucky she didn't get mad and use the rock to BUST out your glass door!) A nursing mother should have plenty of good food and water (or milk maybe?) A few raccoons come around my back yard , but only at night so far, and they eat really good. One loves the hard boiled eggs,...comes back for seconds a lot,...besides the dry dog food, they get lots of veggies & fruit (carrots, snap peas, green beans, broccoli, green peppers, green delicious apples, bananas, strawberries, & an occasional baked potato! They eat better them ME! :-) ...and don't even get me started on feeding the 12-15 Grey Squirrels and 2 feral cats that get fed daily,.....same deal,...lots of healthy foods (pecans, almonds, sunflower seeds, and some of the same fruits and veggies) There should be a Federal tax credit, or a wildlife dependent deduction for such things,...HA! (about $50 a week spent for the critters, and worth every penny,....just ask THEM! :-) Joe T Ti Rod Tactical

"Rocksy" is SO adorable!! She reminds me of my raccoon, who I lost eight years ago. I loved her like a daughter. Her name was "Oscar" (I thought she was a male, at first), named after one of the guys we hired to cut up and take away the fallen cottonwood tree, where she had been found after a bad storm. She was a newborn, and looked like a large rat, but with a black mask. That is how I knew what she was. I raised her. I tried to get her back to her mother, but I could not leave her alone out there (on our ranch), because she looked like a large rats and we had feral cats out there. I was afraid, that they would get her. I, also, did not see her mother, but I know that my presence, while watching the baby did not help. At the time, I was afraid that she would be put to sleep if I took her to the wildlife center. I know different now, and if I were to ever find a baby raccoon again, I would take the baby to the wildlife center. Anyway, I kept her, because she was terrified of the outdoors (possibly trauma from the tree falling and the storm, Idk). She was SO intelligent. She always wanted to know how things worked. She would unscrew the nuts from bolts to take things apart. She knew that I did not want her to do that, so she would put one hand in her mouth, like an innocent child, while the other hand was behind her back unscrewing something. I used to think of her capabilities as that of a small child. She was more like a monkey, than just any wild animal, because of the things that she did and could do. I kept a log of her development in several small notebooks. I wish that all people could realize how intelligent and wonderful raccoons are, and that people would choose to NOT hunt them or do anything else to harm them. I thank you, SO MUCH for putting Rocksy and her babies on You Tube, and for trying to inform and educate people about these marvelous little animals!!

I had JUST fed her and did NOT want to feed her on camera as not to encourage people to feed wildlife. I was also afraid that someone would try to cause problems... which they did within a few days. The Florida Wildlife Commission showed up at my door become some sick, jealous bastard called it in. The FWC was so nice and said I was doing nothing wrong... but I was warned that there would be evil people and that breaks my heart. For ALL of you that rip me apart for NOT feeding here... here is the deal. She knocked on my door everyday... for hours... for NINE months! I never put food in my trash... but threw it out into my jungle of a yard for all of the wildlife to eat because they have NO where to go because the humans have taken all of their land and they fight to stay alive in the little bit of wild property that I provide on the lake! Rocksy LOVED ROCKS!!! She love to play with rocks. There would be food right by her but she would rather play with a rock. She would lay on her back on the deck... playing with a rock. She would lay in my lounge chairs and play with a rock... she would literally be standing by food... at the door... and look at me as she slammed the rock against the glass. It was her toy... her security blanket! I would take the rocks that were too BIG and toss them into the garden... she would run and get another rock and return and start knocking! She was the funniest raccoon on the planet and I held off sharing her talents because I knew, doing years of wildlife rescue, that there would be some EVIL people out there who would be mean. When I finally decided to educate people about NURSING raccoons out in the day... that that is usually the case and that they are NOT rabid... I shared the video with MY friends! I had NO friggin idea it would go viral. So... to the kind, loving, compassionate people who have been so kind with your comments... I say "Thank you," so much... you warm my heart and give me hope for this earth and the precious animals that live here. To the mean people, I say... you have hurt me without out knowing the details. I rescue all of the time... have a baby rabbit with a head injury in my home tonight... animals are my life... I am vegan... I have been vegetarian for 35 years.... because I do NOT believe in eating animals... it is wrong. I love and care for animals more than most and I am so sensitive. I have even had my rabies shots so I can do wildlife rescue! This video was a blessing and a curse. I have literally had threats and had to fear for my life coz of some psychopath I was warned about that was out to get me. To top it off, my sick bastard neighbors, who has poisoned so much wildlife over the years... poisoned Rocksy and two of her 4 babies on New Years Eve, not this year, but last. I lost part of my soul. So... please stop BASHING me for not feeding her... I had... all the time... she loved her rocks... I guess you could say... Rocksy was a ROCK STAR! The raccon comes and steals cat food (which isn't cheap), then comes and bugs you for hours, scratching up your window with a rock just for more food. It's a raccoon, it can get food elsewhere. By feeding it you're enabling it to return. You think that raccoon will stop doing it anytime soon if you keep feeding it? I for one don't find being annoyed cute. I love my raccoon, Rocksy! This little raccoon is hysterical, has lived in my yard for years and LOVES to play with a rock and knock on the door! She had just eaten the cats food when I shot this video! She is a mooch! Sometimes... she will come back ten times in a day! Playing with a rock to her... must be like being a chain smoker.... LOL... she has to have something in her hands! She will lay on the patio furniture and play with a rock... lay in the yard and play with a rock... she is so funny! Yes, she has five adorable babies who are growing quickly! I will be posting photos/videos soon. There are many mean people out there... so I have been very protective of her... please understand that. I am glad so many of you love her... she is very entertaining... and is a great mom to her babies! Please... be kind to raccoons... know that most raccoons out in the day are nursing mothers who just need a "mommy time out" to rest and nourish... for they stay in the den at night with their babies to protect them. I have volunteered for years in wildlife rescue, had my rabies shots... I know what I am doing for those who do not know my background. Do not try to pet raccoons, feed them etc... just let them be... Many times people think it is cute to get close to one... and they are wild.. .and if scared, they can bite. Then their life is in jeopard because many want to do them harm. Watch them and enjoy them from a distance. She is NOT a pet... but lives in my yard and surrounding jungle area... there is lots of wildlife where I live... and I respect it, love it, embrace it and encourage everyone to please, love and respect all animals... they are such a gift to this earth... we must protect them and educate people as to just how wonderful they are! I live in a swamp and over the years all sorts of animals and birds have come knocked on the door and I fed them. None ever stayed more than a couple of weeks, most only a day or 2. I think if an animal is desperate enough to come knock on the door they are really in trouble and just need a little help and they will go on their way when they are able.
Once a male yellow warbler came knocking and I would put stuff out for him, food, water, dryer lint, broom straw etc. about a week later I found a dead female warbler in the flower bed so the daddy bird was taking care of the babies. He came for about 2 weeks and that was it.
So that whole don't feed them or they will never leave is not always true.

Thank you so much Athena. Rocksy was precious. I have rescued so much wildlife in my life and learned so much from volunteering with wildlife centers. Humans have taken all of the land... these poor animals have no where to go... so I try to leave my little property wild... lots of trees, bushes, areas for them to hide by the lake. For 14 years, I had families of raccoons come and go... many having their families under my deck, living there... they feel safe here. Rocksy was born in my yard... then got pregnant.... and started knocking on the door. They always play with my cats and dogs through the glass... I have one photo of one of the raccoons on the deck in the day.... my cat laying on the bench sunning himself... an a huge mascovi duck sitting with them... they all live in harmony. There has NEVER been any time where any of these raccoons have tried to come after my pets... ever! They live in harmony and respect each others boundaries. Sadly, there are a few freak neighbors scattered amongst my awesome neighbors... NO one has anything to do with them anymore... they are so mean, sick and evil... they kill everything. When Rocksy did not knock New Years Day morning... I knew she was gone... she knocked everyday... many times a day for about a year. I looked so forward to her knocks and didn't tell many... but everyone kept encouraging me to share her cute, smart talent... I had NO idea it would go viral... it was meant to educate my FB friends about raccoons being out in the day... they are usually nursing mothers... NOT rabid raccoons! That's so heartbreaking. We have raccoons that have been coming into our backyard after the chipmunk for about a month and my husband and I have had a blast filming them with an infrared camera. I haven't even got near them, just watched them on computer and I'm already so attached to them. I can't imagine someone killing them. I'm so sorry, Zoosie. Please tell me some charges can be brought up against the neighbor.

I was devastated to say the least and I reached out to the Florida Wildlife Commission. One guy was great and told me to get everything I had and he passed me to another man. Bottom line... after working for days, putting together an 8 page letter complete with names, times, addresses and even photos of the murdered raccoons and opossums... they would do NOTHING. Wildlife has no rights... yet psychos do. I am just sick... so many of my neighbors just love watching the wildlife around here and have for years. These poor animals have NO where to go because humans have taken away all of their land and destroyed their homes. I still have wildlife in my yard... and I love it and have notified all of my nice neighbors to be on the lookout. The bad people know they are being watched. Heaven help them if they try to do anything again... I will ruin their life by posting their address and doing a protest in front of their home and calling all of the media that was here before to cover the story. For now, I am laying low...I have so many great neighbors... but there are a few sickos scattered right around our area. I have even offered to live trap or lend out my life traps any if any animals bother anyone as I don't want the animals hurt...But this asshole loves to poison animals.... omg... they have NO friends and are total loners... scary really. We just found a baby by the road and her eyes are still closed. I got her to take the formula today, she realized it was food. Going to take care of her till she can take solids then taking her to our wildlife coalition place. I would love to keep her in our yard but there's an expressway behind our house and we have Terriers who will not take to her at all. I'm enamored but being realistic.

I did not feed her on camera for a reason... to protect her and me. I had NO idea this thing would go viral... she had done this knocking for nine months... and my friends encouraged me to share it with my FB friends... next thing I knew... it was VIRAL... I didn't even know what viral meant! LOL
Commenters act like this is right this moment....Mostly children probably... If you ever watch a family guy or a random cartoon video, read the comments, they think it`s real life.
Have bird feeders and accessible water outside, but in the former "greenhouse' that is accessible for us from the kitchen (door to yard open) we have water and a wide variety of foods laid out for visitors...fruit, veg, bread, etc. and a steady clientele of various species. We can watch from the kitchen. Mom raccoon's baby is now old enough to come with her. Cuute!
I was once a mother raccoon. Vet had taken in two orphaned babies and gave them to me to raise (bottle fed until able to eat solids). They grew up to be very sweet people, and the Local Navy wildlife facility took them after they had lost their older raccoons, and said that Rosie and Bob were the most cooperative and quick to learn (commands) that they had ever worked with. They didn't want me to visit, though. They thought that if they saw me (the only momma they knew) that they would want to be with me and would probably forget what they had been taught. It hurt, but they were well loved and pampered by the keepers.
Love how she's not just knocking but using the rock to get maximum attention. Smart animal. I fostered two kits about 2 days old until release. It was alot of work but tons of fun. I see them often because I grow fruits and veggies and nut trees for wildlife to munch on, (they both have crooked tails so easily identifiable) racoons are very smart little critters that can be as loyal as a dog. Thank you for your sweet comment. Raccoons are amazing and we must protect them. I have done wildlife rescue for years and learned so much. I have yet to see a raccoon with rabies! It is always a hungry mom out looking for food to nourish herself and have some mommy time out of the den. My glass door is so scratched up and I love it... it reminds me always of my precious Rocksy. Sadly, my neighbors poisoned Rocksy and 3 of her 5 babies and have continued to poison all of the wildlife... 3 rabbits just this week. Our laws suck. I have had the police and the Florida Wildlife Commission out here... they basically do not care... this man that is killing hundreds of animals is crazy. I am afraid of him frankly. Other raccoons are around, but they vanish... mom and complete litters will be there one day and gone the next... that is only because this freak did something. Laws need to change and evil people need to be in prison.

This summer, after my neighbor cut down all the trees in his yard, I had a baby (4 month or so old) raccoon move into my covered deck. She didn't want to leave and stayed there for weeks. She got used to me, and liked that I fed her cat crunchies. After a few months, she would come down and meet me when I got home from work. I played with her a bit. But, it was getting close to fall, and I knew she couldn't stay (we live on a busy road, and I have a neighbor that shoots raccoons on sight).
So I arranged her to be picked up by a wildlife rehabilitator. She hopped right into the crate, and loved her new surroundings.
Still miss the little critter. But I know she's living a good life now. Raccoons are so awesome. :)

I have had my rabies shots, I protest, I teach children at summer camp about wildlife and even how to catch bugs and take them outside. HUMANS are ruining the earth... NOT the animals... therefore, I will NOT help humans causes ... I will concentrate my energy on educating humans on animals and wildlife. I hope you enjoyed the video... but I will not share the other amazing ones I have of wildlife in my yard... or Rocksy and one of her babies... BOTH knocking... because it seems that this TH-cam has drawn haters... and it breaks my heart... oh... and by the way... Rocksy was murdered New Years Eve... and her babies were poisoned by the sick bastard that lives near me... the freak has murdered innocent wildlife for years and the police will do NOTHING! And another thing... ROCKSY HAD JUST EATEN! She played with rocks all day long... laid on the deck with a rock... laid in the chair with a rock... would stand up and knock on the door when there was food 6" from her... SHE LOVED TO PLAY WITH ROCKS! So sorry to read of Rocksy's sad end. Coming from the UK I'd never seen a raccoon until I visited my sister in Ohio and met the raccoon that used to visit her home each night for a corncob. I really liked the little guy.

Rocksy was so cute and so very smart. Sometimes she would knock with such a huge rock... I thought for sure she would break the door... so I would take the rock from her... throw it out into the garden and she would run right out and get another one... it was hysterical... she was obsessed with rocks and knocking.... I miss her so much... my neighbor poisoned her and 3 of her 5 babies and continues to kill all of the wildlife around here. I have reported him over and over but no one cares... we need to protect our wildlife and get laws changed and those murdering psychos put behind bars where they belong.

(and you're lucky she didn't get mad and use the rock to BUST out your glass door!) A nursing mother should have plenty of good food and water (or milk maybe?)
A few raccoons come around my back yard , but only at night so far, and they eat really good. One loves the hard boiled eggs,...comes back for seconds a lot,...besides the dry dog food, they get lots of veggies & fruit (carrots, snap peas, green beans, broccoli, green peppers, green delicious apples, bananas, strawberries, & an occasional baked potato! They eat better them ME! :-)
...and don't even get me started on feeding the 12-15 Grey Squirrels and 2 feral cats that get fed daily,.....same deal,...lots of healthy foods (pecans, almonds, sunflower seeds, and some of the same fruits and veggies) There should be a Federal tax credit, or a wildlife dependent deduction for such things,...HA! (about $50 a week spent for the critters, and worth every penny,....just ask THEM! :-)

"Rocksy" is SO adorable!! She reminds me of my raccoon, who I lost eight years ago. I loved her like a daughter. Her name was "Oscar" (I thought she was a male, at first), named after one of the guys we hired to cut up and take away the fallen cottonwood tree, where she had been found after a bad storm. She was a newborn, and looked like a large rat, but with a black mask. That is how I knew what she was. I raised her. I tried to get her back to her mother, but I could not leave her alone out there (on our ranch), because she looked like a large rats and we had feral cats out there. I was afraid, that they would get her. I, also, did not see her mother, but I know that my presence, while watching the baby did not help. At the time, I was afraid that she would be put to sleep if I took her to the wildlife center. I know different now, and if I were to ever find a baby raccoon again, I would take the baby to the wildlife center. Anyway, I kept her, because she was terrified of the outdoors (possibly trauma from the tree falling and the storm, Idk). She was SO intelligent. She always wanted to know how things worked. She would unscrew the nuts from bolts to take things apart. She knew that I did not want her to do that, so she would put one hand in her mouth, like an innocent child, while the other hand was behind her back unscrewing something. I used to think of her capabilities as that of a small child. She was more like a monkey, than just any wild animal, because of the things that she did and could do. I kept a log of her development in several small notebooks. I wish that all people could realize how intelligent and wonderful raccoons are, and that people would choose to NOT hunt them or do anything else to harm them. I thank you, SO MUCH for putting Rocksy and her babies on You Tube, and for trying to inform and educate people about these marvelous little animals!!

I am just so saddened by all of the negative, rude, clueless comments on here... so I seldom respond. I had JUST fed her and did NOT want to feed her on camera as not to encourage people to feed wildlife. I was also afraid that someone would try to cause problems... which they did within a few days. The Florida Wildlife Commission showed up at my door become some sick, jealous bastard called it in. The FWC was so nice and said I was doing nothing wrong... but I was warned that there would be evil people and that breaks my heart. For ALL of you that rip me apart for NOT feeding here... here is the deal. She knocked on my door everyday... for hours... for NINE months! She was fed several times a day... she would snag my cats food... I would toss out fruits and veggies .... I never put food in my trash... but threw it out into my jungle of a yard for all of the wildlife to eat because they have NO where to go because the humans have taken all of their land and they fight to stay alive in the little bit of wild property that I provide on the lake! Rocksy LOVED ROCKS!!! She love to play with rocks. There would be food right by her but she would rather play with a rock. She would lay on her back on the deck... playing with a rock. She would lay in my lounge chairs and play with a rock... she would literally be standing by food... at the door... and look at me as she slammed the rock against the glass. It was her toy... her security blanket! I would take the rocks that were too BIG and toss them into the garden... she would run and get another rock and return and start knocking! She was the funniest raccoon on the planet and I held off sharing her talents because I knew, doing years of wildlife rescue, that there would be some EVIL people out there who would be mean. When I finally decided to educate people about NURSING raccoons out in the day... that that is usually the case and that they are NOT rabid... I shared the video with MY friends! I had NO friggin idea it would go viral. So... to the kind, loving, compassionate people who have been so kind with your comments... I say "Thank you," so much... you warm my heart and give me hope for this earth and the precious animals that live here. To the mean people, I say... you have hurt me without out knowing the details. I rescue all of the time... have a baby rabbit with a head injury in my home tonight... animals are my life... I am vegan... I have been vegetarian for 35 years.... because I do NOT believe in eating animals... it is wrong. I love and care for animals more than most and I am so sensitive. I have even had my rabies shots so I can do wildlife rescue! This video was a blessing and a curse. I have literally had threats and had to fear for my life coz of some psychopath I was warned about that was out to get me. To top it off, my sick bastard neighbors, who has poisoned so much wildlife over the years... poisoned Rocksy and two of her 4 babies on New Years Eve, not this year, but last. The raccon comes and steals cat food (which isn't cheap), then comes and bugs you for hours, scratching up your window with a rock just for more food. It's a raccoon, it can get food elsewhere. By feeding it you're enabling it to return. You think that raccoon will stop doing it anytime soon if you keep feeding it? I for one don't find being annoyed cute. Yes it's amazing the raccoon learned how to do this on its own, but I would not feed it.
