Accent of a person depends on where she learnt that particular language from. I can totally relate to this. My pronunciation is a mix of basic American and British. I learned English from my parents. Dad had American pronunciation where as mum had British pronunciation. That's how it works.

This may be biased because I'm Indian, but when I came to Canada I had a really strong Indian accent. Obviously, I was teased for it, but without even realizing it my accent changed. I'm happy with how I sound now. Priyanka still has her roots in her voice and she sounds natural to me. I think that younger people catch the accent faster because they're still developing, which is why you can still hear the Indian accent, which I'm perfectly alright with. You don't have the right to judge how someone speaks, it's just too many possibilities as to why they speak like that. And yes, I know who Priyanka is. I've watched her movies since before I could walk.

Most of the Indians have a heavy influence of their Mother tongue when they speak English. So when someone speaks in a NEUTRAL accent, they automatically think it's an American accent.
Priyanka has always had a NEUTRAL accent. Only now when she's on an American show, she speaks in a slightly Americanized accent. like TODAY becomes "toouhDhay".....but infact in her show, she retains a NEUTRAL accent for some words like IRAQ ..she said it like EEeRaaK..and not EYE-Rack which most Americans do. Also, when she said Pakistan she used Paakistaan...and not Packistan which most Americans do. So don't read too much in her accent. If you're able to understand what she's saying, she's done her Job..(or Jaab ;) )

I get you. You could pick up an accent purposely trying to learn it or it just happens sometimes when you have that quality. Doesn't really matter what part of world you live in. I Don't understand why people call it "faking an accent" i mean faking to be white or something? People Calling the process of learning and having a quality 'fake' is disappointing in itself.
Actually Picking up an Accent comes a little faster for Indians.
The reason being that most (North Indian) Languages are derived from Sanskrit. And as we all know, Sanskrit is one of the most Effective Languages to ever exist, as it uses all parts of the mouth for Speech.
Hence, why it's so easy for Indians to adopt a foreign Accent. As their own Mother tongue isn't limited by diction and has way too much flexibility and potential. There's a reason why Germany is crazy for their Children Learning Sanskrit for Speech Therapy and Development.
That isn't as easy for a lot of South Indians tho, as most of their Languages are derived from Tamil (with it also being a Primary language even today).
It's really strange when people make fun of Indian Accent. There isn't one. There are rather multiple Indian Accents that people just don't get it.
