    Nice review! I've got this car in December with 18" alloys, and with the comfort and sound pack. I got it on a lease which was about £100 more a month than the 35 TFSI. I think I can save about £30/£40 a month in fuel and a lot more in London Congestion Charge but have still been very surprised by how few miles you get out of the electric motor. The range starts at about 30miles, all of a sudden you've driven 2 miles and the range has gone down by 5. It seems quite affected by things like whether you've got the heated seats on, air con etc.
    One thing I do really like though is how quick it is, the 0-60 is quicker than a 35 TFSI but the 0-30/0-40 I found to be much much quicker as the battery adds a lot of responsiveness in power.
    Great video- agreed with a lot of it

      You're absolutely right the acceleration feels fun and that probably came across in my voice :)
      Also happy to hear you went for the comfort and sound upgrade, this I think is too often overlooked and you get so much with it.

      @@pa_alia I haven’t done this often but would say 25 miles. Not very impressive given the time to charge. I drive around central London and I can’t say I particularly try to drive efficiently so maybe you’d get more. My MPG on hybrid mode is about 40 (this is the mode I normally drive). I don’t regret getting the hybrid model I think it’s extra power makes for a much more fun drive, and if you can charge at home overnight it would be great

    Most of these cars are going to end up as company fleet cars or private lease contract.
    We at work are being pushed to full electric vehicles or the very least a petrol hybrid due to the tax cut incentives and the company wanting to look green. I've just ordered the A3 tsfi e. I live on a street and cannot always park right outside my house. So I'm a little apprehensive how I'm going charge it at times because the company isn't installing chargers at work yet, maybe in the future they will. I know it has a petrol engine too but that's not the point of these vehicles to continually run them on petrol. the range is a little on the poor side, like you say the tech is quite there yet.
    But I'm looking forward to receiving it sometime in the summer.
    Great review.

    • @CRD90
      @CRD90  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree with your points, I hope they figure out charging in the next decade or so.
      I also think the moment the tax from petrol and diesel start to die down, magically all of the incentives will dissapear for electric cars and the cost might even start going up.

    • @led0073
      @led0073 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CRD90 I said that about the tax incentives too, someone higher up in the work place mentioned future road pricing. So rather than paying tax we may have to have devices in the car that track where we go and when, and you get a bill and it's deducted from your account accordingly. Simular to how your phone works.

  • @XxZaeeMx

    Informative review but I personally feel you were approaching the review with a negative view beforehand as you kept referring to your Edition 1. This car is aimed more towards company car users and the £7k increase is saved (and more) just by pure savings in BiK tax. Also yes we get it, it doesn’t come with heated seats as standard but the Comfort and Sound Package which includes heated seats and Bang & Olufsen is only £1.2k … check how much a company like BMW charge for B&O alone.
    Finally the 18 inch alloys I agree don’t look as nice as nice as 19 or 20 would do, but this is again due to the savings in BiK tax. The car is marketed for a completely different audience than you think.
    I’ll check out a few more of your reviews as you provide sound content, just a few words of advice from me.

    Gained a good promotion at work and this car is on my new company car list, ordered it in Narvara blue and black leather and leather ish interior, with the comfort pack, and larger alloys. First time with a German built car. Work is really pushing EV and hybrid cars. Due to the bik tax. So I will pay a little less and I know that will change the government will want money back when tax receipts drop on petrol and diesel in the future. But for now I'm going to give it a go and any bills are paid for via work with future issues like battery life
    I am really look forward to getting it now. Going to try and embrace the future (ish) via work paying for it and maybe in another 3 years the battery technology will have made a leap again.

    I would say that these hybrids will be better and great around the 4th generation. The car I drive is a 1st gen hybrid (330e, great car) and at first I got about 20-24miles of battery only driving now after 3years I am lucky to get 13 miles after a full charge and the battery after a drive around town will be nearly half dead.
    I don’t think these cars are the future until they make massive improvements to the battery life and the size and weight. Also the electric motors need to be improved I see the electric motors getting larger and the petrol engines getting smaller.
    I would not bother with these, I was tempted to get this same one (decided against it, went for the petrol) as when the battery dies or ‘empty’ the 1.4 engine has to not only pull the car but also a dead battery and electric motor and you as well.

      I have the Mk1 version of the A3 Sportback E-tron (2018 "mild" facelift), which is basically the same as the Tfsi e but with a smaller battery (8.8kwh vs 14.kwh, 29 miles vs 41 miles) . I've read that Audi (and VAG) is very conservative in their quotes for battery degradation. When I bought mine used end-Feb 2020, I was getting 20 miles range. This went up to 23-24 miles in the summer (milder weather is easier on battery life) and is back to 20 miles currently (Jan 2021). This covers my 18 mile round-commute, with occassional dabs of heating/AC or heated seat use. I'm confident that the battery will last-it's the complex drivetrain, with dual clutch gearbox, motor and dual mass flywheel that I'm more concerned about failing in the long-term. It's by far the most luxurious, quiet and comfortable car I've had, I'm just having to consider whether to extend the warranty in a few months, or set some money aside for any issues that might arise in the 7-10 years I plan to keep the car. I would say that if I had had around £35-40k to spend at the time, I probably would have got an EV, but the A3 Etron less than 2 years old was more than half the price and fully laden with every option bar e-cockpit and the Bose sound system (I have the Audi sound system option and it sounds pretty good to me!)

      We've actually just realised a really good video on the comfort and sound pack which is a must if you go down the electric route rather than vorsprung.
      I think with a company car, it's probably better going for the electric version fully specd out because you won't have the car over a super long time and it will always be the leasing companies responsibility to fix it should anything go wrong.
      It's also worth looking at the new s-line competition trim for the 45tfsie which is a much better looking version and the one I would go for (black styling pack, better alloys)

      Vehicles delivered after 6th April 2020 must be tested with any optional equipment fitted to provide an accurate CO2 emissions figure. Unfortunately manufacturers have not yet provided us with this information and so this car must be quoted "as standard".

    Good review 👌🏽 However, l think you were being overly critical on this car. Yes, some improvements could be made but it’s far better than the majority of phev cars out there.
    I bought one and tbh l don’t regret it. A lot of reaction videos are biased and subjective, similar to movie reviews. In future, l would advise to be more neutral.
    With that in mind, l would advise anyone to test it out because it is an efficient car when CHARGED properly.

    Thanks for showing the standard suspension; the vast majority of videos and photos of A3’s seem to be S-Line with sports springs/dampers. It does ride rather high :-( Did it feel much different when you were driving, compared to yours?
    I agree with you about the added complexity and cost compared to the likely savings. Perhaps this is a car for those with short commutes, to maximise the use of electric only during the week whilst having the range of the petrol engine for longer journeys?

    • @CRD90
      @CRD90  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching bud, yeah the ride felt smoother but it was probably a combo of the 18" alloys as well as the suspension.
      To be honest in grey and at that ride height it looked similar to a Mercedes-Benz GLA which you'll probably see it now if you pause it.
      Be warned it can never been unseen!
      Yeah I feel this is for more shorter journeys, but then again I still do not feel it justifies the price increase. My brother owns a phev and has a proper charging point installed.
      He's given up with charging as it became a hassle.
      I personally feel it will take society time to adapt to plugging in our cars overnight and it will only work for those who have suitable houses/driveways.

    • @AdamCalow

      @@CRD90 Thanks for the info about the suspension. And interesting to hear about your brother. I was toying with the idea of getting a Hyundai Ionic for some time before settling on the A3 so I spent a fair amount of time looking into the pros and cons of hybrids. Aside from the particular circumstance of a short commute together with a driveway/garage for charging most people probably get more bang for their buck with a so called self-charging hybrid rather than a plug-in. I’ve happily settled for the mild hybrid as a small stepping stone towards electrification :-)
