Chasing Igor in his 350bhp Caterham 620R. Donington GP 3/10/22

Trying to keep up with Igor's 620r.
Igor’s car is a masterpiece of engineering. It now has 3 radiators, various pumps to control the engine and gearbox temperatures, digital read outs on the dash. It’s very impressive. He has sorted out all of the inherent issues a standard 620r has, but as a by product, it’s now producing around 350bhp! It’s interesting to see how the 2 cars compare on track. The 620r has the wider SV chassis and as a result, weighs around 700kg. My Superlight Twenty has 178bhp but only weights 506kg.

Nice footage! I'm doing the GP circuit for the first time next week, hoping for a few fast Caterhams to have fun with, otherwise will just have to annoy Porsche drivers 😂🏎

Impressive. The sequential gearbox in the 620R is probably worth at least 0.5s per lap, so you are doing well to keep up.

So now Igor has a car with about 500bhp/tonne, less than the standard car and can't seem to get away from you in a 350/tonne car? Seems like a backward step to me. Of course it could be just a difference in driving skill or maybe you have better brave pills than he does! 😂
Your car sounds and goes brilliantly btw, and is my favourite colour too. Lovely thing to own.

Broken speedo. Had that problem too. It’s a rear wheel sensor thing.

It works fine on the road, but just goes a bit barmy on track. I wonder if it’s the heat from the brakes that the sensor isn’t keen on?

Are the superlights easier to control than a 620?

No.. just a lot slower

@@paullubliner6221 wrong..in fact a standard 310hp 620 will keep up with an Atom 4 remapped to 350hp.

Depends who is driving to some extent but it's generally agreed that the 620R is difficult to handle for most drivers. Most would find a Superlight easier to deal with.
