I just picked a couple of these up. I had the AT 2100 & Samson Q2u for when I wanted to do a livestream where I incorporate other members of the family but decided to up my USB mic game with this one. Really liking it...the dual USB/XLR functionality makes this a great one for podcasters who want a mic that can grow with them. Still using my Neumann TLM-103 for my podcasts and probs will for life but could see using this to do some live streaming in non treated rooms or on my deck. Or, with family members who are in non-treated rooms, etc.

hey podcastage I had lag issues with a few interfaces and their software before. My audient interfaces have had this issue for years. The fix was to plug them into a different usb port on my pc. For whatever reason they hated specific USB ports and worked just fine after moving them.

Is there a distance “far” setting like the MV7 has, and which allows for use outside the video frame in a talking head video?

I picked up the Streamer X for the capture card specifically; nonetheless, I hooked up a RE320 to the mic input and was impressed with the Unify software, but did not experience the issues you had with Aphex (on Windows 11 machine) sending love and peace to everyone...

Is the PodMic USB any easier to recommend than the OG PodMic?

My mic sounds muddy for some reason. Tried messing with settings to no avail. Could it be my set up? Im on a gaming laptop with windows 11. Mic is very very close to mouth. Proper mic etiquette for a dynamic mic.

heya buddy, good intro, but does anyone have any suggestion for the mic (i have the rode podmic USB) not being recognized in any Rode app? It does being greyed out in Rode Unify and Rode Connect. Cheers

Interesting. Seems a bit sad it discards your settings if you disable advanced mode. Rather than remembering them but not using them. Hmm. Now wondering if the maono devices/sw do the same...

Is that On-Board like the Beacn Mic does where if you unplug it saves your settings to the microphone and can be used on any device you connect to? Also does the DSP still work if you use XLR? So if you set the DSP and then switch to XLR can you still get those benefits?

Great point. I wonder that too

I third this ↑↑↑ I'm looking for something to use on Playstation 5 for streams and being able to save the settings to the mic itself would be crucial. (so long as the mic is compatible with the PS5, that is)

I cannot confirm for every device, but I did set up the DSP on my main computer. Then connected the mic to my laptop which has no Rode software installed and it sounds like all the processing remains. I haven’t confirmed on other devices though and I don’t have gaming systems so I have no idea how it works on those.

@@Podcastage2 USB connected or XLR? Sounds like once configured the settings stay on the device when USB connected. Which would the minimum I would expect from a USB Microphone with DSP built in. I just wish there was an expander along with the compressor.

@@mobilechaosyt Only over USB. XLR is analog only so none of the chips are powered on and none of the processing is passed through. And to preemptively answer if the DSP is passed over XLR while it’s still connected to USB, the answer would be no. You’re not even able to output XLR & USB Simultaneously. DSP is only available over USB.

thanks for getting back to me @@rannivvitch - yeah I tired that and all sorts, basically its my laptop and the intel smart audio technology blocks rode central - Rode wrote me back over various back and forth and that is the workflow they have come up with is to either disable that driver - or you can use a USB Hub and then it tricks the machine. Worked a Dream on old 2019 Mac laptop and Desktop work PC Computer, so a bit bummed its not working on the machine I'm currently using it for streaming and ultimately sent it back

i thought DSP stood for "depth, sparkle, and punch"? but it stands for "digital signal processing"?? lol

Looks like some rushed software. Ended up picking up an Presonus io44 for $80 from Amazon Warehouse to get something with a built in DSP. From the design, to the usage, that Rode software experience just looks so bad.

From my experience with this mic so far, Rode Central is very clunky to use in practice.
The basic controls are no doubt there, but configuring repeatable settings as profiles or easily reasoning about what DSP options are running and at what settings isn’t easily discoverable. And your hard work on dialed in settings can be errantly wiped with the wrong click of a button.
The software itself has a ways to go. I didn’t think I’d be clamoring for Elgato maturity on that front in comparison.
Plug the mic into an interface and the experience is much better.
