    This was the year my friend and I traveled all the way from Canada to Ernee France to support the Canadian contingent . We knew they didn't have much of a chance but that was besides the point. For us it was a big adventure to go to an international event such as this .
    What really was a let down was Blair Morgan ( of Canada ) refusing to even acknowledge us . Its not like they had many other supporters there .
    It was astounding the attitude the Canadians had considering they were running near last place most of the time .
    We just said "To hell with them ! If the Canadians want to cop that sort of attitude with us , we don't need them ".
    What's ironic is that Rickey Carmichael actually signed my hat and commented on how cool it was for us to travel all the way from Canada just to see the event .
    So , no regrets and a lesson learned .

    Imagine the damage Ben Townley could done if he's injuries didn't end his career.
    Matching Ricky Carmichael early in the race, that's ridiculous!

      I went to the 2007 MXofN at Bud's Creek Maryland, (RC's last race and Villapoto dominating the world from start(s) to finish on his 250 4-stroke), and I was super bummed that BT had hurt his shoulder in practice. I never saw him race, and I know it would have been a treat.

    Wow how fast was RC to just ride away from world class riders. 1 lap and nearly 5 second lead. Incredible

      Some amazing RC facts:
      1) He never lost an AMA national championship with any bike size, (125, 250/450), for his entire 10.5 year pro career.
      2) Once he got the points lead for a national series, he never lost it.
      3) RC was the first to win every moto, (24), in the 250/450 outdoor series, and he did it twice. A third time, he lost only one moto to Tim Ferry.
      4) RC retired after 10.5 years as a pro, (He missed one SX series because of knee surgery, or it would have been 11 years pro), racing both the SX and nationals for his entire career, and retired with over a 83% win average. He retired with 15 championships and the next best was 7, (shared by Hannah, Johnson, Ward, Stanton and MC). There are less people in the history of the world of all sports who you can count on one hand, (team sports or sports based on the individual, all sports), who have a better long term success rate. So that said, to answer your question,------he was as fast as possible for as long as possible, and that will never happen again.

      @EarthSurferUSA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eZaFJDUBB Well, it would have been interesting to see what the likes of Bailey, Johnson, JMB, Ward and Stanton, Bradshaw would have done against RC, but he did dethrone MC in SX, and that is about the only record, (MC 72 race SX wins), he would not touch. Nobody else would hold them all off, (and the world), for 15 years, and still be winning on 2-stroke before he was the last to switch, (James also). The difference between RC and most all other champions, (but hard to tell because of some of their injuries, where RC remained almost injury free for his entire pro career), would be his ability to "step it up", when Chad and James came along and anybody else who challenged him. Most dominant racers, (like McGrath in SX, or Barry Scheen in Euro road racing when Roberts went over there and started winning), run into some kind of mental block if they start getting beat. Our guys in the 80's seemed to be good at that, but they all got hurt after a championship or more, (7 was the max championships before RC's 15), but that is where RC stood out, he just kept raising the bar. Villapoto (a lot) and Dungey (somewhat), kept that bar high until they retired,---but it is lower now, and we can't win this race anymore. Personally, I think RC would have given even RJ, Bailley, JMB and the rest of our great MX hero's a bit more than even they, (who were the best in the world), could chew.
      I will bet you money, (but we will never find out), that if everybody lowered their bikes about 2", they would have better corner speed and more line choices, like RC did. :)
      When Reed races the 250cc 2-stroke bikes with RC in his first 2 big bike SX series's, him and RC had some real nail biters, lapping up to 3rd place on a 20 lap main. It was like, if the track has 2 whoop sections, we bet on Reed. But RC still had the corner speed, (and not all rhythm sections to slow him back down).
      I can't take anything away from RC because he did not race the earlier hero's, because I know the racing did not get slower with RC.
      On these tracks that are designed to keep everybody the same speed, we will never see that greatness again. The law of averages as the biggest factor of our racing today says it is Marvin's turn to win a race. He just picked up .2 seconds a lap recently, so he is a touch faster than the rest of the parade. :)

    Yea and you know he hasn't ever been mistaken as a smooth rider. That track helps him a little bit tho cause it's not a drought track at all. Lotta hills and all and fast as all get out. BUT the jumps are in places where all the landings are just right. He the best that ever set his ass on a MOTOCROSS bike. And nobody will ever be the rider he was.EVER. I Watched him growing up and winning titles from the time he was 5 or 6 and use to tell all my MOTOCROSS buddies that when he turned pro he would win the national his first year and every year after. Took a year or 2 in supercross but that's nothing like motocross. It's all about timing and getting your wheels back on the ground first. McGrath was and will always be the king of supercross but only won 1 outdoor national

      I saw he had them corned in 2002, when I guessed he would win 15 championships before he retired. I found his interview very interesting on "The Whiskey Throttle Show", when he said, "I raced scared. I was terrified to lose. I don't think any sport psychologist would say that is a good thing, but that is the way it was for me.". He was scared to lose, like we were scared to crash. That could be some big motivation. I know I did everything I could do, to not crash. :)

    James stewert was the fastest man on a MX bike, he just crashed to much, he beat rc straight up on a 250 2 smoker when rc was on the 450f
    I listened to rc saying if bubba backed it off a little in races he would of won a lot more than he did
    Rc is the goat not because he was the fastest because he raced clever..

      And you are just plain ignorant with your comments about Stewart being the FASTEST. He had to ride way over his head to even beat Carmichael, the FASTEST EVER PERIOD, OR HE WOULDN'T HAVE WENT DOWN SO MUCH.CARMICHAEL. WOULD JUST RIDE BEHIND HIM WATCHING HIS LINES. AND WHEN HE WAS READY HE JUST RODE RIGHT AROUND STEWART AND BYE BYE. STEWART COULDN'T KEEP THE BIKE ON 2 WHEELS RIDING RICKYS PACE. BUY YES HE WAS ONE OF THE FASTEST EVER. ALONG WITH TORTELLI WINDHAM AND A WHOLE SLEUTH OF OTHER RIDERS. BUT NOT ONE OF THE FASTEST, BUT THE FASTEST, IS THE GOAT. HIS NAME IS RICKY CARMICHAEL. NOT. JAMES STEWART

      I could say the same about Pastrana, (or even Alessi), but not at the end of a race or the end of a series. They were all very close in their top speeds for a fast lap on the average for all the tracks,---but it is not a drag race. If you add it all up, who ever cross the finish line first was the fastest, and RC did that over 83% of the time he lined up on all the pro gates. But one huge factor is also, he only got hurt once where he missed a SX series out of 11 years of pro racing.

    • @livingbeing1113
      @livingbeing1113 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I remember those years well, Stewart never had RC's cornering, relentless pace and fitness. Overall RC was the fastest.
      Stewart was probably more naturally talented riding wise, surely more agile on the bike, but that's just one parameter. Others had great talent, maybe more than RC and never fullfilled their potential.
      RC put it all togheter. He had the speed, the pace, the fitness, the consistency, the mentality.

    They say Europe versus American.. So basically three bikes (American)versus 35 other bikes (Europe) .. it’s crazy how they always say Europeans are better than America an MXGP. Maybe one or two Europeans have the same speed as the Americans . Come on 3 vs35 ?
