Wonderful video there John, seeing those Santa Fe GE locomotives reminds me when I saw their trains coming down from Cajon Pass in the California desert in 2002! Great memories. Those locomotives were part of Santa Fe's "Super Fleet" locomotives used in high priority freight trains from Chicago to LA.
I needed something to distract me from unrequited love and your video was just the ticket. You are a natural narrator and I well know the tendency of springs to ping into dark corners.
Hi Rob....thanks for the comment, nice words & it's good you managed to find spare parts for her....it's not easy! Please let me know how it all goes & will you be featuring her in a forthcoming video? All the best, john.
love the battlespace car john !, the ultimate leaf blower !, or making mincemeat of the spiders that hide in your tunnels !, i think i need to have a word with the chaps on my section at network rail and get a full sized one for the leaf fall season this year ! lol
I loved this vid it was great , loved the red mouse space ship prop powered loco thing ? This made be laugh what a fantastic item , this is what makes this hobby great seeing items like this , & not takeing it too serious . Ithanks jim 10/10
Thanks for your kind words & comment. As for the yellow Battlespace Turbo Car....you are correct in saying that the drawing of the original prototype was actually in yellow. It was however never manufactured in this colour. Kind regards, John.
@trainscrazy Thanks for the comment Jake...I thought about you a few times whilst putting her back together....I remembered you asked to see her running. Cheers, John.
Hi Spencer, thanks for your comment & with whimsical context! The Turbo Car was never done in yellow to the best of my knowledge so I think you must be mistaken there. I agree with you on the sound of the Triang motors & as for the foam underlay...well yes it is OK when new but....if this is down for a few years....foam disintigrates over time so....not for me. Cheers for your support, John.
excellent turbo car john me and my dad have managed to get hold of a lot of them. one was mint in a box brand new for £60, i also got a santa fe at the weekend but in blue and yellow!
I love the rocket.I have bought one mint but never been able to run it as the main axle gear is split,. BUT I have just managed to get a spare so hopefully ill soon be able to run it and hopefully it will run as well as yours. great video again so happy I found your channel Cheers Rob
Hi Love the mixture of ages of stock on your layout! The Rocket runs fantastic! Regarding the comment about the yellow Battle Space Turbo Car, the Hornby Guide website does show a yellow topped "Artsists impression" for an early model 1966 year but whether that design was actually made I am not sure! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for your comment buddy & yes....I am aware of this one for sale on ebay! The seller in question is always over-the-top with his prices however...a good condition one usually commands about £200+. I paid £65 for mine but with a damaged nose cone & side stickers a bit ruff! No big deal though as I can put all this right myself! Kind regards, John.
@howarth004 Hi Dave....thanks for your comments again. And yes, you are right about accidents when filming.....I always do a 'dry run' first but in the case of the 2 Santa Fe locos I didn't! Cheers, John.
Unique videos. Where else on internet would you see a steam powered rocket and fan powered car flying round a circuit, when picking up tips on soldering earlier in day? Excellent.
John very entertaining and funny vid! .I think the star of the show has got to be the turbo car, perhaps you could make a converter wagon and some inter-city coaches behind it! it would certainly give the Hornby Pendilino a run for its money. Maybe Virgin Railways could build a full size version to get Richard Branson around quicker!
John I was thinking about rolling stock stopping on insulated frogs, would via using a soft B5 sketching pencil or the flat type carpenters pencil. Run the pencil on top of the plastic frog rails (ensuring not to get the two rails joining with the carbon coating) leaving a coating of carbon on the top as it conducts electric to help short wheel based loco's from stopping on them.
Kind-of a good idea here John but in reality & even before the carbon wears-off...the resistance of the carbon would be too high & not carry the current anyway. All the best, John.
The Turbo car looks like something from the Beatles "Yellow Submarine" film. I know it pre-dates the film by a few years. Weren't the original turbo cars all yellow? Great vids. I love the whine and grind of the old X 04. Glad to see you nail the track straight to the baseboard. Foam underlay is for wimps. If you can't hear the Blue Pullman or Princess Victoria from the next room, its not proper Tri-ang. One of the true "Sounds of the Sixties" Beautiful
Hi buddy, thanks for your kind comment. You can usually find the Rocket on ebay from time-to-time but you will need to pay a fair price for a good one! Kind regards, John.
Hi buddy & thanks for your comments. Yes, the rocket does have a smoke unit but I forgot to put fluid in her before doing the vid! I'll run her again in another vid...in the future with her smoking! And yes....you are correct....the earlier, deeper flange locos won't run on Super 4 track but you can change the wheels to accomodate this. I have done so on many of my locos & rolling stock. Kind regards, John.
Hi Damien & yes....the hand-cart is really cute! It is made by Bachmann & is available in a few different liveries. Good luck in collecting one. All the best, John.
Hi Graham...thanks for the comment. OK, I got back into the 'trains thing' December 2010 so....just over 3 years & after a 40 year lay-off! As regards all the info well...a lot of it came back but a lot more has been through extensive research! Hope this helps you? Kind regards, John.
@intercity112255 Hi buddy and thanks for your comments & question. I am however a bit confused? If you've seen the video with the 'gandy dancer hand-cart' you will know that it is not perfect on points at slow speed! At a faster [but less realistic speed] she clears the points fine' I hope this answers your question? Kind regards, John.
@mitrax4 Hi Dougie....thanks again for your kind comments...I can always rely on a nice comment from your good self......it is very much appreciated. Cheers, John.
Me again buddy, I should have said Series 6 or Peco track.....not Super 4 track which of course the larger flanged locos will run on fine. Sorry for this mistake! Cheers, John.
@zombieruler100 OK Luke....all understood.....please let me know if & when you want to sell one & I'll put you in touch with the guy who wants one. Cheersm John.
@zombieruler100 OK Luke....I understand....this is the kind of thing I do to. If you have a complete working one I may have a buyer for you? Please let me know. Cheers, John.
my vids are old and need reworking. there is only one new version video of A4s 4468 and 4498, I need to do more and maybe talk more on screen like I do with my Transformers reviews. Cheers Rob
Hi John Nice video as usual I have seen a lot of your videos now,how long have you been modeling and how did you get all the info about every thing. Graham
Hi buddy, I assume you mean Stevensons Rocket? If so....ebay....there's usually one on most of the time but they're not cheap! Hope this helps you? Cheers, John.
that red thing: Triang got some complaints about kids getting that poked into there eyes.. but its fine if they get there fingers cut off by the fan? haha interesting stuff
Hi John I will if I can get her to run, She Is the later hornby 80s version with silver wheels 3 coaches and the 2 figures. I have a few vids of my trains but no layout however I am just about to build a micro layout for my review of precision ice and snow on britmodeller and rmweb check it out, search precision ice and snow on google look for britodeller or rmweb its amazing stuff you got to see it. Cheers Rob
Do you have all three of the Triang coaches for the Rocket. According to the 1979 "Hornby Book Of Trains" they were named "Liverpool", "Manchester" and "Dispatch".
Hello again Andy. I have four coaches on the Rocket....you can see them at the top of the rise...at the back of my layout, on the last few vids. 2 of them are Experience & the other 2 are Dispatch. I don't have the one that says 'Times'. Actually you & Neon Tube have it wrong! All the coaches had 'Manchester & Liverpool' on them. The different wording is in the centre & the variants where: Dispatch, Experience & Times. Cheers guys, John
I heard you say that you some work to the H M200 I also use them but I have got a H M 3000 but there seams to be something wrong with the braking sym it will not stop the train some one told me it was something to do with a heat thermal all other sym seam ok
Wonderful video there John, seeing those Santa Fe GE locomotives reminds me when I saw their trains coming down from Cajon Pass in the California desert in 2002! Great memories.
Those locomotives were part of Santa Fe's "Super Fleet" locomotives used in high priority freight trains from Chicago to LA.
never thought id ever see Stevenson's Rocket. I hope you recreate your layout and its as amazing as that train!

It's great to see units from the US in your vids. I love the Santa Fe Warbonnet scheme. God bless and Jesus saves.
Great to see your Rocket running after posting a comment on one other video's of yours with the other Bachman 1800 running stock.

I was searching for videos on the rocket and there was a railway that had bung out lots of old steam engines and rocket was one of them.
Hi buddy, thanks for the comment. I assume when you say you still have the engine you mean the motor....not the body? Cheers, John.

Hi John, you are missing the handrails off the front and back of the Santa Fe units! Have you had them replaced since?
@jeffers550 Hi buddy, can you please be a bit more specific on the time of the video so I can see what train you are referring too? Cheers, John.

Wher did you get the santa fe locomotives from ?
Hi where did you get rocket from and how much was it
John do you think you'll be getting the new rocket?
What tracks do you use?
Do you have all three of the Triang coaches for the Rocket.
According to the 1979 "Hornby Book Of Trains" they were named "Liverpool", "Manchester" and "Dispatch".
i thought it was "Liverpool", "Experience" and "Times"
Neon Tube
You are both incorrect on this. Please see the latest message just added. best regards, John.
Hello again Andy. I have four coaches on the Rocket....you can see them at the top of the rise...at the back of my layout, on the last few vids. 2 of them are Experience & the other 2 are Dispatch. I don't have the one that says 'Times'.

That's a hard model to come bough.
Yes bud it is.....I was very lucky getting this one. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, John.
Anytime mate. :) I too have Stevenson's Rocket, but not the Hornby version like yours mine is a die-cast model made by Matchbox.
Dragon Zilla
Yeah thanks & no worries...thanks for the comments. Cheers, John.
You know I remember seeing the original Rocket at the Science Museum in London many years ago, but I see the two replicas at the NRM.
