    I don't have Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience, but I come from a SaaS background where I used Salesforce Sales Cloud/CRM pretty heavily and an interviewer did like the fact that I had Salesforce experience. I highly recommend their trailheads. It's very read-heavy, but you learn quite a bit and they do make it very digestible and fun. Also got my first dev job as an email dev recently, which is paying me $70k and more importantly, it's fully remote. It's been a really long journey, so hang in there and keep applying. Keep taking interviews even if it's not for the role you want for the interview experience. By the time I got the interview that mattered, I was fully prepared.

    Hi, Jashele...
    I really enjoyed watching your video. I do have some questions.
    You mentioned at around 2:51 that the email developer job you applied for required HTML and CSS but I was wondering how much HTML and CSS do you need to to be an email developer?
    Does it mainly involve "basic" HTML ( , , , etc...) and CSS (changing the color, background color, margin, etc...) or do you need more "advanced" knowledge such as CSS animations or how to use the various css "positions" to, say, make a text/image fit a certain way on a screen (I do know some CSS, but struggle somewhat with more complex css)?
    Also, for your email developer position, did you also need to know Bootstrap, Tailwind, Semantics UI or any other CSS library or preprocessors such as SASS or LESS?
    Thank you for sharing your video!

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David, glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 Coding for email focuses heavily on table-based coding - www.campaignmonitor.com/dev-resources/guides/coding-html-emails/
      The basics that you mentioned are helpful along with getting solid with HTML tables - developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/HTML/Tables
      The CSS basics that you mentioned are good to know too, however, email development has its own unique pain points when it comes to CSS positioning and cross-browser compatibility. It deals with ensuring that emails are functional across all email clients - outlook, gmail, etc. Unfortunately, the "hacks" used in web development do not always work for email. Outlook can be the toughest one to work with - templates.mailchimp.com/development/css/outlook-conditional-css/
      For the last question, I did not need to know any libraries in my role at the time that I was there. The more senior people on the team developed several templates that had all the CSS kinks worked out and we used them as a guideline for most of our projects.

    What other required applications/websites do you use as an email developer? I’ve heard you must have a basic knowledge of Photoshop and know how to use Litmus.

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basic knowledge of Photoshop is definitely good to have. In my role, we had to take designs and sometimes break them down in Photoshop (the layers of text and images). And sometimes had to do resizing/cropping of images for the designs. You can easily be trained on Litmus and it's good you're already familiar with it or at least know about it.
      Email on Acid was another one - www.emailonacid.com/
      We also used Adobe Experience Manager - business.adobe.com/products/experience-manager/adobe-experience-manager.html (for managing assets; this depends on the company)

    Hi Jashele, amazing video with very good information. Thank you!
    Tuesday I have my first phone interview as an HTML email developer, and to be honest, I'm a bit nervous,
    what questions to expect? if you can tell me a few, will be amazing for me! Thank you and have a lovely day!

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoyed! And congrats on the interview! 🎉
      Questions vary based on the company but in the beginning, I had to introduce myself and just talk a bit about myself.
      I was asked about any previous coding experience including tools (i.e. github, command line, etc).
      They were interested to know -- why Email Development?
      What do I need in a project manager?
      Those were the gist of the questions from what I can remember!
      Good luck to you! 🙌

    I’m currently in a bootcamp and thinking of going into email development after. I don’t have a degree do you think the bootcamp alone is enough (education wise) to get an html email development job ? And do u think email development is a good entry level job?

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Congrats on your bootcamp journey! 🙂There are so many companies out there that do not require a degree or even bootcamp. Many will just ask for your portfolio / projects you've built so that they can see your work. Email Development is definitely a great place to start! It'll give you some great front-end experience. Good luck to you! 🙌

    How long would it take to become an email developer if i know nothing about code

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  ปีที่แล้ว

      The length of time depends on how much time you put into gaining the skills needed - i.e. HTML, CSS. And also whenever you're at the point of feeling comfortable with putting your skills to use. 🙂 MDN has a great (free) course on getting started with development for beginners - developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/Getting_started_with_the_web

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With email development, it allows for a more customized approach if you're building from the ground up. I haven't used any email marketing software personally but I would imagine that there are limitations whereas with developers you can just build whatever you want.

    Need a little Advice, Jashele or anyone with enough experience, i'm currently going through an html/css program and working on a clone project and at the end of the project basically and somewhere in the build the instructor lost me between videos. Sometimes I look back at the code and things look different from what he previously built and i'm considering just abandoning it altogether. I feel like I took really good notes from the other videos and that the instructor did a great job explaining those previous concepts, but completely lost me despite my best efforts to copy every single thing he did. Since i've gone through the basics of what I'll need for html/css i'm thinking about just practicing and mastering individual concepts with videos on TH-cam and abandoning the rest of the projects. What would you do? (anyone can answer. thanks)

    • @escapetarkov3838
      @escapetarkov3838 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They tend to do that which sucks! The best thing you can do is watch youtube tutorials and try to recreate the spam email ads you get, like a sears sale or whatever the email is, try to save it and recreate it from a screen-shot, seeking out the individual issues(there will be TONS AND TONS at first!) until you have a completed email. Upload it to the github after making sure it's perfect and repeat until you don't have to google for every little thing.

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In an interview, you can let the employer know that you're interested in focusing your coding/development skills in that particular role. For example - if you're interested in specializing in email development, you should make that clear in an interview. Discuss what you really enjoy about email development (or whatever the role is). If you already enjoy web development, then express that you'd like to expand your skills into email development + talk about what you've learned so far about email development & what types of things drew you to the role (it shows passion/interest).

    What is table base coding?

    • @JasheleT
      @JasheleT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's coding a layout just with HTML tables. Check out MDN's article on HTML tables - developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Learn/HTML/Tables/Basics
      It's an extremely outdated way of coding layouts but is still used in email development due to the limited support of modern-day coding standards from email clients.
