  • Possible 1983 Transition Mint Error Found. This 1983 penny weighs 3.1 grams. Found while coin roll hunting.
    This is the unboxing video of the coin back from PCGS. Enjoy this moment with me as I learn if this coin is an authentic 1983 Copper penny, or did I just spend a good amount to grade a normal unremarkable zinc penny.

    Bro I can't believe you have less than a thousand subscribers. I shared it on my Facebook I hope you get some more subs after putting out content for over a decade.

      I appreciate the support. While the coin hobby has remained a constant, generating worthy content has slowed. That likely led to the lackluster growth in subscribers over the past 10+ years.

    That’s cool! I’ve been looking for this variety for many years. Never found one. And to be in MS condition, that’s especially cool. Congrats on the find.

    That 1983 copper penny that you graded in MS62BN is about $19,500

      crazy to think a coin of this value and condition survived 25 years of potential wear and environmental damage.

    This is great. I have 2 questions though. Do you know the avg price of the coin you got graded and do you think I should grade my 2000 Wide Am?

    • @xxJOBIIIxx

      It really depends on two things. One the condition of your coin. And two how much this coin means to you. Regarding condition, in high grades this could be fairly valuable justifying getting it graded. And same if it hold personal significance to you, as grading will also help preserve it for a long time.
      Can you send a high res photo front and back? Happy to take a look and offer an honest opinion.
      Hope this helps. And happy hunting!

    Nice find. I think the Memorial is another error should line up with the front. Take care

      I did notice the reverse is rotated from the front, though to be honest not until after I had the high resolution images back from PCGS. Not going to send it back for updating the slab description.
      Pretty good on you for noticing this in the video!

    Nice, I have a coin I am trying to decide if I should send it in to PCGS but I am trying to understand the cost explanation on their webpage. Can you help explain and understand this?

      Happy to try and help. I've added an email in my about page. Please provide as much info as possible and a quality image of the coin would be great as well.

    How did you come to realize that it was an error?

    • @xxJOBIIIxx

      There are a couple ways to tell. But this coin did not look like a regular zinc penny. And it also rang like a copper penny. And then there was the weight of the coin, which is a time consuming step to check.
      Honestly I set it aside to look for the 1983 DDR error in "CENT" on the reverse side of the coin, before considering it could ever be a copper 1983 error.

    • @lindak9571

      You just weigh them .

    • @xxJOBIIIxx

      It’s not a fun process (unless you find one), but weighing them is one of the best and least expensive steps to knowing if it is copper or zinc. This is unless you have a coin metal verifying device.

    How many millions of dollars is this worth

    • @xxJOBIIIxx

      I wish it were worth millions. I did however search around 10 million pennies to find this. And double to triple sorted those millions of pennies by hand.
