I lost my job about a year ago and I started feeding the squirrels from the neighborhood. There's this one guy I call Mr. Wilson who looks old and rough around the edges. One of his ears is split and he's missing big patches of fur. He's not as bulky as the others (Munky, Nike and Flaps) but he will chase the others away when he shows up to get his share of peanuts, walnuts and sunflower seeds (some apple chunks too). The other morning I heard someone at the back door and when I opened the door Mr. Wilson was hanging on my aluminum screen door handle and kicking his back legs making quite a ruckus. I guess I wasn't fast enough in placing the food out for him. He has taken a peanut from my hand prior to this but I try and limit contact. He now lets me put the nuts out without running away. The others will scamper off but no too far. They like to see why I opened the door. Mr. Wilson can hear the rustle of the peanut bag and will come running. There's also a white and calico cat I call Bob who stops by for a meal now and then. The squirrels really don't mind Bob coming around. They won't run off but will move off a little while Bob comes up to my door. I love all of these guys including the wrens, blue jays, grackles, cardinals and occasional tufted titmouse who stop in for a meal.
I'm sorry about your job. But thank you very much for your comment and for sharing your story and experience. 😊❤️ I also love all the animals who come to my window. Besides squirrels there are also many kinds of birds, racoons and recently I saw a rabbit passing by. 😊🐿️🕊️🦝🐇🪟
Please don't change a thing; your videos are wonderful, and so relaxing with a natural sights and sounds "window" on all of the goings on from day to day as you so lovingly care for your beloved squirrels. Thank you so much for sharing them with us as well!
😂😂 The pressure of success with your regular customers, lol. Lovely. ❤❤ And at the risk of repeating what others say, please do NOT add any music, ever! The sounds and noises are perfect as they are! 😊
It amazes me how you can tell them apart and have named many of them. They all look like the same squirrel to me. They are very lucky you are there feeding them. Generally, the lack of food and dangerous environments they live in would have culled the herd considerably. There's so many of them because they know their human Mom will help them out when hungry. In the wild, the bigger males will usually chase off the smaller males so they form new colonies elsewhere. You've solved their biggest problem of making it easier for them to find food. Your truly a kind person for spending the money to feed them good quality nuts and stuff they might not have had much access to without you.
Wow, I have never seen so many squirrels. They soon catch on on where the yummy nuts are. The scene I often see at home is ‘squirrel medley’, a mix of black, grey and red squirrels. I love it. - And no music for me, I prefer to ear the occasional birds singing in the background and possibly hear the squirrel eating the nuts.
That sounds like a wonderful scene, but where do you live that you see three kinds of squirrels? I only have gray squirrels in my area and very rare black. And thank you for your feedback. 😊
The most I have gotten in my squirrel 🐿️ refuge is about 12 or so.. Your group is more reserved than ours.. Nobody can harder on a squirrel, than another squirrel 🐿️!!! I like the background noise very much.. Please keep it.. God bless...
Wow! This really answers so many questions I had. I was wondering what time of day they start coming to the window to eat (how early). Now I see that they are there early in the morning, waiting for you to come feed them! That warms my heart. To see how well you take care of so many sweet animals. They know they can count on you! That is so wonderful. We need more people like you in this world. 🌎 🐿️ 💕
I notice how the squirrels all seem to have the same allowed distance between each other. When another squirrel impinges on this there is a quick response and it gets chased away. Squirrels are fascinating little fur balls.
Such a pleasure seeing the squirrels feed on the good healthy food you provide. I hope you get lots of donations! Food is expensive here. Your channel is just lovely. Thank you
I absolutely love your channel, and the wind/traffic/fridge/ac noise just adds to the whole natural realness of it all. That said though, interjecting a bit of classic rock now and again could add another layer of enjoyment 😉
Lol I usually have 6 siblings that come by me. There’s usually one that likes to climb my screen on my sliding door to let me know that they’re hungry. 😂. I just tell them…don’t tear the screen, that’s all I ask. 😊
😂🤣 Same i have 5 squirrels and 2 pigeons that come twice a day to feed and now i spending alot buying 🥜 its funny watching pigeons barging in and fighting with 🐿 over 🥜
Curious thing I never noticed before... the very tips of theit tails is independantly mobile.... a cat or dog tail operates as a part of an "assembly"... theirs works like a fingertip.
As long as they all have food and respect each others personal space, they get along very well. But they do chase each other sometimes. Check this video if you want to see a high-speed chase of Smoothie chasing another squirrel: th-cam.com/video/ilm7rYyVuMk/w-d-xo.html
Did you know that they can play dead:). I was throwing out walnuts in the shell to about a group of 10 and they were all running around and chasing each other and then these two had a head on collision and one fell over on it’s side! I was beside myself because I thought it had a mortal injury. The other one ran off looking for the walnuts and then the first one lifts his head up to make sure the coast was clear then gets up and he’s got a walnut underneath him. He takes his walnut and scampers up the tree. Funniest thing ever! I never knew they did that as adults:)
The background noise didn't bother me either, but I prefer music in the background, I love music. 🎶 🙂💕 So many cute squirrels, and how orderly they are! I liked the personal space thing, I agree! 🐿️👍🏼
Thank you for your comment and your questions. The first squirrel, whom I named Almond, came to my window 3 years ago. I have a video about him and his first few times at the window: th-cam.com/video/TFzG1DXdi2o/w-d-xo.html And I'm planning to make a video pretty soon about what I feed them and another one about what they like to eat the most, so stay tuned for that 😊
@@Squirrels_at_the_window My wife and I have been feeding our back yard Squirrels for over 3 years now and they come to our deck several times every day. We feed them various food such as peanuts in shell, unshelled walnuts, pecans, hazel nuts and almonds (everything unsalted). During the winter we serve them the same nuts but in shell. In addition, we feed them sunflower seeds, corn on the cob and avocados. We always have a glass bowl of fresh water next to the food as they get very thirsty and it is very cute to see their little tongues lapping up the water. I prefer the natural noises. ❤ That's part of what makes these videos so calming to me.
I think music would override the sounds the squirrels make. Stick with this!
Your window must be known as ''best dinner in town'' amoung the squirrels community 😃😃
Leave the noises!
Love their chewing sounds. :)
Amen to that! Yes Love Love hearing their sounds. General background noise if very minimal and never bothersome.
You feed them, and they will come!! 🤗♥️
