Hi Claire! I had a 4 day weekend, and planned to do the autumn turn around, but the weather is holding on for another couple of weeks, so I'm doing the same! Had one ever so slight frost last week, just on the edges of the beds and in the wild field. No damage, even to to tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes chillies etc. Phew! Still got lots of tomatoes to come. (Understatement!). I tried to put my tray of chard and Chinese leaf for winter in the greenhouse ... But a certain wee 🐈⬛ of mine seems to have been "helping". He seems to have strong opinions about thinning my seedlings - he did the same to my lettuce in spring, and the beetroot last year. Mostly he leaves everything alone, he just seems to think crowded small leafy things are Not On! I've been following your advice on the celeriac too! I'm definitely growing lots more next year. Since I have no luck with "neeps" (swedes). Possibly even this damp year was just too dry. My fennel is doing the same. Plus I'd never know if it was fennel, chamomile, dill or horsetail fern (all of which grow pretty much right next to the fennel. I might use pop socks like you used the bags... I didn't get much you could call bulb either, but some chunky stems that I used, plus the frondy bits.
Hi Kirsty. We got away lightly with the frost here too. Only the one courgette and the melons affected, but to be fair they were all pretty much end of season anyway. No new flowers on the courgette for a while. Pleased to hear you avoided any issues in your growing space. Phew! Been warmer here since the frost but very windy and wet. Seems that’s also giving the squash a hard time too. Even my parsnips look a bit unhappy with the wind they’ve endured. I cannot wait to harvest the celeriac. I’m very excited for it. Celeriac mash and soup are divine! I want to grow celery next year as well. I don’t like it in salads, so didn’t grow it. Forgot how important it is to soup and stews though. Silly me. What a cheeky, helped puddicat you have. Well..I’m sure he thinks he’s helping anyway. He sounds like such a character. I love cats. Furry ninjas. I didn’t think to use the stems…I just assumed if they had run to seed they’d be less usable from an edible perspective. Whoops! Hope you have a great week. X
@@TheFarmyardGardenFelix is adorable - and he does his rodent control job perfectly. Some of the fennel stalks are too tough, but some are ok. I'll hope for bulb next year! My parsnips are ok, I guess they grew up with lots of wind. It's always windy here. But really they are sheltered by the greenhouse on the north west side and the hot beds to the west, so maybe that helps. Have eaten 3 huge ones :-) I had a ton of celery seed this year from one that survived all year and went to seed. The insects LOVE it, also the beet gone to seed. I'll be sure to leave one deliberately this year!

Hello, I was always told to plant two varieties of corn together because of pollination. Not sure if that is correct. Thanks for sharing your garden with us. Blessings
hi Hi Vicki Lovely to see you join the community. Welcome. From advice I received during the summer, it seems we don’t want corn to cross pollinate as it can affect the flavour and make them not so delicious. Mine isn’t ripe enough yet, but I’ll keep you posted on whether it’s caused me any issues in the next few weeks. Hoping the sharp frosts hold off a bit so it has chance to ripen fully.
I love cleaning up. Need to catch up on everything at the minute though. We've had two frosts already, going to rain for the next week up here though now 🫣 Loved your garden this year, looking forward to seeing cauliflowers next year 😂

Have eaten 3 huge ones :-)
I had a ton of celery seed this year from one that survived all year and went to seed. The insects LOVE it, also the beet gone to seed. I'll be sure to leave one deliberately this year!
@@kirstypollock6811 I would love to see pictures of your growing space. It sounds lovely and inspiring.
Felix sounds a perfect companion, knowing his job well. Good boy 😍
I love cosmos
We are thinking of planting it along our stack yard next year.
Hello, I was always told to plant two varieties of corn together because of pollination. Not sure if that is correct. Thanks for sharing your garden with us. Blessings
hi
Hi Vicki
Lovely to see you join the community.
We've had two frosts already, going to rain for the next week up here though now 🫣
Loved your garden this year, looking forward to seeing cauliflowers next year 😂
We have changeable weather forecast too. Busy busy time
Two frosts already.. yikes! winter is really around the corner. Here’s hoping those cauliflower do work for next spring
I have so many swede coming!!!😅
Woo hoo ❤️❤️
lol 😂 I've seen the Malvern from 3 people now and it's all so different
I didn’t see anywhere near the amount of stuff on sale! Devastated I didn’t see the cordon apple trees
No luck with beetroot this year either. In the last two years, I have had loads.
Weird isn’t it? I multi-sowed last year and they were brilliant
I love a good tidy up 😊
And putting those bags on.... how long were you actually there for 😂
Great swede 💚 I'm growing it next year and can't wait 🎉
Too long for TH-cam 😂😂😂😂😂
@@TheFarmyardGarden haha they look good though 👍🏽
They look hilarious when I walk on a near empty plot now 😂😂
@@TheFarmyardGarden 🤣 even with the green? You'll need to video it so we can see what you see 😂

Hi Joe
Lovely to see you pop up in the comment community. Hope you are well x
Maybe that bed needs Boron? Weird it’s only in one bed and not in others.
Ooo off to google boron.. thank you
Did you direct sow or modular sow your beetroot?
i direct sowed some later, earlier ones were modular sown in the polytunnel
@@TheFarmyardGarden I find direct sowing better and thinning out, but a lot struggled getting them germinated… I find modular sowing a bit hit n miss as they really can be fussy with root disturbance if left too long in the cells
@Garden-of-weeden I probably left them far too long then. The ones I did as baby beets were direct sown last year
@@TheFarmyardGarden could just be one of those things hun! Next year you’ll be inundated with them…. Feast or famine lol x
@@Garden-of-weeden absolutely! I can well imagine. I’ll sow a bed full, more spread out, and be begging people to take some 😂
Ok that one is a little small
Butternut squash soup for those on a minimalist diet 😂
Planting the 2 types of corn together won't effect the taste
That’s good to know. A lot of people said it can make it inedible, so I was worried
