I bought a large string of pearls that I promptly killed within a couple months. BUT before it totally died I propagated as much as I could, changed its location and it’s still going strong over a year later!
She reminds me of a plant version of Rachel ray and I love it! Just got my string of pearls and I am so excited to see it become as lush as that big boy!!
I put various hair nets over plants when transplanting. Sometimes I use very open mesh and other times I use very close weave, even a satin sleep cap at times-it keeps everything in place and I can even tip pot over if I need too. Prickly ones -I use a thicker plastic shower cap.
I bought a huge one from my local florist, she had it hanging at the window & told me she got it when she first purchased the shop 10 years ago 👀 doing all I can do to keep her going, love her so much & so proud of her growth!!! 👑 thank you for these stellar tips 💗
I love this video! I’m always googling care tips for the plants I buy, and watching endless videos about how to care for them, and they are rarely this straight forward and informative. Would love to see more!
I just bought one today! It’s a little neglected, with some burnt ends and shrivelled pearls, but with this video I’m confident in my care taking! Thank you!
This video makes me feel more confident to try again with a string of pearls. I had a bad time with root rot. I tried to replant them twice and had the same problem. So I will try again with these tips! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻
I have a succulent named John and he’s the love of my life!! He’s a little spider succulent and I’m going to start increasing my plant family and I think I’m going to start with a string of pearls plant :D I was smiling the whole way through this video bc of how cute it was😊
I've been using coffee filters in my pots for a VERY long time. At first I had to trim the large ones that fit coffee urns (from my father's restaurant) down lots of times. I guess I was 12-years old the first time I used one. I was planting seeds for a 4-H project! Of course, I thought I was a genius when they worked so well. I'm now 64 and still won't pot up a plant if I'm out of coffee filters. 💜
i just got two cuttings of string of pearls and its in some soil hiding behind some big pots so basically bright indirect sunlight. havent watered her but she did get rain water the other day and all i see is new little pearls of growth im so excited hehehehehehe
Hi. Love your videos and information. I want to share a repotting tip that I saw on another TH-cam channel (can’t remember which). If you put a pot of the same size as the original one that the plant is currently in into the new pot you are moving it to and then pack soil around the empty pot you can then remove the empty pot and there will be an almost perfect hole that the plant will fit in so you don’t need to potentially damage the plant packing soil around it. Your soil will need to be damp so it holds its shape but otherwise you can just drop the plant into the hole and you are basically done. I thought that was an awesome idea.
"I think it's always fun to see an unusual and different looking flower" --Couldn't agree more, Laura! :) How does one seriously find any living plant "unattractive?!"
Yes it would be so helpful, I often google it later but then forget how it applied to the important points...one day I'll learn haha. So lovely to learn from you Laura!
I remember seeing String of Pearls a long time ago when they were popular; then they disappeared completely from the market for about 25 years and now making a comeback, which is great since I am a SOP lover. This was very informative, thank you!
The string are tears are nice if you like them similar to string of pea's but no cigar lol. They are oval and pointed at one end. Not as long as string of banana's but 3/4's that size of leaf. Pretty but I prefer the pearls as I don't have much hanging room left for trailing plants, but they are nice.
That was my mother prctise with repotting, specialy with plants that she like a lot and didn`t want to hurt, she would cut a pot, or, she used a lot of teracota pots, she would crack/break pott rather then hurt the plant :D
Thank you for this video on string of pearls. I have one that seems to be struggling, but i can see now, it is due to my over watering. I will follow your direction and wish for the best..thank you
I love the looks of the string of pearls there so different and neat . And that fact that they bloom a flower is amazing . Thank you all your educational videos , Iv learned so much just from watching them .
I’m so happy that you featured this plant. A friend gave me a start about 7 months ago. It’s taken hold and I wasn’t sure how to pot it! Thank you so much for sharing! Blessing to you and your little family! 😊
Thank you sooo much for this video! By far the most informative I’ve seen on this plant! I’m a beginner with plants and mine was struggling which led me to find your channel. So helpful ❤️ I adore the flowers! And what a neat fact about the little “windows” for sunlight. Nature is really something!
Love this video. I remember my mom having this plant when I was a little girl, and my sister gifted me a small one that was just starts coiled on the surface like you showed. Now it has roots and it’s starting to cascade over the sides a bit. Thank you for all the info.💕
Thanks for all the amazing tips! I watched this and was able to bring back my almost dead string of pearls back to life. Starting from almost zero, but it’s looking amazing and I’m hopeful that I didn’t kill it. 💙🌱🌵
I really like you miss Laura how the way you talk and the way you explain about your plant, also i like this plant.before I forgot congratulations for your more than 1 millions subscribers, God bless you always, watching from Australia.
Thank you so much for all your clear detail in potting, caring for & growing plants. The String of Pearls is a beautiful unique plant, and I plan on getting one when I move. I enjoy all your videos. God bless
I need to look into ordering one of these none of my garden centers ever carry them. I love how they look. Thank you so much for these videos. Thanks to you I actually have managed to grow succulents for more than a year!! Thank you!!🌱🌵
Very informative! Appreciate the index at the beginning of the video. Please make more of these types of videos for indoor plants. House plant profiles for the win!
Got my first one today small but stunning was tricky at first and lost a few little pearls but kept them and filled a few spaces with the few that had fallen it’s now hanging in my bathroom and I look forward to seeing it grow
Thanks for the tips on string of pearl, I just ordered one and now I know how to care of it. Love your videos and the information you provided us you are awesome 👌👏😎
Thanks so much for your awesome easy to follow tips 🙏🙂 Today I bought my 4th string of pearls because every other one has died 😢 I wish I had of found your excellent video and tips earlier. I absolutely love this plant & I’m determined to master the art of growing it! 🤞🤞❤
I could listen to you talk for hours! Thank you so much for your time and money spent making this video for us. I think you just doubled my plant knowledge :D
Hey Laura, that's great. For the first time my string of pearls died because of over watering and wrong soil mix. Yesterday I bought another one and hope it works out this time. Your video is quite helpful. Thanks a lot.😃
This is such an informative video! Thanks so much. I've had a string of pearls for almost a year with very little growth, but I'm going to give all of these tips a shot. Wish me luck, y'all.
I have been trying to grow this String of Pearls for a few tries now with no luck!!! I am SO glad that I found your video, I learned that I have been watering WAY too much and without ANY fertilizer!! Also, I finally just bought a small pot of more already established plant and life was good...UNTIL I DROPPED IT TODAY!!! I didn't do too much damage but want to make the most out of the few strings that broke off, but wasn't sure the correct transplant rules. Now I know...thank you for this informative and simple video!!! :)
Hi Laura! Thank you thank you for this video. My husband got me a string of pearls a couple of weeks ago. I have been wanting one for so long. I propergated and put it with succulents on my dining table center piece with a lot of bright light and so far is doing awesome. I just learned how to fertilize so thank you. Your string of pearls is beautiful!
I purchases a succulent dish garden because it had a tiny bit of 'String of Pearls' mixed in it. Now I understand why it didn't make it. If I have to purchase another dish garden to get some again, I will remove it to a pot of its own. Thank you so much for all the wonderful info.
These are my favorite! I looked all over for one and found this little local succulent shop and noticed he had one plant. He said it wasn't for sale but he ripped a piece off for me and said "stick it in succulent dirt". I did but it shriveled, turned brown and died. I was so sad! This is so informative. Hopefully I can find one in the future
I just got my first string of pearls!!! WOOT! I wanted to know how to propagate it, some strings were broken, so you were the first go to for help - immediately found it on your channel! Thank you so much 👍
Any advice for how to make your string of pearls full like the one you are using in your video? Mine aren't full, and really only grow on one side of the pot. I have plant envy over your string of pearls!
Awesome! I just got my string of pearls and it loves the grow light and decided to flower. I have to see what that smells like now. My brother and I started calling these ‘peas on a vine’ 😁 Thanks for the tips, wasn’t aware of the slightly different care needs.
This was by far the BEST educational video on a specific plant!!! I hope you do this with different types of house plants eg Pothos, Monstera Adisonni, "Pilea", Calatheas etc....... THANK YOU for opening up our eyes!
Great information on string of pearls plant. I have one that I ordered online at a succulent store. It arrived looking pretty healthy. I've had it for about 1 month now, I'm going to transplant it into a bigger pot.. Love all the info you gave on this!
Thanks I got a string of peals and it is green and white very pretty. I hope mine lives. I got it in a south east window and I got a grow light for the winter months when I pull my plants away from my window for the winter.
YES! I have given up trying..... too many un necessary deaths! Out of a deep respect for all life, I have elected to leave them on the nursery shelf. My aunt grows them like weeds, no problem. I just kill the poor things.
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. You are such a great teacher! I just got my string of pearls so hopefully with your tips i can keep it alive and thriving
I highly recommend to repot or reroot plant into your own soil succulent mix, I used Happy frog,it's quick draining and has nutrients, you can always had a little bit like a quarter mix,in a shallow hanging container, not by choice it grows in a east window, gets sun in the growing season.Doesnt take long to root them in water if your useing this method,it's good to monitor them before adding soil, watching their health, roots grow long ,I like watching them making sure they don't shrival like in the soil trying to root them in soil could be the downfall by far!
I love that you included pet toxicity. All videos should include this. As someone that’s just starting to incorporate plants into my home, this is an important subject because I have both, cats and dogs.
Thank you so much for this great video! You inspire me!!! I bought crassula a few months ago and now it’s starting to bloom! Could you please share a few tips on how to take care of a crassula after blooming and encourage new pups! Thank you again for these very informative videos! Love them😍😍😍😍 you are the best!!!
Putting it into a much larger pot doesn't actually"shock" it. It seems to delay growth bc when it goes into a much larger pot the plant will take time to produce/grow/concentrate on more root development to fill the pot and then it will grow its foliage. The same kind of thing does happen in the ground also. There are lots of rocks, roots, and other large chunks of things in the ground which can mimic the"feeling" of a pot for the plant. Since the ground has no real size limit the plant can grow larger faster.
Thank you so much for this info, I have a string of pearl outdoors but have wanted one for inside as well, yet wasn't sure if it would tolerate indoor living. I love this plant so pretty and whimsical~
Thank you so much! I bought a small one last year for my office. It is so pretty and everybody wants one. I water mine once a week but I need to get it some fertilizer. I want one as large as yours!!
Perfect timing! I have 4 of these coming in the mail any day now. I killed my first one, and I think it's because I had it in an arrangement with some other succulents and let the soil get too dry. So I'm excited to try again now that I know how to better take care of them! Thanks for all the helpful and inspiring videos!! ❤️🌵
I just bought my first string of pearls today! Named rosarios in spanish like the one people use to pray 🤗.. your video is going to be so helpful..love you share so many details! 💜
I recently got a sting of pearls and I'm so excited to see it grow! Only, it started to shrivel up and I realise now that I think it's because I haven't watered it enough after accidentally over-watering it lol. I've also moved it into the windowsill to give it more light so hopefully it'll perk up a bit!
Thanks Laura I just bought a string of pearls today. They are very beautiful plants. And this info helped me out how to care for my new addition to my plants 🌱🌿
I love string of pearls... planted some at home but I had no idea about the soil.. thanks for the info. The way u talk was very graceful .. nice to watch u talk..:-)
YAAAS!!! Please do more of these types of videos for different plants/succulents because as pretty as they are and as much as I try and take care of them, I end up killing them. :-( This format and the topics covered is extremely helpful. Thank you for your perspective and time in creating these gems for wanna-be gardeners like myself. :-)
I have always have been scared to re-pot my cactus and plants... thanks for the great tips on re-potting and propagating. Love the String of Pearls...so cool... :)
Thank you so much for mentioning about cats. I usually browse Google but it was nice that you went ahead and mentioned it. I was gifted some strands to propagate and I'm new so excellent information. I'll plan to hang it center of the ceiling in kitchen so kitties have no way to reach her. :)
Thanl you for covering thoroughly about about the string of pearls . Now I can care for it better. I really appreciate you soooo much you have help me so improve all my gardening & all my plants you such fresh & creative ideas. Keep it coming.
Your video was perfect timing. I just got a string of peals. You video was really interesting and informative. Thank you. I’m going to try and grow more
Thank you for this information. In my area this plant is very hard to find, but one of my very favorite. I was unsuccessful twice this year trying my hand at growing it. I will use your tips and try for a third
This was a great video, i would have liked to hear more about what happens when you don't care for them properly. I just bought a small one a week ago and found many of the pearls were rotting.
I bought a large string of pearls that I promptly killed within a couple months. BUT before it totally died I propagated as much as I could, changed its location and it’s still going strong over a year later!
Oh my!
I have had that happen with many house plants. Sometimes the stores that have them overwater and can cause root.
I got weeks. WEEKS. I have 2 strands that are alive but they're tiny. So I just left them in the pot and hope I can propogate as they get longer
@@City0FDreams I always seem to kill my string of -- anything

That’s the healthiest string of pearls I have ever seen.
String of pearls is honestly one of my fave succulenttypes
Solveig Ona Gjul mine too. I’m new in the “succulent world” but pearls are my fav, they’re just gorgeous
Me too! It was on my plant bucket list!
I put various hair nets over plants when transplanting. Sometimes I use very open mesh and other times I use very close weave, even a satin sleep cap at times-it keeps everything in place and I can even tip pot over if I need too. Prickly ones -I use a thicker plastic shower cap.
this is a really good idea!

Ilove all of God's creation, and bringing live plants into the home are a good way to enjoy their beauty up close and personal

John lol!! What’d you end up naming the pearls? Margret? Amber?
I flatten out a paper coffee filter in the bottom of the pot. Keeps soil in the pot and water passes through.
Just wondering if there's any chance that, with videos involving temperature, Celsius could be popped up on screen?
Yep! We’ll try to add that next time! 😀
Yes it would be so helpful, I often google it later but then forget how it applied to the important points...one day I'll learn haha. So lovely to learn from you Laura!

I just got a beautiful rosary bead plant. I like your way of building up new soil around the sides. A cup of soil to hold the plant.
YAAAS!!! Please do more of these types of videos for different plants/succulents because as pretty as they are and as much as I try and take care of them, I end up killing them. :-( This format and the topics covered is extremely helpful. Thank you for your perspective and time in creating these gems for wanna-be gardeners like myself. :-)

Thank you so much for mentioning about cats. I usually browse Google but it was nice that you went ahead and mentioned it. I was gifted some strands to propagate and I'm new so excellent information. I'll plan to hang it center of the ceiling in kitchen so kitties have no way to reach her. :)
