    The first time I saw a Thomas Kinkade painting I cried. It touched a part of my soul and stayed there. His paintings often give me the feeling of being in another era and if I walk close enough to the painting I can walk right into the scene. His paintings have given me the feeling of content, calmness, peace and they have the power to make me smile when I don't think I can. It's sad the world had to lose a person with so much talent. Thomas Kinkade deserved more recognition for this talent. His touches of light alone are one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

    I'm an artist and I love Kinkade's works. I really like his semi-impressionistic style and, in particular, his use of color. Artists generally don't care what the critics think. Art critics didn't like Rockwell, or Ross, either. Paint what you love. I paint and draw for myself. If others like it, great. If not, I don't care. As a viewer, you like what you like. There's no wrong way to approach it. A work of art moves all of us in different ways.

      Very great skills, but not a new, authentic, surprising, or even slightly unexpected idea in his head. For postcards, greeting cards, book illustrations (especially, perhaps, for fairy tales) his oeuvre is perfect. But in what he pretended to be… nope.

      A God given talent to a man who magnified those abilities to perfection, but then threw it all away by drinking himself to death! Just imagine how many more masterpieces would most assuredly have been created had he gotten off the alcohol and lived!! His sweet wife who stood by him all those years through all the hard times, believing in him and helping him sell his paintings, and helping him ultimately see great success and wealth, divorced him 2 yrs before he died. A sad sad ending to a amazingly talented painter and self proclaimed Christian.

    Thomas Kinkade had an amazing eye for creating ambient light and color variation in his paintings. Truly one of my favorite landscape artists of all time. Anybody that understands color theory and painting convincing light will notice this in Kinkade's work. Truly a master of light and color. I'm sure he will get the recognition he deserves in the future as a great artist.

      I've read critics on the web, some people criticized the lit windows (every window lit from inside) and the chimneys with smoke, unfortunately that is true as I observed, I just wish he didn't overdo his paintings i this way, not always but often, it could be a let done in the long run, so to speak. I myself really like many of his works, they are out of this world...

    • @phaneserichthoneus8895
      @phaneserichthoneus8895 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I've read a little of what's been written by critics and they seem to think the atmospheres of his paintings are too sweet, too perfect, too unrealistic, and not like real life. Well, I say: who cares? So there are no dirty old dumpsters in his paintings. So there are no dead trees or cow patties. So almost everything is landscaped to perfection. There's nothing wrong with a manicured living space full of color and light! And I'd bet that if any of these critics were offered, free of charge, some filthy old run-down shack surrounded by mud and weeds or a serene home surrounded with beautiful trees and flowers and clean, sparkling water, where it always rains at just the right time and in just the right amount to keep all the plants healthy, they would take the latter. Their criticisms of Kinkade's works are full of dishonesty and jealousy. Maybe they don't want to take the time to put that much effort into a painting, so they're angry with those who do and come out with far better results.

      I heard years ago that whenever true excellence appears in life, it always excites envy, and I firmly believe that's what happened with Mr. Kinkade. The self-declared art "critics" that nobody outside of NYC pays attention to, and much lesser artists were jealous of Mr. Kinkade, not just because of his phenomenal commercial success, but because his glorious style touched the hearts of millions and easily made him one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. The sheer beauty of his work resonated so strongly outside the narrow halls of the modern-abstract-contemporary art establishment that he didn't need to please the gatekeepers at their museums and auction houses or get their approval to become a HUGE success...and they resented him for it. He was a populist painter, and they HATED that no matter how they trashed him in their high-end magazines, it had zero effect on his success. If the truth were known, I believe forces high up in the art world played a part in the lawsuits that were filed against him, and their friends in the media were more than happy to pile on the negative press coverage. It was relentless. No wonder he started drinking. They destroyed him because they hated him, and they hated beauty.

    • @omdraws7325
      @omdraws7325 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well said. I think the fine art critics undermine his works for being kitsch, lacking conceptual merit. They are illustrative and that is perceived as undeserving of post modernist belief systems in the fine art canon.

    As a landscape painter, some of his artworks are the finest I have ever seen by any contemporary artist. His Garden of Prayer, to my eyes, is a masterpiece!

    Kinkade's paintings don't really suit my taste but this video was fascinating - tremendous amount of skill involved, very interesting to see the different layers and how the composition changed as he went along, plus little details like the charcoal drawing over the underpainting (didn't know you could do that!) and scraping the nubs of paint off with the palette knife.
    I see a few people asking why he skipped so much of the process - because painting something this detailed in oils takes days! It would be a very long video! Anyway, he was not intending to teach, just to give an insight into his process for the sake of interest, I think.

    Quite amazing that he creates his images without any reference......in life or photo. He just draws from imagination. Unless he has a process (such as photo shop) that he keeps to himself, his ability to imagine tonal value under specific light that varies throughout the painting is almost unheard of.

    I really enjoy Kinkade's artworks. It always reminds me of my childhood, there's something so special about the way he expressed the sceneries through his artistic eyes, it's nostalgic. People dislike him so much because of factors outside of his work. Such as his political views or how he expressed his religion. I will admit that people’s hatred for Kinkade has gotten a bit out of hand, even calling his paintings “kitsch”. I do think it is foolish to call a simple painting with years of skill put into it a “kitsch” but people will have their opinions I guess

      @@aprilrain5553 yeahh that's correct, and I also figured out most of his works are very commercialized and often sold as different range of products such as decoration painting, puzzles, printed rug....etc, rather than most paintings that appear in exhibitions, museums. And as a result, his works to many people are rather just something that are pleasing to look at and enjoy, and not to be gazed in an artistic way. For people who are not familiar to the art subject, they'd think his works are beautiful because the main attraction to them towards those paintings are mostly the color palete, the theme and details which appears in his work. But to artists, his works mean nothing to them because according to them, there's no such meanings that are hidden in his work and mostly it's just a pointless painting that just appear to be pretty to look at, and not to mention, most artists disliked the commercializion of art from individuals. So therefore, I think this is the reason why his works are very disliked toward the art community because such factors like these

      Both Rockwell and Kinkade were merely successful commercial illustrators. Predictable, tame, unchallenging. Contributed nothing of value to the traditions and development of art, but, certainly lined their pockets. Hacks..,

      Jeff Monik and that's OK...why spend HOURS AND HOURS DRAWING, ETC (READ ALL THE THINGS HE DOES TO GET THAT IDEA) and you'll understand..he shouldn't paint for dimes..........I wouldn't......and I paint!
      The famous Wylan who paints MURALS ON BUILDINGS AND FAMOUS FOR HIS SEA LIFE charges A LOT OF $ per painting...so be it........you don't work for free right...........

      ***** I apparently DID compare Rockwell to Kincaid. Don't like it? Oh well. (Shruggs). I might b able to agree with your opinions on the prints and how he didn't touch them except for the originals, but it's not like I can just go find a Rockwell painting for less to nothing in itself. Cottages?! Ummmm....you're not up to par with your Kincaid knowledge are ya? The Man done more than just cottages. There's images of San francisco, new york, Disney paintings, and many others. DO.....

    I like how the name Twilight Cottage makes it sound like it’s split between two dimensions. Imagine one where instead of a cozy cottage by the riverside, you see a darkened sky, dead trees, and a cottage emitting an ominous red glow, while the quad symbol is on the door, while magma flows where the river is. Lovecraftian entities wander in the background.
    But you don’t have to worry, as you’re a ranger and you have a nail gun.

    This is ,🤯crazy: I just watched "Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage" movie, earlier today, and now I watch this video which I found in recommended.. and I loved painting, especially the light.. it made me think about movie I watched earlier.. so I go back to history list, and realized it's all connected.. Awesome! I'm maybe a little slow😁, but doesn't matter, I loved that movie, I loved the story about light, and I love your paintings a lot ❤️😁

As if I were walking down the winding paths myself and experiencing the rippling of the water, the chirping of the birds and the effect of the light. - Thank you for that, for a piece of ideal world, in an otherwise hopeless world. May the God of the Bible richly bless you for this.

    Just as some prefer jazz while others prefer classical, I'm a fan of contemporary art and not a fan of Kinkaid. BUT, I really enjoyed this painting demonstration. He had a great voice and manner and obviously a true passion for his work. He could have rivaled Bob Ross as a TV art instructor. (I'm not sure how he painted over all that charcoal and kept his colors clean. Maybe his underpainting was acrylic and varnished before starting the oils?)
