Thank you, it does feel like its disjointed like that. Personally, the overall plot to me feels pretty generic for a zombie story, but not really bad exactly. It's the characters, the story focuses all its energy on playing with characters that just feel adolescent at best and down right irrational at worst. I cant think of one redeeming quality of any of the main cast that isn't undermined at some point, and character motivations are consistently unclear, not to mention how plot points have little to no buildup and many of the characters seem to be caricatures for the sake of the developer appearing to give minority representation. I do give it props early game for the tension of freaker heavy locales with your underpowered weapons and non-pinpoint accuracy. But by the time I started actively seeing and dealing with Hordes, I could wipe them out with most blue tier rifles and submachine guns with a couple standard molotovs.
@@TheLEGENDofTydo Days Gone is a mediocre game for me but I can say that I will never forget Boozer. He's my favorite video game character at the moment.
I feel the retail version has a very dull lighting effects compared to E3 version. Given the fact its a zombie focused game the lighting in the retail is lott less scary 🤔
I like the dullness. High altitude and up north in the US feels like that looks. It's pretty cold up there and they did a good job making it look and feel like it. Take issue with Oregon.
@@sammiches2555 I was gonna say. As someone living in the Oregon the "Dull" grey weather is very common and a part of being in Oregon. So they got that part right I'd say.
The retail example is a noon setting on an overcast day while the E3 demo is late 'Golden Hour' just before sunset with clear skies. Without cloud coverage, the sun is a single point of light in the sky which casts hard shadows. The color of the sunlight at 'Golden Hour' is 'warmer' as it passes through more atmosphere to reach the surface, which is very cinematic and pleasing to the eye. During ~noon time, the sun is overhead and doesn't have to pass through as much atmosphere, so more 'blue' (or 'cool') light reaches the surface (making everything look more blue); also, a layer of cloud coverage diffuses the source of light and causes it to be much larger, which makes shadows look much softer.
@@danriordan6395 No, he's right, the lighting system looks really different. The retail version looks good for a PS4, but the E3 version has a lot more ambient occlusion and volumetric effects.
He confirmed he found that the lighting amongst other things is scaled back due to the performance of the PS4 Pro himself in this very video, possibly why it's overcast more often than not. The lighting is clearly better in the E3 one let's not kid ourselves here.
I honestly really liked the updates to the horses pathing. Nothing gets your adrenaline going more than being flanked by a second horde while trying to fend off the first one. Changes aside this game is phenomenal and I can't recommend it enough after all of the patches they've done to it.
That was my thought. I still think you could have animations but it would change the flow. All in all this definitely feels like a Vertical Slice which I can understand for those not familiar with that term might feel like a basket of lies but it is still the best way in my opinion to show different aspects of gameplay in a single video to show the feel of the game.
I’m glad there is a New Game+ option by now. I’m currently on my first run and I can’t shake the feeling of having dealt with many situations in a rather uncreative way. Maybe I explored too much of the map to soon before the story could progress accordingly. Most of the time when encountering a horde I just used molotovs and other explosives to quickly reduce their numbers. For my New Game+ I will try to use the environment much more, since that seems to be the intended (and also more rewarding) way to engage these encounters.
I can actually see why individual combat doesn’t seem as impressive as let’s say The Last of us, and why the game had so may bugs at launch, the focus of the devs went towards the danger of this zombies apocalypse, which isn’t one fast or strong zombie that could murder you, but angry mobs that won’t give up if you started to mow them down with a machine gun I gotta say, now that i see it, the Horde AI and the way they interact with the environment is pretty impressive
9:56 speaking on that change in the layout and how you wanted that “classic zombie scenario. There is a section in the game where you unlock the Napalm Molotov and take out your “first horde”. In that town there is a two story building which has the animation that was supposed to be at the saw mill. The scene plays with you running into the building and the animation plays with the doorway being blocked off and the horde pressing around the house. You can then walk up to the second story of the house over a balcony and see the horde trying to crawl their way up to you. Just wanted to mention that. So it wasn’t that the scene was “completely removed”. Just that it got relocated for a different horde.
The thing is that might be cool the first time you see them, but if you had to watch those same animations over and over through the game as he removes oil filters they may have gotten tiring.
@@metalmoonsanctuary4699 Thats why you add the option to turn it off. Asssasins Creed 3 had these options. I get what you mean though, the animations in red dead 2 killed the gameplay a lot.

Well, environmental kills are still a thing. They are pretty rare though and you basically only find them by accident. Only happened to me twice so far. Instead i got that, a very good story, TONS of stuff to do, giant hordes to murder like in the demo, a surprosing amount of weapons variety. Seriously, there are more guns than the last 2 call of duties or last 2 battlefield games and those are multiolayer shooter all about guns. Once they polish the performance (its really good but i experienced some very short freezes here and there. Not a problem for me thou. The loading screens are a bit annoying thou. They should do a naughty dog and have a big loading at the start) and perfect the gunplay, days gone 2 is gonna be AMAZING. I prefer days gone over horizon zero dawn by a long shot.
They modify game worlds to make it represent the game in a smooth and quick way, the e3 demo shows the game in from a few minutes to an hour, while playing the game, you have hours to experience it
If E3 demos wasn't scripted as hell, chances are the demo tester (if it isnt a computer-driven demo) would die from unpredictability. E3 don't have the best track record when showed live/relied on unscripted demo (there is a Playstayion game demo, don't remember the name, that during the E3 just after they said the battles will be "realistic", a giant crab showed up and there was a moment ef silence for the truth.). So I can understand that the actual game is a lot more unpredictable, and in a way it gives a little more challenge as people who watched the demo a few times would breeze through this fight.
@@Skillfulstone plus the E3 build has to be easier so they can show off the game. If it wasn't no one wants to watch a person demo a game dying over and over again in the same spot.

A lot of stuff look better in the retail... the shooting from the gun looks a lot better. The fire is a lot better. And a lot of things were shown in this video.
I'm not too far into the game yet but I've been enjoying it well enough. The sound cutting out bug can be kind of annoying sometimes. I've had it happen like four times in 15 minutes before but sometimes I can play for hours without it happening at all. I haven't fought a full sized horde yet (I found one near a NERO station but I was too afraid and ill equipped to try and fight it)
I’m enjoying the game but it has glitches and I’m not a fan of open world games with inconsistent climb heights and the slow ladders kinda suck but it’s a fun game
I think they had to do it because of the limitation of the consoles have, that E3 Demo is probably running on PS4 Pro. I have a standard PS4 and have being loving the game so far, but I feel like they had to downgrade the game because the console can't handle so much things, just the loading screen of this game is a pain. This game should have been released on PS5 and not PS4 in my opinion.
There aren't many demos for games that have made me want to buy a game outright, but Days Gone is one of them. Fantastic effort put into the side-by-side comparison! Subbed.
Honestly, the fact that the horde is so much more random is both realistic and increases the tension by a huge amount. A large herd of aggressive feral humans wouldn’t follow you in a straight line if they had multiple options of getting to you. This means you can’t just continuously run and occasionally turn to shoot and eventually be good; that would honestly make the horde boring. On a side note, I feel like Bend took out the small cutscenes to give the player a more constant feeling of control, since too many small cutscenes is something people tend to gripe about in games, but now some people are upset they’re not there? Make up your minds.

blnl4 spow my guess is although the filter looks good and all, it might hinder the gameplay as the filter might be too dark causing the player to not see certain things in the game. The e3 version is scripted so its slow and realistic to achieve that cinematic look whilst its not the same case as an average player might want to rush through it abit quicker so they probably thought removing anything like that filter which can hinder the gameplay is a good decision
It has to do with lighting not actual graphics, the demo lighting was fantastic, just a tad worse than RdR2’s which is the best one to date, but as the friend said, the dynamic weather system might have demanded too much already of the system, and they sacrificed the superb lighting for it, they could have also had it set that way just for the gameplay cinematic look.
@@aristonaragao3171 Cinematic or not, they should shown us the game as how it looks, without any modification Or people would think they lied to them. And no one wants to revive the Watch_dogs trauma

Tbh, like in the GOW E3 demo, they both had warmer look to them and i ended up liking the retail more. The weather in the demo was probably pre-set so it could look more impressive. @First name last name Not when it isn't actual false advertisement. E3 videos ALWAYS have a disclaimer that say a work in progress or something along those lines.
I've been playing this game on pc recently and it really surprised me. There's an insane ammount of attention to detail, but it is inconsistent, there are things that look unfinished or wasted opportunities. It feels like the team behind this game was really talented and knew what they were doing, because the game does a lot of things right, but in the end it also feels like it was rushed and a lot of ideas were left out or underdeveloped to make it in time to the release date they were given. All in all, I still recommend the game. I'm 50% through the main story and I've been playing for 30h or so. The survival difficulty option is very immersive, adding a lot to the experience of surviving in a post apocaliptic world riddled with zombies and bandits. The modding community is also starting to get their hands on it, so I can see a somewhat bright future for this title.
Well bad news Days gone 2 isn’t happening for awhile but they’re working on a new ip with the same open world systems and elements from Days gone which got me interested but I’m still sad that we won’t get a sequel for awhile
most likely E3 demo wasn't made with a console. To be fair you can't keep such details at decent frames above 30 or even cinematic 27~30fps with only a AMD Radeon RX590 roughly ps4pro's desktop equivalent and some modified AMD A10.
@Ryan D This is totally different. The way a burger looks has little to do with how it taste. Why are you people taking up for these millionaire companies that don't give a damn about you?
Personally i think the hordes flanking around objects is an improvement because it shows how they improved the AI and didn't rely completely on making them follow the path the player took. I still haven't played the game but as a game developer i think its better this way.
Beautiful comparison video. I loved it. I think most of the E3 demos done to impress the audience rather than giving the real picture and how the game will look like. I didn't buy the game yet and I won't until they fix the bugs and other issues.
I respect your opinion but its kinda sad that people believe the narrative instead of finding out for themselves, i bought it at launch and have only experienced 2 isolated bugs, 1 bug was a dead body reappearing mid-cutscene and the other I cant even remember I think I got stuck in a pocket of space after a crash for a second
people complain about downgrades yet they want the same performance as a system with a GPU that is 2x the price of their entire console I think considering the limits, it looks pretty decent
Both look great, hordes have different pathing in retail probably because Bend buffed their ai. E3 actually looks like evening lighting since everything appears orange, and the retail version appears to take place during midday.
This is the thing. You never take E3 seriously. The reaction and animations are pure trailer. They have no restrictions in terms of how big the game is or how much detail that can be put in. Like dust effects and such. But it's obvious it's a special version of the game that only plays that scenario nothing more.
This exactly. There’s literally nothing outside of the Sawmill if you were to play the E3 demo.

@@sammiches2555 I was gonna say. As someone living in the Oregon the "Dull" grey weather is very common and a part of being in Oregon. So they got that part right I'd say.
I think most of visible differences occured due to the ligthing set up. E3 one was much more radiant.
Yeah nothing to do with them completely changing the game design lmao
Ben O'Neill did you even watch the video? Game design is very similar
The lighting looks similar in the final game at a clear evening. That’s where this is a very misleading comparison.
The color and lighting just looks better in the e3 demo. The final build looks more cartoonish. Still a fun game.
The retail version looks good for a PS4, but the E3 version has a lot more ambient occlusion and volumetric effects.
mynameisralph who tf cares. The games still good and games are always beefed up for E3 presentations. No reason to be so upset about this kinda stuff.

Yup same but those animation are good
See og monster Hunter games , where drinking a potion mid hunt makes you flex (literally) , thus wasting some milliseconds
Exactly. Imagine trying to survive with Red Dead Redemption's drawn out animation style.
Honestly, the completely different weather and time of day make it seem much more severe than it really is.

yeah he coulve at least gone for a sunset but eh too late anyway
They made the hordes smarter. Also, that M4 Carbine is hard to unlock.
That's what I'm saying, but at least I'm having fun
I can actually see why individual combat doesn’t seem as impressive as let’s say The Last of us, and why the game had so may bugs at launch, the focus of the devs went towards the danger of this zombies apocalypse, which isn’t one fast or strong zombie that could murder you, but angry mobs that won’t give up if you started to mow them down with a machine gun
I gotta say, now that i see it, the Horde AI and the way they interact with the environment is pretty impressive
I highly recommend it, there certain flaws that kind of bog it down, but overall it’s a really enjoyable open world survival game
I agree, just beat it
Loved it.
@RobertCop
Not if you go through the game on normal, shooting everything 7 times to the chest

They probably moved it to the "first horde" in order to give that same terrifying impact if it was your first time witnessing it.

Honestly, the fact that the horde is so much more random is both realistic and increases the tension by a huge amount. This means you can’t just continuously run and occasionally turn to shoot and eventually be good; that would honestly make the horde boring.

And the more complex animations would get you killed
Sir Erkel completely true. I mean yeah it would be cool to have animations like like but I don’t want to be chased by a horse and when my guy is freaking out over a dead body
DialgaMarine3 they are smart. Some start running around to come at you sideways
Having played the game myself, the game captured the intense feeling when facing a horde.
I just finished the Horse Lake NERO checkpoint, and yes, I shat my pants.
Try the swamill horde or checkpoint
Great comparison, game stands good even in retail, but e3 footage shows how awesome that could looks if only Days Gone would be more linear game
If they prescript missions to be more linear people complain it to be outdated. Look at RDR2. Most missions are linear and people complain it's outdated.
@@zensoredparagonbytes3985 woah slowdown cowboy. no one ever said RDR2 looks outdated lmao everyone just complained about. how much the game is boring. also RDR is not some kind of stealth game so there's no need to make the missions open world
@@v-trigger6137 I don't think he meant outdated visually, pretty sure he meant linear mission were outdated compared to the more non-linear style.
it's an open world game, so i don't think a linear aspect of it would be very good
Thats, the "Cancer" of todays games, all have to be open world, what makes it more repeatable and less impressive, especially compared to directed e3 shows
colours look better on demo
I agree but it doesn't take from the experience much so i don't really mind
Exactly the final version looks more fade, wash-up overall picture like :(
I think it's on purpose due to the stylistic change such as the climate (now snowy) and the tine of day is different
@@scottchegg7157 time of day is the same. I waited for the sun to line up with landmarks in the demo. But the climate does affect the lighting directly.
E3 lightning >>>reatil ..
I dont understand why removing a " filter " is nessecary?? Look at the first e3 gameplay so nice sun and trees contrast
blnl4 spow my guess is although the filter looks good and all, it might hinder the gameplay as the filter might be too dark causing the player to not see certain things in the game. The e3 version is scripted so its slow and realistic to achieve that cinematic look whilst its not the same case as an average player might want to rush through it abit quicker so they probably thought removing anything like that filter which can hinder the gameplay is a good decision
I wouldn't so much call it a filter it's more detail with the lighting so prob runs too hard on Playstation so they have do that with the bland gray
A filter would be easy, the game has dynamic lighting and weather. Which requires a lot more than just color change
@@aristonaragao3171 Cinematic or not, they should shown us the game as how it looks, without any modification
Or people would think they lied to them. And no one wants to revive the Watch_dogs trauma
I think it might be worth revisiting this, the PC versions lighting seems a little more true to the original vertical slice, though still not bold and rich enough.
Tbh, like in the GOW E3 demo, they both had warmer look to them and i ended up liking the retail more.
The weather in the demo was probably pre-set so it could look more impressive.
The cut animations and all that stuff is because E3 demo is for presentation, the core is still there and the hordes are even smarter.
Only thing that sucks is they got rid of environmental kills...
@@Dumi232 Ubisoft downgrades, none of this looks like a downgrade.
@@Dumi232 remove the filters and color grading of the e3 demo (or put it on the final version) and you can see no difference.
What looks great on video and what is nice to play is quite different.
@@Newera1047 Yeah, some devs even admitted to that.
@@matt4818 It's a downgrade, plain an simple. Lighting/shadows are far less impressive, a great deal of the textures have been downgraded, there's far less environmental objects like, tree's, bushes, grass ect (always a good give away) and some animations have been completely cut.
Do you mean that missing sawblade kill animation by enviromental kills?
Been watching a few of these comparison videos. You're doing God's work my friend. I know how hard and time consuming it is to edit and then you went out your way to recreate a Vertical Slice of a game. I wanna take the time to say I really appreciate these videos man.
E3 should be called false advertisement games. Great video !!
For reals 😂
Let's see how long Bethesda takes to make good on the Elder trailer :\
@First name last name Not when it isn't actual false advertisement. E3 videos ALWAYS have a disclaimer that say a work in progress or something along those lines.
@@matt4818 So in reality... its the viewers who over hype a trailer.
@@gwarscout1825 we'll get star field or whatever its called before Elder6
AAA devs are great at making a game look spectacular-then take whats spectacular out of it conveniently before release.
most likely E3 demo wasn't made with a console. To be fair you can't keep such details at decent frames above 30 or even cinematic 27~30fps with only a AMD Radeon RX590 roughly ps4pro's desktop equivalent and some modified AMD A10.
@@indianultalpaiute7370 Then why advertise a product thats impossible to play at a stable frame rate? false advertisement imo
@@catcheye5297 lmao Damm near every company does this
CatchEye all advertisement is literally inaccurate.
@Doge sure
Thanks *TH-cam Algorithm*, I will definitely be *getting the E3 version*
Nice, you said that exact same comment on the Anthem video..
Really ended up being a gem of a game. Loved it so much.
Beautiful comparison video. I loved it.
I think most of the E3 demos done to impress the audience rather than giving the real picture and how the game will look like. I didn't buy the game yet and I won't until they fix the bugs and other issues.
Mahmood Almarzooqi same, I'm waiting for a sale or until some of the problems are fixed.
I respect your opinion but its kinda sad that people believe the narrative instead of finding out for themselves, i bought it at launch and have only experienced 2 isolated bugs, 1 bug was a dead body reappearing mid-cutscene and the other I cant even remember I think I got stuck in a pocket of space after a crash for a second
people complain about downgrades yet they want the same performance as a system with a GPU that is 2x the price of their entire console
I think considering the limits, it looks pretty decent
“Ability to kill zombies with the environment was removed”
60 seconds earlier
*Kills a bunch of zombies with the environment

E3 Trailer ~ How they wanted the game to be...
Retail ~ How they were able to really do it
I have personally gotten the dust particles in the regular PS4
you should check your console, maybe its a ps5 ya got there
did you try wiping it with a wet towel?
@@SriramMurali87 or bleaching it?
Cody Culp yea I was gonna say that in the ps4 I see dust particles all the time in and out of buildings.
@@SriramMurali87 lol
This is the thing. You never take E3 seriously. The reaction and animations are pure trailer. They have no restrictions in terms of how big the game is or how much detail that can be put in. Like dust effects and such.
But it's obvious it's a special version of the game that only plays that scenario nothing more.
This exactly. There’s literally nothing outside of the Sawmill if you were to play the E3 demo. The whole game map is there on retail and the fact that everything is running in real-time gives a huge load in the system.
Besides, the game looks good as is on my end, and I’m currently addicted to photo mode LOL
This game looks much much better when you have the HDR turned on, and combined with 4K its just beautiful. I remember people being upset over this game not being what people thought. Honestly this game is so much better than I ever thought it would be. I love it! The exploration, the hordes, the bike customization, the crafting, the hunting, the storylines and different kinds of freakers, the amount of detail and foliage density.. honestly this game goes above and beyond many of the current cross gen (PS4 Pro / PS5) games coming out now. This is amoung the Top tier games offered on the PS4 Pro in terms of really impressive graphics and world building along with Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, Red Dead Redemption 2, Nier Automata, Last of Us 2, Jedi Fallen Order, Death Stranding, Marvel's Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales...
THIS is what devotion is!
