I always say this is one of THE best movies ever made, if not the best. I have seen it a million times since it came out and will cry every. single. time. So many jewels and gems. So much deeper than a movie. Damn. Thanks for watching this. Even though it was 1991, the message is the same. New players every generation but they are all playing the same old game.
Among the best things I love about Boyz n The Hood is Doughboy for his character and story development and Ice Cube’s performance in the role.
Cube at the time was among the emerging hip-hopers in the 90s with his debut solo album AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted after leaving NWA.
The guy may not have had attended drama class in school, never did a film, never did a TV show or a stage show but it was the encouragement from John Singleton due to their friendship that convinced Cube to get the part of Doughboy.
John Singleton met Ice Cube when he was a member of backstage crew at the Arsenio Hall Show and even though Cube turned down the offer a couple times, I’m beyond glad he accepted the offer.
For an inexperienced actor in a cinematic debut, Ice Cube did an awesome job playing Doughboy. He played the role as if he (Cube himself) never had a dad, is the subject of ridicule and verbal abuse by his mum who favours a brother of his and ends up as as a Rollin 60s Crip. He did it so damn convincingly that he should’ve got an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe - all three for “Best Supporting Actor” and MTV Movie Award for “Best Breakthrough Performance”.
This was long before Cube did the Friday films (film series he also wrote/produced), Are We There Yet?, xXx 2 and 3, Fist Fight, Ride Along, 21/22 Jump Street, Ghost of Mars, the Barbershop films, Rampart, Tresspass etc
If the Marc Webb-directed and Andrew Garfield-starred Amazing Spider-Man films were to conclude with a 3rd film (a 4 hour 3rd film to end the story) and if Ice Cube appeared in it - he would’ve been J Jonah Jameson (Daily Bugle newspaper boss). Imagine Andrew Garfield and Ice Cube in the same room! Wasted/missed opportunity in my opinion.

The guy who shot Ricky was really killed in prison not long after the movie came out
I heard that they did a satanic ritual on him in prison & it killed him.
He was also in Poetic Justice as well

I’ve seen it so many times, one of my faves!!! But I don’t mind watching it again on here
I just subscribed to your channel. This movie is the quintessential hood classic. This was the first coming of age movie i first saw this in theaters at the age of 10 years old while i was visiting family in Fresno, California. Rewatching this as an adult i realize that Ricky wasn’t street smart due to him being coddled by his mother. He laughed at Trey when Trey told him that he was afraid to have sex, he was scared when Furious took them to Compton & he didn’t take Ferris & his crew serious when they coming for him. Brenda favoritism towards Ricky did more damage to Doughboy than the hood ever did & Brenda lost both of her sons as a result of her favoritism.
Fun Facts: Will Smith was offered the role of Trey but declined due to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Little Ricky was played by Dovonan Mccrary, he’s the younger brother of Darius Mccrary (Eddie Winslow from Family Matters). The girl who called Doughboy a bitch was in Ice Cube’s Today Was A Good Day video.

It's alright. Enjoyed your reaction. One thing tree's father is old school. I agree the tub shouldn't look like that, but your kids need to do choirs and yes all he has to do is work pay bills, roof over your head and food on table. He probably cuts the grass because Trey was too young to cut grass. ☺

Hello love nellz! Great reaction! 3:46 We all be off on the curb sometimes 🤣 IMO, A great black movie from the '90s, which also stars Cuba Gooding, Jr, is the 1996 Rom Com "Jerry Maguire". It might not seem like a black movie to most, but Cuba and Regina King take over the movie for me. I guess you noticed from other reaction channels by pretty young sistas like yourself, you will blow up fast on this app if you react to the 80's Sci-Fi classic movie franchises; The original "Star Wars" trilogy, "Aliens", "Predator", "Terminator" or any of director Steven Spielberg's productions.

Great movie and a powerful message with it this is what black boys need is their fathers and good male role models Doughboy didn't have a father but had a mother who disliked him just because she didn't like the father which is why Doughboy turned out the way he is and him fighting Ricky was jealousy because of his mother loving Ricky more
Yeah she definitely loved Ricky more & she showed it. It’s also because Ricky had more potential (playing football) & was their meal ticket out of the hood. Meanwhile doughboy just stayed in trouble
@@lovenellz Right did have a opportunity to go Pro Football one day which is why she loved him more as Doughboy he didn't have any support from his mom but despite that he chose to down the wrong path it was his choice but I feel sorry for the mother because she lost both her sons
