    I love the performance of my everlast 210ext. When I needed my warranty it wasn’t available because even tho I bought it new, the vender wasnt an approved everlast dealer. I bought it from an annual swap meet. The vender had nothing but everlast equipment. My serial was valid, my carbon copy receipt was faded but you could see the date and price but his name stamp was mostly rubbed away. Wasnt good enough for everlast to warrant repairs but they did help diagnose the boards and sell them plus 2 day air during the upswing of covid. The machine still kicks ass.

    Steve, you don't need "permission" to open something. If you bought it (or they sent it to you for free), you own it. You have every right to take the cover off, or do whatever you want to stuff you own.

      @@tiredoldmechanic1791 The Magnuson Moss Warranty act says otherwise. You can do whatever you want and not void the warranty unless they can prove something you did caused the damage or issue in the first place. People need to stop just bending over and taking it from companies that try to pull that garbage.

      Agreed, the company I use to work for, put stickers on the units saying that it would void the Warranty if you opened the case, it was a lie and they knew it.

    • @melgross
      @melgross 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not that simple. If you modify anything by changing parts or making adjustments that the factory wouldn’t have done, then yes, that can void the warranted. You do not have the ability to do whatever you want without voiding the warrantee. And it’s the voiding the warrantee that’s the problem. If you’re not worried about the warrantee, do whatever you want with it.

    • @melgross
      @melgross 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@brianbutler3954it’s been just a few years that it’s true. Before that, the stickers were valid. But be careful, because the law says that you don’t void the warrantee by removing the sticker, and it’s true. But the law doesn’t address anything involving poking around and possibly causing damage.

    I think i've had my everlast for almost 10 years, it is my go welder, i've had to do jobs on 100' extension cords, generators, i've done open root stick, and lift arc tig with it, the thing has never given me an ounce of trouble. my millers are older, i ran into a weld shop tech at a parts store and we were talking, he said to avoid any of the dual voltage machines and to keep my old ones, so i bought the everlast. I'm sure the millers are better now and my new dynasty at work is great(but not portable)

    I bought a 200A MIG welder from Everlast 5 years ago or so. It didn't feed as fast as claimed on the website and in the manual. Their tech support basically told me I was wrong and it didn't matter, I could just use bigger wire. Well sure, but I was trying to spray with it, which it was advertised as being capable of. Long story short after going back and forth with them I didn't get anything. It was a very similar experience that you had with that Miller guy. I'll never buy from Everlast again, and Miller is way overpriced these days. On the other hand my experience with AHP has been amazing. I just recently bought two more machines (MIG and TIG/Multi-process) from AHP, they are great.
    IMO you definitely got preferential treatment because of your big soap box. :) But you're a good dude. Pulling that video was the right call.

    I've always said that what matters more is how a company responds to correct issues that arise with their products. Stuff happens that is beyond the control of the supplier but it makes a difference in how they go about fixing it for the consumer. My buddy has a couple Everlast he uses commercially building stainless bow railings for boats with no issues. I might of told you that when I told my story with this damn Lincoln Square wave 200 I had all these problems with from day one. I cannot stand how much argon I go through because you can’t set the post flow and when I’m doing something that requires a lot of tacks the damn thing just runs and runs! I didn’t get the Everlast because I applied for the credit with them over the phone and got turned down because of something I found out later that wasnt even my fault. Well after that the guy treated me like I was some kind of loser because I was turned down. Now acting like I was a bother to him because I had a few questions about it. Well that really annoyed the hell out of me so I had to go to the local supply house and buy the Lincoln. I did it that day because I had the damn cash right in my pocket. Nobody close to me had the Everlast. Well more bad news that new Great Dane puppy I left the deposit on in Delaware (5 hours from me) has a heart murmur. He got checked by 3 veterinarians. This is why it’s good to pick a reputable breeder. So that sucked! But anyway I waited for her following litter and my daughter and I are going early tomorrow morning to get him. Super excited! But all the let downs. I swear I have this dark cloud over my head that just won’t go away! Looking forward to seeing the progress of that Bridgeport. I have to get some straight edges so I can do mine

    I might have told Everlast to send another welder charged to my credit card to get the packaging to send the original back then they could refund that when they got the pick up notice for the one being returned. I had to return a laptop once and they had me drop it off at the FedEx store and FedEx packed and shipped it.

    I had Millers & frankly I'm not that good of a self-taught welder. My wife saw me struggling & bought me a Fronius TIG. No one will ever convince me that there is a better welder than that. It does things (@220 amps max) that my Miller 250 couldn't do. After not welding for months, I can power it up & weld perfectly with the penetration & bead width that I want & never fear any wonky welds. The greatest thing since sliced bread.

    For quite some time, Everlast has had a bad reputation in so far as service is concerned. The idea that you should open the machine and do your own testing is something that isn’t normal. I would never advise most people to do that. A lot of extremely unqualified people somehow think they’re qualified to do this. I’m always amazed by that. I’ve designed and worked on industrial electronics and machinery and I won’t open up something if I don’t have a schematic and hopefully, a factory repair and adjustment manual, if it’s under warrantee. It’s totally the manufacturers responsibility to insure that you have a properly working product and if you don’t, then it’s also totally their responsibility to get you one as fast as possible, overnight if necessary.

    It's tough to be in business theses days. If people have a good experience, they tell a few people. If they have a bad experience, they can tell everybody. In this case, if they had just sent the replacement, they might have been taking the risk of losing one welder but the way they handled it probably cost them a lot more than that.

    The Neverlast thing comes from the Walmart Everlast battery line. Walmart shopped for the cheapest batteries that they could get and years back, there were many failed Everlast batteries that would go bad in a few weeks or months prompting mechanics to call them Neverlast. When I first saw the Everlast name, I started to wonder if the welder came from Walmart.

    • @gorak9000
      @gorak9000 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All car batteries are made by 2 companies, it doesn't matter what sticker is on the case, or what color the plastic is. If you get the top tier walmart battery (I think they have 3 tiers) it's no different than the top tier battery with any other stickers or colored plastic on it. Sure, if you get the bottom of the rung, it's going to be crap, again no matter what stickers or color of the plastic.

    • @tiredoldmechanic1791
      @tiredoldmechanic1791 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gorak9000 Most car batteries are made by 3 different companies in the US, Johnson Controls is the largest, Exide which was purchased by Stryten and East Penn. They build batteries to a price point and put them in cases for the various brand names. They can build batteries with smaller lead plates and put them in a larger case which is why batteries in the same group size can have different ratings. There are also different ways to configure the cells which may be cheaper but less durable. Buying the most expensive battery doesn't always mean you are getting the best. They can sell cheaply made batteries at high prices but they can't sell high quality batteries at cheap prices. The number of years of warranty can be a good indication of quality but you still need to read the warranty to see how much you will have to pay to replace it.

    It would be great to get both yourself and Don on camera, comparing the machines from a user's and an engineer's viewpoint. Those viewers without experience, who will be 1st time buyers, could learn a lot by witnessing the two of you going over the machines, point by point. It also seems one of the best ways to treat both companies fairly. You are more than "just a consumer" at this point, since all of this is public. "Fair shakes" are all too rare these days and advertising hype too often glosses over the true realities of equipment. Yeah, it's a big job, but you're just the team to get it done right! In the end, I suspect you'd find all 3 machines to be of good quality, yet best suited for slightly differing applications. Newbies can use exactly that information.

    In my mind the Everlast has three strikes, 1) DOA with no seen shipping damage, 2) The hassles you had with customer service, and 3) a manual that's insufficient in my mind, especially compared to the Prime manual ,therefore I would not consider buying one. The owner of Everlast is responsible for any reduction in sales because of your video's not you, it is his responsibility to insure his product will meet the customers expectations.
    You have so many projects going on do you really want to do a welding review, send both the Everlasts back and get your money back, and the prime too if it's too big for your needs, although I would be interested on seeing how well the Prime works. If the Miller on you trailer is good, just get 220V-110V stepdown transformer and call it good.

    I've been following this welder saga. There didn't seem to be any damage to the packaging so the handling in shipping couldn't have been terribly rough. If the unit was tested at the factory, it should have worked when it arrived. Using a welder around the shop or hauling it on a trailer is probably going to shake it up more than shipping it to you did. Before the internet it was easy for companies to tell you that you are the only one having a problem. I've gotten that reply way too often. I just thought I had bad luck and if they had one in a million bad items I got them. With the internet, it has become easy to check to see if others have the same problem.

    • @brianbutler3954
      @brianbutler3954 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The question is was there full function QC testing at the end of the line or were the individual components just tested separately before the case was assembled ? Judging from what seems to be a primitive manual I am thinking that there are severe cost pressures on this unit and some shortcuts may have been taken.
