    I was excersizing almost daily, had good sleep and a healthy diet and most of the other usual suspects. I still had anxiety attacks which impacted my life and ability to work. I went onto SSRIs and since January did not have a single attack and is now able to perform and live a normal life. I tried many different things before going on the antidepressants, sadly nothing worked. Really happy to be on them. Also, love these videos, especially the surprise ending 😅

      I find it hard to believe people who comment like this on the internet because it's just too unicorn. The truth is, there's a reason we call it a "healthy lifestyle". Most people who have depression have unhealthy habits (as most of us do). Also, it's never good to believe drugs are the end all be all, even if they help and are good, because they rarely solve the root problem. They are a tool, not a solution.

    It's always weird to me hearing people who don't have clinical depression talk about it just because of the contrast difference. I've been on various SSRIs for the better part of a decade and I wish it was as simple as "just go be happy and make some friends" to cure clinical depression. However, it is good to hear from so many of the people in this video be friendly towards the stigma shift because it used to be, "You're broken if you need them" and people have more shifted to, "Sometimes it is needed, and some people have issues where it's helpful." I try to be really open about it and talk about it with people because I don't think it's something that people shouldn't be afraid to seek help for. There's a huge amount of stuff to help, and there's no silver bullet. Depression sucks, take it day by day, seek help, and don't be afraid to.

      @koihoshi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@youdontexist. I do. Things are better these days as I've made adjustments to help reduce stress and things that seem to put me down the deep end of a depression swing. I'm still on an SSRI, but things are much more manageable these days. I've learned to just take it a day at a time.

    • @koihoshi
      @koihoshi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@youdontexist. Sure no worries, I don't mind talking about it. Like I said, I think it's important to do so in case others are dealing with it as well. Like I said there's no silver bullet. I saw a psychologist that helped me identify some of the things that would get me into a bit of a depression spiral. I have general anxiety disorder coupled with clinical depression. They tend to sort of feed each other in negative ways. Things that cause anxiety may cause stress, and the stress can trigger feelings of depression and overwhelming swings and before I know it, I end up not wanting to do anything, go out, socialize, to the point that getting out of bed just feels like I'm tied down with weights and doing anything is a struggle. Identifying the things that cause the most anxiety, and learning to identify it when it comes up, and working through those things with solutions such as disputation questions help me calm down before it's an issue.
      The SSRI definitely helps the crazy depression I get. And I tried 3 different SSRI medications before I found one that didn't give me wild side effects and is good now. But also making routines that help me trigger myself back into a reward system that puts me in a better state of mind. Sometimes that's just starting the day doing something simple and small that I enjoy, even if it doesn't sound good, even if it feels like an exhausting thing to do. Slowly the more I do it, the easier it gets, and eventually can get myself back into a decent mood. I might start the morning with cleaning up my office space a bit, playing a video game during my lunch hour or going for a drive to clear my head. I also changed my career path as well, though it took me years to do, getting away from a toxic work environment that had caused me a lot of trauma and stress was like a weight off my shoulders.
      I've also very seriously, heavily, restricted my time on social media platforms and trimmed the weeds on my feed, so to speak. I allow myself to check in on a few fb groups once a day, stopped subscribing to channels that went down the rabbithole of doom and gloom, and removed people that were really negative in my life. I have also had to do so in real life as well. I also only read news to stay informed, and even check a few websites I found that only offer uplifting and positive news as a bit of eyebleach to remind myself that there's also good in the world.
      Like I said, it wasn't any one specific thing, but working through a process of identifying the things that were making it much worse, learning to cope with, identify, and work through things as I see them crop up, and then being as preventative as I can. I still have my days. But things are definitely far better, looking back at years past, and helped me realize that depression wasn't a hopeless void I could not escape from. But it all started with asking for help, seeking it, and working through it day by day.

    • @youdontexist.
      @youdontexist. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@koihoshi do you think you overthink stuff? Often all this negativity is caused by spending too much time thinking about stuff that doesnt exist yet or at all. We constantly create life stories and situations in our heads. By creating these we create problems. Those problems are processed by our subconsciouss which has to solve them. Abandoning social media is big help since you dont have to solve fake problems in your subconsciouss now.
      Have you tried meditation? Or any other mental exercise? Simply something that keeps you in present? Focusing on work is also the way. The thing is what happens after work.
      Have you tried changing your diet? People still underestimate the effect of food on mental health.
      Do you wanna talk about it? I dont want to sound too smart. But I may give you some hints to survive this existence.

    I liked Cicelia's input.
    I was depressed for a long time without knowing it, I had lost interest in taking care of myself, I had a very successful business which I ignored and let fall away to nothing. My depression also caused me to be quite caustic to others, like I tried to lift myself by tearing others down.
    It was friendships that eventually pulled me out of it. I went to a friends wedding and met many people who I hadn't met in years, and they all respected me and liked me, as they didn't know the depressed me.
    Then I met a girl who really liked me.
    Having people around you who like you is so important. When depressed people tend to isolate themselves which just compounds things.

    I feel like medication shouldn't be your first choice. If you really cannot function, then take it. Also it's worth trying to see how it affects you and make decisions based on that. I am personally a bit biased because I used a stoic approach throughout my life, but I also used some ~natural~ tools that helped me get better. I can also tell you that many of my acquantances who are on medication are still visibly depressed. Would it be worse without medication? Probably. But I think that depression is 30% brain chemistry and 70% your lifestyle and past traumas. Taking medication is easy, turning your life around is hard, but neccesary. If medication can help you do than there's go for it.

    Been on antidepressants for a year now and they have really changed the quality of life I live. I still have my rough days but suicide isn’t “the answer” like it used to be when I was severely depressed. If you think they might help you or somebody I would recommend trying them out at least

    No, not everyone knows what they're "supposed to do". For example, I was a very healthy, happy, well-adjusted teenager and then when I moved to university in the city I started having panic attacks and developed anxiety. I'd changed nothing about my lifestyle apart from where I lived and show I lived with. I'd never worked out at a gym in my life and I only played sport in winter (football). So as far as I knew I was doing what I was "supposed to do". Yes, the doctor put me on Effexor as a first resort which is wrong by today's standards. But it did help initially.

    Im happy for people who beat depression with diet and exercise. I just hope you all understand this isnt possible for everyone, they may have it severely worse than you. For some, even wanting to attempt to take care of themselves requires medication.

      JFC, THANK YOU. I was trying to decide what to comment in response to the sentiment being circulated in this comment section without showing how aggravated it was making me. Some people think that being sad from being socially isolated or because of a loss is all depression is about. There's such a thing as chronic depression, and some people are so far down that medication is imperative for them to get to a point where they can better themselves. I'm one of those people.
      I DO think that exercise and proper diet are necessary to feel your best, but as you said, some people are so crippled by depression that they can't even get out of bed. Those people aren't just being lazy, they don't just need to go for a walk, and they don't need religion to get better. They need medication and therapy. People are so quick to believe they know exactly what someone is going through and how to fix it. I'm not trying to be the depression gatekeeper, but there is a huge difference between being sad and being so consumed by depression that all you can think of doing is ending your own life. It's honestly insulting to imply that all those people needed was a good diet and some exercise.
      I was skeptical of medication for a long, long time. I tried 4 different classes of antidepressants before I received what I believe to be the proper diagnosis and found medication that actually works for me. It's been a long, tiring road full of people that believed they understood how I felt, and that I could change it if I wanted to. On the off chance that someone in need is reading this comment, I want you to know-
      It might seem like you're just not meant to be here or be happy. You might wholeheartedly believe that there's no fixing you, and everything around you might be validating all of your deepest fears and insecurities. It can be a very daunting and discouraging process to find what works for you, but you have to push those thoughts away as much as you can and reach out. Keep reaching out and being as honest as possible until all of your options are literally exhausted. I promise you, you will find something that works before that happens. I believed for 20 years that I was a lost cause, and just when I was planning out my last resort, my current medications took hold and I was able to finally feel some relief. I'm not ecstatic all the time, I don't think I'm capable of anything and everything like I did when I was young. It's not like everything is just magically better, now that I've found what works. But I don't feel totally worthless anymore. I don't focus solely on everything I've done wrong or everything I'm not. You can and will get there, just please don't give up. No one deserves to die in misery by their own hand, and no one's loved ones deserve to have to carry that burden either. Ignore people like the ones in this video that ignorantly try to invalidate your illness. There IS hope for you, but you may never find it if you don't take the steps to get help.
      Sorry for the rant, I just felt like the mindset in your comment isn't represented very well in this comment section. I don't want anyone that's suffering to see the title of this video, only to come here and see everyone completely invalidating their struggle.

    idk how i feel about antidepressants as an addict,. ssris take like 3-6 weeks to work if im not mistaken. a week or two in i just say fuck it and spiral right back into using. I also feel like ssris dont work after a decade of heavy use. im depressed, so i started using.....now im more depressed and cant stop using, and in order for ssris to work you need to be clean. in my opinion. fm
