  • Here's the video to learn everything about overshot weaving! This is actually the first video of a 3-part series in which I will be talking about overshot. This first video is all about the technique. I also give out some tips that help me with weaving overshot. The second and the third videos of the series will be about the actual weaving of two different scarves.

    THE YARN
The warp and the tabby yarn are 8/2 cotton in the color "natural" from Maurice Brassard. Here's where you can get the same yarn: woolery.com/maurice-brassard-...
For the pattern yarn, I used 8/4 cotton from Hobbii's Rainbow collection. I used 6 different colors:
    -Plum (080)
    -Navy Blue (030)
    -Jeans Blue (029)
    -Light Jeans Blue (028)
    -Deep Jungle Green (100)
Here's where you can get the same yarn: bit.ly/hobbiicotton
    THE BOOK
For the pattern of the project, I followed a draft provided in Anne Dixon Book: The Handweaver’s Pattern Directory. This draft can be found at page 105 and it's called "Small Honey Suckle". Here’s where you can get this wonderful book: woolery.com/handweavers-patte...
    THE LOOM
During the video, you can see my Leclerc Mecco table loom that had been converted into a floor loom. This loom has 4 shafts and the add-on treadles has 6 treadles. Here's a video where I give a tour of this loom: • Showing Every Details ...

Thank you for this video, I do not have pedals so I write mine differently on the page itself which shafts need to be used. I have so far practiced a lot of the different heddles set ups, but I had not tried overshot yet, mind you I only got my table loom Jan 24th 2024, so still learning. The overshot ones seemed complicated with weft and tabby in the draft, you made this seem so easy to achieve (by showing in the book how to read those 6 threddles which I did not understand before why the 1st 2 columns were not a part of the pattern, now I know they are tabby weave in between the pattern, so my next project with the yarns I got today will be overshot. I make myself samples by writing which pattern on which page I used and label them in my note pad as # 1 #2 or #3 on the page, so I see there are a few on 4 pages I can practice with the same heddles warped. I use different colors also with the patterns and write in note pad, this way I can choose which ones I liked. Your videos are always awesome, I will look for the others in this series over this weekend. I will use 16/2 as warp and tabby and 8/2 as pattern, I have tried this combo myself in my practices and it turns out great, love the textures.

Last week I looked at Overshot as a project idea but felt a little intimidated so I dressed the loom for twill with straight draw instead. Now I’m inspired after seeing the Overshot steps in detail. Looking forward to additional episodes, thank you.

I never quite understood the numbering system for the treadling and missing tabby notation in this book. Thank you.

I've always wanted to do Overshot since getting my four shaft table loom, but found it to be super intimidating, and couldn't figure out how it could be done on less than a six shaft loom, but after watching you do this, I think I have it (kinda) sorted in my head, and I want to just jump in and get started!
Thinking about treadling, though - although your (and others' whose videos I've watched) treadling plans of having the tabbies on the outside makes perfect logical sense generally, I think having them on treadles 1 & 2 (or 5 & 6) makes more sense for Overshot, where you're throwing multiple picks of the same pattern thread, because surely you're having to swap feet on your pattern treadle to hit the tabby ones? It makes sense, here to use your left (or right) foot only for tabby and the other for pattern. So instead of, for example, going (with your treadling plan) R1, L5, L6, R5, R1, L5, L6, R5, you would do (with the supplied plan) R1, L6, R2, L6, R1, L6, R2, L6. Much less lifting and moving of the feet. I hope that makes sense?

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

It totally makes sense too! I know that many people prefer to do it this way for the ease of treadling 😊 I think that there is no such thing as a "best" method. We should simply do what makes the more sense to us 😄 If you prefer it this way, go ahead! And you could always try both ways and see what you like more
